Andrew Ladd said it would like to have a new contract in place before the start of the year, but he understands that these things can take time.

Ladd made it known that he wants to stay with the Jets and he believes both sides will come to an agreement because there is mutual interest. He can become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Andrew Ladd has been on the ice for the past two weeks and he's feeling fine following off-season sports hernia surgery.

"That part's been good," said Ladd referring to his quick recovery. "It's been a different summer because I don’t usually take a whole lot of time off and I get back into it quickly. This was a slower start to the off-season and I kind of (eased) my way into things, doing different stuff. But it's feeling good and I'm excited to be back on the ice." He suffered the injury midway through last season, but isn't sure when exactly it occurred. Ladd wasn't able to practice much due to the ailment, but he still managed to rack up a team-leading 62 points in 81 games.

Andrew Ladd is nominated for the Mark Messier Leadership Award.

"It means a lot for different reasons," said Ladd, who is a finalist alongside Jonathan Toews and Ryan Getzlaf. "The two guys I'm nominated with I've played with and realized what they mean to their teams and to their communities and I know what they do on a daily basis as leaders. So, to be mentioned in the same group as them is quite an honor. And with Mark Messier having a hand in choosing the nominations is pretty special, too." Ladd will have sports hernia surgery on Friday.

Andrew Ladd has one more year left on his contract and he's open to start talking about an extension this summer.

"Obviously, I'd have to talk to my family about it, but we enjoy it here," he said. "Hockey-wise, we see the excitement around the team and what's gone on here and now more than ever you want be a part of it." Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff called Ladd and Dustin Byfuglien "a big part of our team, big part of our leadership group" and he said that he hopes to "continue to have them as part of our team for many years to come."

Andrew Ladd was playing through a sports hernia for more than two months.

According to reports, the Winnipeg Jets have eight significant injuries to players on their team including Andrew Ladd.

According to Stephen Whyno of the Canadian press, Ladd had an injury that would have kept him out for a month but he "gutted it out." Ladd picked up his first point of the series in the 5-2 loss on Wednesday. The NHL season is a long grueling one and teams coming out and announcing injuries at the end of the season is nothing new. We will see what other names come out over the coming days.
Apr 23 - 2:21 AM

Andrew Ladd did all he could, but the Jets still found a way to fall to the Ducks 5-4 in overtime. Giving Anaheim a commanding 3-0 series lead.

Ladd didn't record a point, but he did co-lead the team in shots with six (Bryan Little), and lead all skaters with 12 hits, plus two blocks and takeaways during his 21:07 of work. He spent 5:24 of his time on special teams, as well. Through three games these playoffs, the Jets' captain is still pointless, though he has eight goals and 15 points in 56 career playoff games.
Apr 21 - 1:47 AM

Jets captain Andrew Ladd took a hi-sticking penalty in the third period which resulted in Anaheim tying the game.

It was Ladd's second minor penalty of the game, but this one could not have come at a worse time. Ducks forward Patrick Maroon scored on the ensuing power play and the Ducks would eventually add a late goal to take a 2-0 lead in the series. Despite the penalty, Ladd's teammates know that he's an important part of the team. "He's the heart and soul of our team and there's been games where he's willed us to wins and put the team on his back," Adam Lowry said of Ladd. "Obviously we know he's disappointed that he took that penalty. That's tough for him to have to sit there and watch. It's unfortunate that we weren't able to pick him up in that instance."
Apr 19 - 10:42 AM

Andrew Ladd hasn't scored a goal in eight straight games.

Ladd isn't necessarily playing poorly but he has been unable to find the back of the net in quite some time. The 29-year-old is still having an impressive season with 24 goals and 61 points in 78 games. The Jets will need him to find his offensive touch rather quickly as they are tied with Los Angeles for the final playoff spot in the West (the Kings own the tie-breaker).
