Per Elliotte Friedman in Saturday's "Headlines" segment on Hockey Night in Canada, Jimmy Howard is expected to miss "10-to-15" days.

Let's map this out a bit. Starting with tonight the 10-day mark has Howard missing five games, and the 15-day mark tacks on another pair of games including Dec. 9th's match with Columbus. Petr Mrazek is likely to start each of those games as Detroit has no back-to-backs over that stretch. Howard has clearly out-played the younger netminder, so it's not unrealistic that Howard could reclaim the crease before Christmas.

He's expected to miss at least a week of action, paving the way for Petr Mrazek to claim the crease. Howard is 5-5 through 12 games with just 19 goals against and a .940 save percentage.

Jimmy Howard will miss at least a week of action because of a groin injury.

He suffered the injury in tonight's game against the New Jersey Devils. The Red Wings won the game 5-4 in overtime, but Howard lasted just 11:31. Petr Mrazek entered the game in relief of Howard.

Jimmy Howard left Friday's match with New Jersey due to a lower body injury.

Jimmy Howard is expected to start on Friday.

Nov 25 - 2:52 PM

Jimmy Howard has taken advantage of his opportunities to overtake Petr Mrazek for Detroit's number one job so far this season.

"He looks real good," coach Jeff Blashill said. "He looks calm in there, he looks real repeatable. It doesn't look like anything that he can’t keep doing. It's great for him. Again, he's put the work in to make himself better and prepared and ready to jump through the window of opportunity, which he has done time and time again." Howard has appeared in and started the same number games as Mrazek, but he has posted far superior numbers with a .943 save percentage and a 1.76 goals-against average.
Nov 25 - 7:53 AM

Jimmy Howard stopped 32 of 33 shots in Wednesday's 2-1 shootout win over the Buffalo Sabres.

The win snaps Howard's personal three-game losing streak. He also turned aside two of three Buffalo shooters in the shootout. He's been relatively solid this season, but his record hasn't reflected that. Howard has a 5-5-0 record with a 1.76 goals-against-average and a .943 save percentage in 2016-17. He has a pretty firm grip on the starting job right now.
Nov 23 - 10:57 PM

Jimmy Howard will start Wednesday's game versus Buffalo.

He stopped 23 of 26 shots in a 3-2 loss to Calgary on Sunday during his last outing. Howard has lost in each of his last three starts, but he still owns an impressive 1.85 goals-against average and a .940 save percentage.

Howard falls to 4-5 this season with a 1.85 goals against average and .940 save percentage. Howard has now lost three straight games and allowed nine goals in that span. It appears the veteran is now cooling off after his hot start to the year.
Nov 20 - 11:03 PM

Jimmy Howard will indeed get the nod on Sunday against Calgary.

Howard may be 2-3 over his last five games, but he allowed two or fewer goals in four of them. Currently sporting a massive .945 save percentage through nine games, the rejuvenated Howard should not be overlooked.
Nov 20 - 12:42 PM

Look for Jimmy Howard to get the start Sunday evening against Calgary.

Howard is coming off a great rebound game Friday against Washington in which he stopped 28 of 29 shots in a 1-0 loss. He is simply outplaying Petr Mrazek at the moment and should get the call against the Flames.
Nov 20 - 8:46 AM

Jimmy Howard allowed one goal on 28 shots in Friday's 1-0 loss to the Washington Capitals.

Howard blanked the Capitals for over two and a half periods, but he finally allowed a goal to Jay Beagle with just over five minutes remaining in regulation. Howard has a 4-4-0 record with a 1.71 goals-against-average and a .945 save percentage in 2016-17. He has a strong grab on the starting job in Detroit.
Nov 18 - 11:03 PM

Jimmy Howard will be between the pipes for Friday's game against Washington.

The decision isn't surprising considering Petr Mrazek has struggled this season, while Howard has been superb.
Nov 17 - 12:26 PM

Jimmy Howard still has great numbers this season despite allowing five goals on 25 shots Saturday.

He was pulled after two periods, but still owns a .943 save percentage and a 1.80 goals-against average. "Jimmy has been great for us, his numbers have been unreal," coach Jeff Blashill said. "It certainly wasn't on him."
