Jimmy Howard will be Detroit's starter on Thursday.

Howard has a 1.77 GAA and .937 save percentage in five games. Despite his impressive work, he only has a 2-1-2 record so far this season as the Red Wings have gotten off to a slow start offensively.
Oct 22 - 2:40 PM

Jimmy Howard was a hard-luck loser Tuesday night as the Red Wings were downed by Montreal in overtime by a score of 2-1.

Howard was excellent in this game even if the final numbers don't do his performance justice. He allowed two goals on 36 shots in the defeat and was the sole reason the Red Wings were not beaten during regulation time. With the defeat his record falls to 2-1-2 while his save percentage is a sparkling .937 and his GAA is a minuscule 1.77.

Jimmy Howard (groin) will be between the pipes for Detroit on Tuesday night in Montreal.

He was on 48-hour injured reserve while he recovered from a groin injury, but he's recovered now and ready to go. Get him back in your lineup if you normally would.
Oct 20 - 5:27 PM

The Detroit Red Wings placed Jimmy Howard on the 48-hour goalie IR, according to's Ansar Khan.

Detroit recalled Petr Mrazek to pair with Jonas Gustavsson, who appears most likely to start against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. Howard is eligible to play against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, so it doesn't sound like his groin injury is major.
Oct 18 - 12:52 PM

Jimmy Howard stopped 23 of 24 shots he faced in Detroit's 4-1 win over Toronto on Friday night.

The 30-year-old has been lights out so far this season. Howard improves his record to 2-1-1 on the season, and has a sparkling 1.72 goals-against-average and a .934 save percentage. Howard is a must-own right now.
Oct 17 - 10:43 PM

Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard was solid in a 3-2 shootout loss to the visiting Boston Bruins Wednesday night.

Howard steered aside 37 of Boston's shots as the Bruins controlled play most of the night. Howard's record dropped to 1-1-1 but his goals-against average is an impressive 1.95 and his save percentage is .949. The Wings haven't been scoring much and Howard has been victimized by that but his performances so far in this young NHL season are reminiscent of the way he played before last season, when he was among the better options in the crease.
Oct 15 - 11:52 PM

Jimmy Howard yielded three goals on 26 shots in Detroit’s 3-2 loss to the Ducks on Saturday night.

Howard is coming off a year in which he recorded a .910 save percentage, so he’s looking to rebound this year. While not among the league’s best, he is a solid starting netminder in fantasy leagues. He has a 2.00 goals-against average and .907 save percentage this season.
Oct 11 - 10:13 PM

Look for Jimmy Howard to get the start against the Ducks Saturday night.

He played very well in the Red Wings' 2-1 win over the Bruins Thursday night and should be between the pipes against Anaheim Saturday evening. By the way, Howard has a lifetime 9-3-1 record against the Ducks with a 2.00 GAA, .933 SP and three shutouts over 13 games. It might be a good idea to start him Saturday night.
Oct 11 - 9:41 AM

Jimmy Howard has worked hard over the summer and he's excited to get started in 2014-15.

"The big thing is, he's trained real hard this summer," coach Mike Babcock said. "When you earn the right to feel good about yourself through your training and your work ethic and your eating habits, all those things, I think you've got a way better chance for success." Howard was disappointed by his lack of consistency last season, but he's confident going into this year.
Sep 24 - 8:11 AM

Jimmy Howard still has five years remaining on his contract, but the 2014-15 campaign is viewed as an important one for him.

First of all, he wants to be better after his statistics slipped last season. Howard posted an inconsistent mark of 21-19-11 to go with a .910 save percentage and a 2.66 goals-against average. Jonas Gustavsson showed last year that he could be relied on to fill in at times when he stole a few starts, but he shouldn't be viewed as that much of a threat. The Red Wings have been grooming Petr Mrazek in the minors and he could be the best option of the three very soon. He may see action with the big club again at some point this year and he'll likely have a full-time spot on Detroit in 2015-16.
Sep 1 - 10:53 AM

Jimmy Howard called 2013-14 "an OK season" for himself.

"But by no means was it a good or great season," he said. "I think I can be a lot better, a lot more consistent for the guys, and that's what I'm going to work on over the summer." Howard posted his worst numbers since a sophomore year this past season, while sporting a .910 save percentage and a 2.66 goals-against average. Howard is determined to be better next campaign and he's confident that he can be based on his past.
May 2 - 9:11 AM

Jimmy Howard said that he has been dealing with the flu and didn't have a concussion as was speculated.

Howard missed Games 4 and 5 of Detroit's first round series against Boston, but that came after he was kneed in the head during Game 3. The Red Wings lost their final two contests.
Apr 29 - 1:14 PM

Jimmy Howard will serve as Detroit's backup goaltender in Game 5.

It's odd that he's healthy enough to sit on the bench, but not start against Boston. Jonas Gustavsson was between the pipes Thursday night and he'll play again this afternoon. There's been some speculation that Howard has a concussion even though the Red Wings say he is suffering from the flu.
Apr 26 - 3:16 PM

There has been some speculation that Jimmy Howard sustained a concussion in Game 3 after being kneed in the head by Carl Soderberg during a scrum around the Detroit net.

If that is true, it would explain a lot of things. Why Howard did not play in Game 4. Why he did not practice on Friday and why he won't play in Saturday's potential elimination game. If we find anything else out we will pass it along.
