Martin Hanzal got a five-minute major for interference on Thursday night.
Hanzal injured Nashville defenseman Yannick Weber on the play and the hit may be looked at for supplemental discipline. Coach Ken Hitchcock doesn't think Hanzal will be suspended, though. "I thought it was a good hit," Hitchcock said. Oct 13 - 10:37 AM

Martin Hanzal (lower body) is expected to play Tuesday.

Hanzal was banged up on Saturday, but he should play against Detroit. He has no points and three shots in two games this year.
Oct 9 - 2:04 PM

Martin Hanzal sustained a lower-body injury on Saturday.

Hanzal missed the start of training camp due to an ankle injury, but this might be an entirely new issue. He'll be re-evaluated on Sunday, so perhaps the Stars will share more details at that time. Hanzal had 20 goals and 39 points in 71 games with Arizona and Minnesota last season.
Oct 8 - 6:01 AM

Martin Hanzal (ankle) believes he'll be ready for the Stars' season opener.

As previously reported, Hanzal practiced on Saturday for the first time during the Stars' 2017 training camp. "It's better," Hanzal said of his ankle. "I'll see how it is the next day and how it will react. I would like to play in a couple of preseason games or at least one, so I can get up to game speed again." Stars coach Ken Hitchcock would like to see Hanzal play in the final preseason game with anything earlier than that being considered a bonus.
Sep 24 - 4:32 AM

Martin Hanzal. who has missed all of training camp so far due to an ankle injury, will practice with his Dallas teammates on Saturday.

This is good news for Hanzal owners. Stars' coach Ken Hitchcock also indicated that Hanzal should get into at least one pre-season game. Hanzal is slated to center Dallas' third line and will only be a fantasy asset if he is the team's net pressence on one of its power-play units.
Sep 23 - 12:25 PM

Martin Hanzal (ankle) is projected to sit out at least the first four days of training camp.

The Stars want to be cautious with the big center, but it doesn't sound like a serious issue. "We just made the decision to get this 100 percent," coach Ken Hitchcock said. "He plays so many heavy minutes that we need him as close to 100 percent as possible. It's only four or five days. This buys us time to be 100 percent, so let's go for it."
Sep 15 - 5:21 PM

Martin Hanzal will miss the beginning of training camp because of an ankle injury.

Well, that didn't take long. Hanzal's issues with injuries have been well-documented. However, it's unclear right now how long this one will keep him sidelined. He was hurt while working out with players in Texas prior to camp.
Sep 14 - 4:32 PM

Martin Hanzal and Radek Faksa could begin the season on the same line.

Stars head coach Ken Hitchcock says Hanzal is definitely a center, and he feels like he and Faksa would have good chemistry together. Both forwards are strong two-way players that are fully capable of being effective in their own end, which Hitchcock always appreciates. Neither player will be an asset in standard fantasy leagues, but they'll be relied upon to play important minutes for Dallas.
Sep 3 - 12:33 PM

After a conversation with Dallas head coach Ken Hitchcock, Martin Hanzal knows exactly what will be expected from him in Dallas this season.

He will be the team's shutdown center and play heavy five-on-five minutes. Hanzal will also be a key figure on the penalty kill and will provide a net-front presence on the power play. Hanzal looks like a 35-40 point play in 2017-18 given he will likely miss between 10-15 games due to injury.
Jul 2 - 11:36 AM

Martin Hanzal has signed a three-year, $14.25 million deal with the Dallas Stars.

In real hockey this is a perfect spot for Hanzal as he will almost certainly become the Stars’ third-line center behind Tyler Seguin and Jason Spezza. However his fantasy value will take a hit as he will likely not be paired with top-six wingers as he had been in Arizona, and to a lesser extent, in Minnesota. That said, Hanzal will still likely see second-team power-play ice time. Just don’t expect much more than 40 points from the imposing two-way pivot.
Jul 1 - 12:44 PM

The Dallas Stars have reportedly been linked to pending free agent Martin Hanzal.

Hanzal split his time between Arizona and Minnesota in 2016-17. The 6-foot-6 center had 20 goals and 19 assists in 71 games last season. Bringing him into the fold would give Dallas some solid depth down the middle, as they already have Jason Spezza and Tyler Seguin on their roster. No free-agent deals will be made official until noon ET.
Jul 1 - 8:06 AM

Martin Hanzal enjoyed his time with the Minnesota Wild, but he isn't sure if he will be back with the team next year.

"I was really happy here so if there's a chance for me to stay here, I would love to," said Hanzal. "But that would have to be both sides agreeing on that. I enjoyed it. I loved it here. ... I've never been a free agent. It’s going to be a new experience. I have no idea right now to be honest which teams or whatever. I have to wait for the offers and see what happens." He would like a long-term deal, but the Wild have to sign RFAs Mikael Granlund and Nino Niederreiter, while giving players like Joel Eriksson Ek and Luke Kunin looks at NHL spots. It may not be the right fit for the team to bring back Hanzal, but that determination has not been made yet.
Apr 27 - 10:34 AM

Martin Hanzal found the back of the net in Wednesday's 2-0 win over St. Louis in Game 4.

He gave the Wild a 2-0 lead late in the second period. It was Hanzal's first point of the series and his first playoff goal since May 7, 2012. He qualified for the postseason just three times with the Coyotes.
Apr 20 - 11:51 AM

Martin Hanzal scored his 20th goal Saturday night against his former club, the Coyotes.

It is the first time that the veteran two-way pivot has scored 20 in a season and he was pretty happy about it. "It's nice. I've never scored 20 goals" said Hanzal. "I'm glad I reached that. Now it's playoff time. All the stats go away and we have to prepare for Wednesday because that's when the real season starts." Hanzal is a decent fantasy asset but a very good NHL player.
