| C | 1 | Bryan Little ActiveRestricted free agent Bryan Little and the Winnipeg Jets have started to talk about a new contract. Little's agent, Anton Thun, said "very preliminary" talks have begun. He made a salary of $3,000,000 during the lockout-shortened season, while producing seven goals and 25 assists in 48 games. Jun 11 |
Olli Jokinen SidelinedOlli Jokinen will continue to rest and rehab his ankle injury during the off-season. He won't require surgery after sustaining a high-ankle sprain late in the 2013 campaign. Jokinen had a disappointing first year with the Jets after he was brought in with the hope of anchoring the team's top line. He notched seven goals and seven assists, while picking up a minus-19 rating, in 45 games. May 23
Alexander Burmistrov ActiveAlexander Burmistrov's agent, Mark Gandler, is reportedly gauging interest around the league for his client. It was reported in May that Burmistrov doesn't want to re-sign with the Winnipeg Jets, but as a restricted free agent, with no arbitration rights, he doesn't have much leverage in the situation. Jun 11
Mike Santorelli ActiveMike Santorelli scored again in Tuesday's shootout. He is 10 for 19 in his career during the NHL's breakaway competition, which gives him some value to the Winnipeg Jets down the stretch. "I'm glad it went in," Santorelli said. "I'll help any way I can. I just kind of read off the goalie. I've got a couple of moves. I just go in thinking of one and take whatever. Today my was first one but I was a little bit nervous. I'm glad we got the extra point." The Jets are tied with the New York Rangers for the final playoff spot so any extra points they can muster in shootouts could be the difference down the stretch. Santorelli has one regulation time point, an assist, in five games with Winnipeg since being claimed off waivers from Florida. Apr 17
Jim Slater ActiveJim Slater (broken hand) says he could've returned if the Winnipeg Jets made the playoffs. Slater missed the final 29 games of the lockout-shortened season after getting hit in the hand by a shot March 12. "It just caught me in the right spot. At first, I didn't really know it was broken. It didn't even hurt but there was a pretty significant break," Slater said. "The finger was actually more trouble than I thought it would be. It took a little longer to get back than I thought. Towards the end of the season, I was real close to playing those final few games but I just wasn't able to get back." Jun 14
James Wright ActiveJames Wright was activated from the IL on Saturday but was not able to get on the scoresheet in the Jets' 4-1 win over the Flyers. Wright was on the ice for just over nine minutes in the contest and was not a factor in the win. Apr 7
| LW | 1 | Andrew Ladd ActiveAndrew Ladd has been one of Canada's better players at the IIHF World Championships. Ladd had a terrific season with the Jets with 46 points in 48 games and he has continued to hold a hot stick at the World Championships with three goals and four points in five games. There are many who regard Ladd's accomplishments as a bit flukey. Don't count us amongst them. May 11 |
Evander Kane ActiveJets forward Evander Kane was scheduled to meet with Jets brass after the controversial tweet he posted Thursday night. Kane publicly apologized soon after posting the message, but he was expected to meet with GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and co-owner Mark Chipman in-person on Friday. Jets spokesman Scott Brown also offered some insight into the team's perspective, saying "Our collective goal is to work with Evander, to offer him counsel on making better decisions on social media and Twitter." While his maturity level remains in question, Kane's talent is unquestioned and the sky is the limit for his NHL career. Jun 16
Eric Tangradi ActiveEric Tangradi's goal may have bought himself a little more time on the Jets' roster. He had played in all 16 games since being acquired from the Penguins, but he had no points to show for it. He scored in the first period on Thursday, in 4:48. "That felt great. I’ve been trying to contribute and I think I have with my size, but scoring is something I have to do as well," said Tangradi. "Hopefully this will give me more opportunity and I can build on this." Mar 8
Chris Thorburn ActiveChris Thorburn feels there's plenty of hockey left in him and he's eager to be better offensively when the lockout ends. He scored just 11 points in 72 games last season, but registered 151 hits and 83 penalty minutes. "I'm 29 and I feel like there's a lot of hockey left in my body and I'm as energized as ever," Thorburn said. "Maybe it'll be that this break will be a blessing in disguise, that guys like myself, crashing and banging every night, will have rested their wounds and when it's time to get back at it, we'll go full tilt." Oct 17
Antti Miettinen ActiveAntti Miettinen scored the game-winning goal for Winnipeg Monday night. He also finished the Jets' 2-1 victory with a plus-2 rating despite getting just 9:54 of ice time. Miettinen was playing in his first game since April 4 after he had been relegated to the press box. He finished the game alongside James Wright and Evander Kane when Kyle Wellwood got injured. Apr 23
| RW | 1 | Blake Wheeler ActiveThe Winnipeg Jets have not started discussing a new contract with restricted free agent Blake Wheeler. Wheeler led the Jets in scoring during the 2011-12 season, with 64 points in 80 games, and he finished second on the club with 41 points in 48 contests during the lockout-shortened campaign. He earned a salary of $2,650,000 this past year, so he's due for a substantial raise. Jun 11 |
Kyle Wellwood SidelinedKyle Wellwood suffered a long-term hand injury Monday night, which will likely end his season. He blocked a shot from Thomas Vanek in the second period and returned to finish the stanza, but didn't play in the third. Nik Antropov is projected to be available to play and take Wellwood's place in the lineup. Apr 23
Nik Antropov ActiveNik Antropov generated a goal and an assist in Winnipeg's 5-3 loss to Washington Tuesday night. It was his first game back since April 2 because of a lower-body injury and he displayed some good leadership while garnering 18:41 of ice time. Antropov was also credited with two hits and two blocked shots. He's unrestricted free agent this summer and his future with the club is uncertain. Apr 24
Anthony Peluso I.L.Anthony Peluso (hand) returned to practice Tuesday. It marked the first time he had done so since breaking a bone in his hand on March 2. "I guess right now it'll be day to day, (that's how) we'll take it," Peluso said. "I haven't really talked to the trainers about it. That's coming from me. I mean, if it was up to me, I'd be in the lineup tonight. There's protocols to follow." Coach Claude Noel said it may take some extra time for Peluso to get back into game shape. Apr 10
Aaron Gagnon ActiveAaron Gagnon registered his first NHL goal in Winnipeg's 4-1 win over Buffalo on Tuesday night. He was credited with the game-winning tally in his third contest this season since coming up from the minors. Gagnon had two assists in his previous 30 NHL appearances. Apr 10
| D | 1 | Dustin Byfuglien ActiveDustin Byfuglien reportedly weighed 302 pounds by the end of the 2013 campaign, according to Jets blogger Pete Tessier. Byfuglien's fitness levels have been a common source of criticism in the past and it may be hurting his trade value in any potential deals down the road. Coach Claude Noel referred to Byfuglien's play as "up and down" late in the season and if the Jets want to maximize his value then he will have improve his fitness and get more consistent. Jun 11 |
Tobias Enstrom I.L.Tobias Enstrom had a back injury at the end of the regular season. The ailment forced him to sit out the final seven games of the year, but it won't require off-season surgery. Enstrom will just need to get more rest and treatment during the summer. May 23
Ron Hainsey ActiveRon Hainsey may test the waters as an unrestricted free agent. His last deal was worth $22.5 million over five years, but he's unlikely to get that kind of a contract this time. His representatives may use Robyn Regehr's recent two-year deal at $6 million as a comparable, but Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press doesn't think the Jets will go that high since they have some key restricted free agents to re-sign and a number of young blueliners waiting for a shot at the NHL. Jun 11
Zach Bogosian SidelinedZach Bogosian has begun his contract negotiations with the Winnipeg Jets. Bogosian is scheduled to become a restricted free agent this summer. He had five goals and 14 points in 33 games this season. Jun 7
Grant Clitsome ActiveGrant Clitsome returned to action on Thursday April 4. Apr 5
Mark Stuart ActiveMark Stuart played through a sports hernia late in the season, but the good news is that it won't require an off-season procedure. He'll just need to rehab it over the summer. May 23
Derek Meech ActiveDerek Meech got back into Winnipeg's lineup Monday night for the first time since April 1. He registered an assist, which was his first point in 16 appearances with his hometown Jets, and had a plus-1 rating in 19:53 of ice time. Meech got back into the fold because of Zach Bogosian's injury. Apr 23
Paul Postma ActivePaul Postma is probably the most likely candidate to go into the lineup if Tobias Enstrom is deemed unfit to play because of his mid-body issue. In 27 games this season, Postma has eight points and a minus-4 rating. The Jets may also decide to go with Derek Meech and are less likely to go with much less inexperienced blueliners of Jacob Trouba or Arturs Kulda. Coach Claude Noel will see how Enstrom feels after the morning skate and make a determination. Apr 11
Zach Redmond ActiveZach Redmond has been summoned from the minors. Redmond was sent to the AHL on a conditioning assignment, which has been completed. He suffered a serious cut to his femoral artery during a Jets practice on Feb. 21. He required surgery but remarkably appears set to aide the Jets in their fight for a playoff spot. Apr 22
Jacob Trouba ActiveWinnipeg GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and assistant GM Craig Heisinger spent most of their time at the IIHF World Champioship eyeballing 2012 first-round pick Jacob Trouba. "We saw him play in a lot of different situations with eight defensemen in the lineup any given night. Jacob played on the first power play in all the games that we watched," Cheveldayoff said. "He was given a lot of responsibility in that regard. He has a very good slapshot. The team was looking for some chemistry in some areas and found it. I think their power play was pretty good and from that standpoint, it was pretty good to see Jacob be a part of it. Not having played for an extended period of time or ever at the men's level, I think there was a good transition period for him. It looked like he was more comfortable every time he played. He's had a wonderful opportunity given to him and he took full advantage of it." It sounds like the team's brass is impressed with the 19-year-old's play and he's definitely a player to watch going into training camp. May 23
| G | 1 | Ondrej Pavelec ActiveOndrej Pavelec allowed four goals on 30 shots in Thursday's 4-2 loss to Montreal. This was a must-win game for the hopeful Jets in order to remain in the playoff chase, but their hopes have faded as a result of the loss. Pavelec sports a 21-20-3 record for the season. Apr 26 |
Al Montoya ActiveAl Montoya is eligible for unrestricted free agency unless the Winnipeg Jets choose to bring him back. He played with the team on a one-year deal this past campaign and dealt with a pair of groin injuries. In seven appearances, he posted a 3-1-0 record with an .899 save percentage, a 2.91 goals-against average and one shutout. If the Jets don't re-sign him then they will have to find another backup goalie for Ondrej Pavelec. Apr 29
