Anze Kopitar sees pros and cons to the possibility of halting his contract negotiations during the regular season.
"We'll see what happens.…That's still a long ways away," Kopitar said. "My mind is in hockey right now. Would it be perfect, or ideal, to get it done now and not have to think about it? Yes. But if it's not, it's just not." He has one season left on his existing seven-year, $47.6 million contract. He's the Kings' top forward and played an important role in their two Stanley Cup championships, so it would be surprising if Los Angeles doesn't find a way to re-sign him. Oct 7 - 9:20 AM

Anze Kopitar’s agent and the Kings continue to talk about a contract extension for Los Angeles' first-line center, according to ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun.

Kopitar wants the deal to be done before the regular season starts Oct. 7. LeBrun doesn’t think "anything is close yet on an extension, but the dialogue remains healthy and positive." Kopitar is making $7.7 million in the final year of a seven-year, $47.6 million contract. He had 16 goals and 64 points last season.

Anze Kopitar doesn't seem too concerned about his contract status.

Kopitar is entering the final season of his seven-year, $47.6 million deal. "You don't think about it too much," Kopitar said. "I've said it all along, it would be nice if it was done before the season. But if it's not, it's really not that big a deal. There's plenty of time left in that regard, too. So we'll see what happens." He's been a critical part of the Kings' offense for years and the impact of him leaving would be substantial. With that in mind, it would be surprising if the Kings don't re-sign him in the end.
Sep 19 - 10:03 AM

Anze Kopitar remains optimistic that he'll sign an extension with the Los Angeles Kings.

"We're maybe not as close as we wanted to be at this point, but I'm also not worried," Kopitar said. "I've said it all along: If it happens before the actual season starts, it would be really nice. But if it doesn't, no alarms will go off. There's still plenty of time." Kopitar has one season left on his contract and he can test the open market next summer, but he would like to stay with the Kings.

Kings GM Dean Lombardi doesn't feel that Los Angeles and Anze Kopitar are even in the same ballpark when it comes to Kopitar's contract negotiations.

Kopitar is entering the final campaign of his seven-year, $47.6 million contract. He means a lot to the Kings' franchise so it would be surprising if he doesn't eventually agree to terms. At the same time, based on what Lombardi said we have to wonder if Kopitar will head into training camp without a new deal. He has 218 goals and 610 points in 683 career games with Los Angeles.

With all of the Kings' restricted free agents re-signed, they're expected to shift their focus to negotiating a contract extension with Anze Kopitar.

Kopitar has one season left on his seven-year, $47.6 million contract. He's been one of the most consistent players in the league, recording over 60 points in every season since his debut in 2006-07, with the exception of the lockout shortened 2013 campaign. He's also received two Selke Trophy nominations, which highlights the high-end two-way aspect of his game.

Jul 6 - 11:00 AM

The Los Angeles Kings haven't started to discussion a contract extension with Anze Kopitar yet.

Kopitar still has a year left on his contract, so there's no urgency to get something done, but both sides will probably want to avoid letting the situation drag into the 2015-16 campaign if it can be helped. Anze Kopitar has been selected as a finalist for the Selke Trophy.

Kopitar has also been nominated for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. He had a good season from an analytics perspective, but he also had a minus-two rating. His faceoff percentage of 52.6 is good, but pales in comparison to what fellow nominees Patrice Bergeron and Jonathan Toews accomplished on the draw. Kopitar had a great season defensively, but he probably won't win the Selke.
