Jimmy Howard (groin) was on the ice for about 15 minutes before practice on Monday.
"I'm definitely making strides," said Howard, who will make the trip to Florida. "It was nice to get back out there. Basically I just did some skating, but I haven't been on the ice since the injury so I'm just trying to get my feet under me." However, there is no timetable in place for his return and he's still expected to miss about month after getting hurt on Jan. 10 against Washington. Jan 27 - 8:14 AM

Jimmy Howard has started some off-ice workouts.

He is dealing with a groin muscle pull that will likely keep him out of action for another 2-3 weeks. The Wings are hopeful Howard will be recovered enough to play by or before February 7th, but groin injuries are tricky. Keep Howard on reserve until further notice.

Jimmy Howard (groin) is expected to miss the next two-to-four weeks.

An ultrasound revealed that Howard has a slight groin tear. The timing on his injury means that he'll miss the All-Star Game, but at the same time, that means a decent chunk of his recovery will take place while the Red Wings are off. Petr Mrazek is serving as the team's starting goaltender because Jonas Gustavsson (shoulder) is also unavailable.
Jan 13 - 1:29 PM

Jimmy Howard (groin) was scheduled to have an ultrasound on Monday.

On Sunday, tests revealed a slight groin tear which could sideline him for two-to-four weeks or possibly longer. However, Detroit is still uncertain when Howard will be available to return. "We're just going to go week to week and pretty soon it'll be day to day," said coach Mike Babcock. "I just know with groins, it takes forever. They say it's 10 days (a player will be gone) and three weeks later you're talking about him."
Jan 13 - 8:58 AM

Jimmy Howard (groin) is regarded as week-to-week by the Red Wings.

What is certain is that Howard won't play in the All-Star Game. Howard was named to the team out of recognition for how big of a factor he's been to the Red Wings' success so far this season. He has a 2.11 GAA and .920 save percentage in 32 contests. This is a chance for 22-year-old Petr Mrazek to show what he can do when he's given the opportunity to play regularly, but he'll have to compete for playing time with Jonas Gustavsson (shoulder) for playing time once the veteran netminder is healthy.
Jan 12 - 5:32 PM

An MRI showed that Jimmy Howard suffered a slight tear to his groin.

The exact timetable for his return is not yet known, but Howard will be out until the All-Star game at the very least. Howard's injury opens up a door for Petr Mrazek in Detroit. The young goaltender will probably get the majority of the starts with Howard out.
Jan 11 - 7:58 PM

The Detroit Red Wings have placed Jimmy Howard on injured reserve.

Howard suffered a groin injury in Saturday's loss to Washington. The Wings' goaltender was taken off the ice on a stretcher. Petr Mrazek will probably get the bulk of the starts for Detroit while Howard is out. It's a big loss for Detroit.
Jan 11 - 2:14 PM

Red Wings' head coach Mike Babcock had no update on Jimmy Howard's injured groin.

Howard injured his groin after stretching left to try and stop a Troy Brouwer shot. "Obviously, it looked like he was in great pain," coach Mike Babcock said after the game. "I've got no update. He'll go back and get tested, and we'll see what happens." Howard was in a considerable amount of pain, and the injury didn't look very good. We'll probably find out more about the extent of the injury on Sunday.
Jan 11 - 12:24 PM

Jimmy Howard left Saturday’s game on a stretcher because of a groin injury.

Howard had been named an All-Star less than an hour before the injury. He injured himself attempting to make a save 1:53 into the game. Howard could get himself onto all fours on the ice after the injury but he needed a stretcher to bring him to the locker room. He made two stops on three shots. Howard entered with a 2.08 goals-against average and .921 save percentage.
Jan 10 - 8:10 PM

Look for Jimmy Howard to start in goal against Washington Saturday night.

He had Wednesday night off as Petr Mrazek defeated Calgary in the second of back-to-back games in Alberta. Howard is coming off a 21-save, 4-2 win over Edmonton. We consider Howard a must start.
Jan 10 - 9:57 AM

Jimmy Howard stopped 21-of-23 shots in the Red Wings' 4-2 win over Edmonton on Tuesday.

Howard was solid when he had to be to earn his 16th win of the year. He is 16-7-7 with an outstanding 2.08 goals against average and .921 save percentage in 31 appearances. If not for some better shootout efforts from the Red Wings, he would be above the 20 win mark already. He is a must start in all fantasy formats.
Jan 7 - 12:47 AM

Jimmy Howard will start against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night.

Howard has won 15 of his 29 starts and is sporting a sparkling .921 GAA and 2.08 save percentage. He should be started in all formats across the land.
Jan 6 - 8:59 PM

Jimmy Howard is pleased with how his 2014-15 campaign has gone so far.

"I'm definitely pleased with the way I've played," he said after Saturday's game. "I think for any goalie, it doesn't matter who you are, there are going to be goals you want back in games that you definitely want back, but I'm just trying to keep those far and few between." In 30 appearances this season, Howard has posted a 15-7-7 record to go with a .921 save percentage and a 2.08 goals-against average. He has certainly bounced back from the meager numbers he had last year and fantasy owners can feel much easier giving him the nod again on most nights.
Jan 5 - 8:41 AM

Jimmy Howard blocked 20 of 22 shots in Detroit’s 4-1 loss to Vancouver on Saturday night.

Howard allowed a goal in the second and one in the third. He was simply bested by Ryan Miller on the other end. Vancouver salted away the game late in the third with two empty-net goals from Henrik Sedin. Howard sports a 2.08 goals-against average and .921 save percentage this season.
Jan 4 - 12:47 AM

Jimmy Howard will get the start against Vancouver Saturday night.

Not a big surprise here, really. Howard is coming off a very easy 3-1 win over New Jersey in which he only had to make 12 saves. Look for him to get more of a workout Saturday against a Canuck team that should be in an ornery mood after giving up a late lead to Los Angeles Thursday night.
