Hanzal will miss his third straight game Saturday with a lower-body injury. Hitchcock also mentioned that Hanzal skated hard for a solid 45 minutes today, which is a positive sign. The Stars play again on Monday and then Friday, with the latter being the absolute latest we'll see Hanzal back in the lineup. With only one point in 11 games, he could stay on the wire when he returns.

As previously reported, Hanzal practiced on Saturday for the first time during the Stars' 2017 training camp. "It's better," Hanzal said of his ankle. "I'll see how it is the next day and how it will react. I would like to play in a couple of preseason games or at least one, so I can get up to game speed again." Stars coach Ken Hitchcock would like to see Hanzal play in the final preseason game with anything earlier than that being considered a bonus.

"He plays so many heavy minutes that we need him as close to 100 percent as possible. It's only four or five days. This buys us time to be 100 percent, so let's go for it."
