Jimmy Howard (knee) feels he'll be ready to return soon.

Howard faced shots during an optional practice on Monday. "It feels good being able to practice with the guys; we're not quite there just yet," Howard said. "It's gotten better every single day which is a positive. We've progressed every single day, so hopefully we can keep moving up the ladder here." He has a 5-7-1 record, 1.96 GAA, and .934 save percentage in 17 contests this season.
Feb 20 - 6:22 PM

Jimmy Howard was recalled back up to Detroit on Friday.

Howard isn't expected to play this weekend as he's still considered day-to-day with a knee injury. He'll skate on Monday with the team, and will hopefully put him in line to return to the crease on Wednesday when St. Louis comes to town. Howard went 1-1 in two games with AHL Grand Rapids and allowing six goals. Before the injury however he was brilliant, posting a 5-7-1 record with a .934 save percentage and 1.96 GAA in 17 games.
Feb 10 - 5:00 PM

Jimmy Howard and the Red Wings appear to have caught a break concerning the health of the netminder's knee.

GM Ken Holland noted that Howard suffered a "minor setback" with some "irritation of scar tissue", which certainly sounds painful. Nevertheless, Howard is expected to return to the ice next Monday or Tuesday.
Feb 9 - 6:56 PM

Jimmy Howard exited Wednesday's AHL game against Manitoba midway through the third period after he tweaked his knee.

The Red Wings netminder was favoring his leg when he left the ice. Detroit GM Ken Holland said Howard would be evaluated Thursday by doctors in Grand Rapids.
Feb 9 - 7:55 AM

Jimmy Howard allowed five goals on 29 shots in his first AHL conditioning start with Grand Rapids.

Obviously Howard is rusty after missing almost two months with a knee injury. Howard will likely make one more start with the Griffins on Wednesday before being recalled by Detroit. Jared Coreau will likely be sent to the AHL when Howard returns.

Jimmy Howard was assigned to AHL Grand Rapids on a conditioning assignment on Saturday.

Howard has been absent since Dec. 20th with a knee injury. He was one of the League's top netminders before the injury, posting a 5-7-1 record with a .934 save percentage and just 28 goals against in 17 games.
Feb 4 - 12:36 PM

Jimmy Howard (knee) is projected to start in the AHL on Saturday.

That would be Howard's first contest since Dec. 20. If all goes as planned then that would naturally be the a huge move towards his return to the Detroit Red Wings. It remains to be seen though if he'll only need one AHL start before rejoining the Red Wings.
Feb 2 - 4:06 PM

Jimmy Howard (knee) took part in Monday's practice.

He is expected to get some playing time with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL soon. "Feel excited to be back out there with the guys," Howard said. "Look forward to getting down to GR and playing. Not really sure when that's going to happen just yet. Right now, it feels good just to be back there with the guys." He has missed the last 15 games with a knee injury.

Jimmy Howard (MCL sprain) has been moved to the long-term injury reserve list.

Howard last played on Dec. 20. He posted a 1.96 GAA and .934 save percentage in 17 games, so you can't help but wonder what this season might have been like for him if it wasn't plagued by injuries. It might have been different for the Red Wings too as they've endured goaltending issues that are threatening to keep them out of the playoffs.
Jan 19 - 2:49 PM

Jimmy Howard (MCL sprain) was on the ice Monday morning.

Howard didn't take shots though. He's tentatively projected to return between the end of January and early February.
Jan 16 - 1:00 PM

Jimmy Howard has been diagnosed with a MCL sprain that will sidelined him for four-to-six weeks.

Howard also missed time earlier this season due to a groin injury. These setbacks have been particularly unfortunate because they've interrupted what had the potential to be a comeback season for Howard. He's posted a 1.96 GAA and .934 save percentage in 17 contests in 2016-17.

Jimmy Howard has been placed on injured reserve by Detroit.

Man, it's a rough night for the goalies in this game. Ben Bishop had already exited the game when Howard was forced to leave too. The Red Wings goalie was hurt after two players (one from each team) fell on top of him. We'll provide an update for you as soon as the Wings make one available.
