Jimmy Howard (MCL sprain) has been moved to the long-term injury reserve list.
Howard last played on Dec. 20. He posted a 1.96 GAA and .934 save percentage in 17 games, so you can't help but wonder what this season might have been like for him if it wasn't plagued by injuries. It might have been different for the Red Wings too as they've endured goaltending issues that are threatening to keep them out of the playoffs. Jan 19 - 2:49 PM

Jimmy Howard has been diagnosed with a MCL sprain that will sidelined him for four-to-six weeks.

Howard also missed time earlier this season due to a groin injury. These setbacks have been particularly unfortunate because they've interrupted what had the potential to be a comeback season for Howard. He's posted a 1.96 GAA and .934 save percentage in 17 contests in 2016-17.

Jimmy Howard has been placed on injured reserve by Detroit.

GM Ken Holland said that Howard will be "out for a while" but an exact timetable is unclear at this time. The team will wait a few days to see where he is at and he will probably undergo more tests. Howard suffered a lower-body injury on Tuesday night against Tampa Bay.

Jimmy Howard isn't expected to return before the holiday break, so Detroit will bring up Jared Coreau for Friday's game at Florida.

He couldn't put any weight on his right leg and had to be helped off the ice. A timetable for his return isn't known yet, but the Red Wings should have one after Howard is re-evaluated.

Jimmy Howard exited Tuesday's game against the Lightning with a lower-body injury.

Man, it's a rough night for the goalies in this game. Ben Bishop had already exited the game when Howard was forced to leave too. The Red Wings goalie was hurt after two players (one from each team) fell on top of him. We'll provide an update for you as soon as the Wings make one available. He allowed more than three goals against for just the second time this season on Tuesday night in a 4-1 loss to Arizona. Howard hasn't received much help from his teammates with a 5-6-1 record, but he has given them a chance to win most nights with a 1.86 GAA and a .937 save percentage.

Jimmy Howard allowed just one goal on 36 shots on Sunday, but received no help on offense in a 1-0 overtime loss to Philadelphia.

Howard, playing his first full game since Nov. 23, played a terrific game to give his team a chance against the red-hot Flyers, but came up short. The veteran looks to be in fine form however, owning a 5-5-1 record, 1.68 goals against average and .945 save percentage this season.

Jimmy Howard will get his first start since returning from injury on Sunday against the Red Wings.

Howard was clearly the better netminder before he went down. He posted a 5-5 record in 11 starts and 13 games with just 19 goals against. The Flyers are playing their second game this weekend, and will start Anthony Stolarz, but they have won eight straight contests.

Although the Wings have been silent on the topic, there is a good chance that Jimmy Howard will get the start Sunday against Phildelphia.

Howard, who had missed two weeks of action due to a groin injury, appears healthy after playing the last part of Friday's game in relief of an ineffective Petr Mrazek. With Mrazek allowing three goals on only 16 shots in a 4-1 loss to the Blue Jackets Friday night, Detroit coach Jeff Blashill could turn to Howard against Philly on Sunday.
