Anze Kopitar took home the Frank J. Selke Trophy at the NHL Awards on Wednesday night.
The award is "given to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game". Kopitar has been one of the premiere two-way forwards in the league for a number of years. The 30-year-old had 35 goals and 92 points in 82 games during the regular season. This is the second time he wins the award in the last three years. He beat out Philadelphia's Sean Couturier and Boston's Patrice Bergeron. Jun 20 - 9:11 PM

Anze Kopitar has been nominated for the Hart Trophy.

Kopitar is also a finalist for the Selke Trophy. The Kings forward had a remarkable bounce-back season, as he went from 52-point season last year to a 92-point campaign in 2017-18. He probably won't win the award, but that still doesn't diminish everything he accomplished. New Jersey's Taylor Hall and Colorado's Nathan MacKinnon are the other two nominees.

Anze Kopitar has been chosen as one of the nominees for the Selke Trophy.

The 30-year-old had a terrific season, as he posted 35 goals and 92 points in 82 games with the Kings. He's also been one of the better two-way players in the game for quite some time, so it's not surprising to see him receive a nomination for this award. Boston's Patrice Bergeron and Philadelphia's Sean Couturier are the other two nominees. Kopitar is likely the favorite to win the award in 2018.

Anze Kopitar wasn't able to save the Kings in their 1-0 loss to Vegas in Game 4.

With that, the Kings have been eliminated from the playoffs. Kopitar had two shots and a minus-one rating in the deciding game of the series. He had a goal and an assist in the four-game series, which is certainly less than what you would hope for out of Kopitar, but he was far from the coldest forward for the Kings. Los Angeles managed just three goals over the four games.
Apr 18 - 4:53 AM

Anze Kopitar scored a goal and picked up an assist in Sunday's Game 3 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Kopitar picked up an assist on Alex Iafallo's opening goal and followed that up by redirecting Oscar Fantenberg's shot to get the Kings to within one goal with just over two minutes left in regulation. It's a tough loss for the Kings who had the 1-0 lead into the third period and now find themselves down 3-0 in the series heading into Game 4 on Tuesday night.
Apr 16 - 1:25 AM

Anze Kopitar took some positives from the Kings' 1-0 loss to Vegas in Game 1.

"Yeah, I mean, obviously, a 1-0 game is maybe a little tougher to swallow than anything else," Kopitar said. "But I thought we played a solid game. Definitely had chances. I mean, I had two really good myself. And we’ve just gotta cash in on them. So we know we can play better and we’re going to have to play better in Game 2 if we want to go home with a split." Certainly the game was extremely close and the Kings did manage to get 30 shots on goal, so they did make Marc-Andre Fleury work for his shutout. Game 2 of the series will be on Friday.
Apr 12 - 8:28 AM

Anze Kopitar hopes to carry his regular season success into the playoffs.

Kopitar is coming off the best campaign of his career with 35 goals and 92 points in 82 games. Now of course, he'll be reset back to zero as far as the postseason goes. "Just do more of the same that I was doing during the regular season, really," Kopitar said. "Just play my game. I’ve been here before, I’ve had some decent success in the playoffs, too. But, right now it’s about winning games. It doesn’t matter how you do it, it’s a matter of winning, and that’s what’s so good about this time of the year. I don’t think as much focus is on individuals’ numbers and skill and everything. It usually comes down to the team game, and that’s what we feel very strongly about, and that’s always been our M.O." He certainly has enjoyed plenty of playoff success in the past. He's scored 20 goals and 64 points in 75 postseason games.
Apr 11 - 4:58 AM

Anze Kopitar recorded an assist in the Kings' 5-4 overtime win against Minnesota on Thursday.

Kopitar's point streak has reached five games as a result. That gives him 35 goals and 92 points in 81 games this season. He's in seventh place in the NHL's scoring race.
Apr 6 - 5:30 AM

Anze Kopitar is on a four-game point streak.

Kopitar kept that run going with an assist on Monday. He's up to 35 goals and 91 points in 80 contests in 2017-18. This is by far the best season of his career as his previous personal-best was 81 points back in 2009-10. He currently ranks sixth in the NHL scoring race.
Apr 3 - 9:01 AM

With his assist Friday night, Anze Kopitar now has 90 points.

Kopitar is the first Kings player to amass at least 90 points in a season since the great Wayne Gretzky, who registered 130 points, accomplished the feat in the 1993-94 campaign. Needless to say, Kopitar is having a huge rebound season.
Mar 31 - 1:14 PM

Anze Kopitar set a new career-high in goals.

Kopitar netted his 35th marker in Thursday's 4-2 win over Arizona. That's the most he's ever scored in a single season, surpassing his 34 goals from 2009-2010. He also has 89 points in 78 games, which is well ahead of his previous career-high of 81 points, also set in 2009-2010. Needless to say, this has been the best we've seen Kopitar and that's particularly impressive after he endured a down season by his standards in 2016-17 with 52 points in 76 games.
Mar 30 - 10:16 AM

Anze Kopitar's four-goal game was the first such performance for the Kings since 1993.

Luc Robitaille was the previous King to have a four-goal game back on Nov. 25, 1993. Thursday's four-goal game was also Kopitar's fourth career hat trick and his first since Feb. 12, 2016. It put a nice highlight on what's been an amazing season for him as he's up to 33 goals and 86 points in 75 games.
Mar 23 - 11:11 AM

Anze Kopitar scored four goals on seven shots in a 7-1 rout of the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night.

Kopitar scored four goals in a game for the first time in his career and allowed him to continue his recent stellar play, which has seen him pick up 22 points in his last 14 games. On top of that, Kopitar is now one goal away from matching a career-high in goals for a season (34 during the 2009-10 season). Kopitar now has 33 goals and 86 points in 75 games this season.
Mar 23 - 12:25 AM

Anze Kopitar drew an assist on Tuesday and set a career high in points with 82.

A lot of pundits thought that the great days of Kopitar were over last season after the Slovenian had only 12 goals and 52 points. But the center came back in full force this season and has 29 goals as part of his 82 points. He is a must-start in all formats of fantasy hockey.
Mar 21 - 8:26 AM

Kings coach John Stevens feels Anze Kopitar deserves Hart Trophy consideration.

"I think his performance has been outstanding," Stevens said. "I think he’s a key guy in every situation you can imagine in a hockey game. He provides leadership for our team. He produces offensively. He’s a premier penalty killer in the league, a faceoff guy, a power guy, a skill guy. I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be in that conversation." With 29 goals and 80 points in 72 contests, this has been one of Kopitar's top seasons offensively. There's some serious competition though, including Nikita Kucherov, Evgeni Malkin, and Nathan MacKinnon to name a few.
