Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma reiterated something the team seemed to admit from the start: Jussi Jokinen was acquired because of uncertainty surrounding Sidney Crosby.
Jokinen actually acquitted himself early on before being phased out. It remains to be seen if he gets another chance with a team - interest seemed lukewarm on him during the 2013 season - but it sounds like he won't be back with the Penguins. Then again, with their free agent issues, you never know. Jun 9 - 3:03 PM

Date:

Jussi Jokinen will not be in the Penguins' Game 3 lineup Wednesday night.

Jokinen did not take part in the pregame warmups. He has three assists in eight postseason games this year. The 30-year-old had seen his ice time dip to 7:46 in Game 2. Beau Bennett will take his place in the lineup.
Jun 5 - 7:44 PM

Jussi Jokinen contributed a power-play assist and won 60 percent of his faceoffs in his return to the lineup Wednesday night.

He pretty much did exactly what was expected of him after being a healthy scratch for the past five games.
May 23 - 12:16 PM

Jussi Jokinen has been inserted into the Penguins' lineup.

Jokinen is capable of being an offensive force, but he's projected to start the game on Pittsburgh's fourth line. He has two assists in four postseason contests.
May 22 - 7:22 PM

Jussi Jokinen is likely to play in Game 4 Wednesday night at Ottawa.

Coach Dan Bylsma wouldn't confirm his lineup, but he did speak in hypothetical terms in the morning about what Jokinen could bring to the table if he played. "Jussi is a guy who's been out of our lineup and you're sitting on a guy who can make plays, score big goals, he's a faceoff guy," Bylsma said. "He's also a guy who would see time on our second power-play unit, as well." Jokinen practiced on the second unit on Tuesday.

May 22 - 4:50 PM

Jussi Jokinen is waiting for another opportunity to play and he may get back into the lineup for Game 4 Wednesday night.

"It's not easy to watch in the press box," he said. "I just want to play to my strengths and help my team win." The versatile forward could help the Penguins on faceoffs and he may join Craig Adams and Tyler Kennedy on the team's fourth line. Jokinen also denied speculation that he had been dealing with an injury, so he's good to go if he gets the chance to return to the lineup.
May 22 - 11:53 AM

It's possible that Jussi Jokinen could return to Pittsburgh's lineup in Game 4 to help his team on faceoffs.

He has been scratched for the past five playoff games, but it's unclear if he is feeling 100 percent healthy. "He's a guy who has played big games," coach Dan Bylsma said Monday. "It's tough having him not in there with our lineup. But we haven't decided on our lineup for Game 4 yet."
May 21 - 7:50 AM

Jussi Jokinen hasn't played in Pittsburgh's last five playoff games and it's unclear if he's healthy or not.

He dressed in the first four games of the Penguins' opening-round series against the New York Islanders after taking a leg-on-leg hit in Game 1. The team has a policy for the playoffs where they don't address injuries or lineups, so Jokinen's status is cloudy even though he may just be the odd man out right now.
May 20 - 11:50 AM

Jussi Jokinen may be a healthy scratch Thursday.

He had just 7:29 of ice time in Tuesday's loss and it appears to be likely that Tyler Kennedy and Joe Vitale will see game action for the first time in the postseason in Game 5. If Kennedy and Vitale both play then Jokinen and Tanner Glass will probably sit.

May 9 - 5:11 PM

With the return of Sidney Crosby, the Penguins moved Jussi Jokinen to their fourth line.

Jokinen has played well with the Penguins (11 points in 10 regular season games and two points in Game 1 of the playoffs) so it was not a demotion per se. Pittsburgh coach Dan Bylsma believes that Jokinen's versatilty and profesionalism make the shift possible. "When and if you play a reduced amount of minutes, you're not as in the game as much, you're not on the ice as much," Bylsma said. "You have to be mentally prepared for those situations, and I think Jussi's actually done already that for us." That said, Jokinen clearly isn't as valuable from a fantasy hockey perspective playing 10 minutes on the fourth unit. Adjust your roster accordinlgy.
May 4 - 1:19 PM

Jussi Jokinen joined his Pittsburgh teammates for Thursday's practice after he left Wednesday's game late in the third period.

Marty Reasoner appeared to clip Jokinen's ankle after he stuck his leg out on a missed body check. Jokinen managed to skate off the ice under his own power, but he was favoring his leg after the game. However, in Thursday's session he skated between Tanner Glass and Craig Adams, so he might be fine to play in Game 2 on Friday.
May 2 - 1:10 PM

Jussi Jokinen suffered a right leg injury late in the third period against the Islanders.

Jokinen played the puck then seemed to want to avoid an incoming hit from Marty Reasoner. Instead, though, Reasoner stuck out his leg at the last minute, receiving a kneeing major at 2:10 of the final frame. Jokinen left for the locker room, favoring his right leg. It's a play that could result in some supplementary discipline. Penguins coach Dan Bylsma had no update on Jokinen's status.
May 1 - 10:55 PM

Jussi Jokinen scored a goal for the Penguins in a 3-2 loss to New Jersey Thursday.

Jokinen has been reasonably good since he was acquired by the Penguins and although he'll fall down the depth chart once the team gets its injured players back he'll be a useful player for the club. Matt Cooke also scored in the Penguins defeat.
Apr 26 - 12:36 AM

Jussi Jokinen had a goal and two assists in Pittsburgh's 3-2 victory Saturday.

Jokinen has been phenomenal for the Penguins with four goals and eight points in his last six contests. Jarome Iginla and Kris Letang netted the Penguins' other two goals. Beau Bennett, Tanner Glass, Chris Kunitz, and Matt Niskanen each registered an assist for Pittsburgh.
Apr 20 - 3:26 PM

Jussi Jokinen said Thursday he's much better after an illness forced him to leave Wednesday's game early.

Jokinen said he lost nine pounds prior to Wednesday's game and was vomiting constantly. Jokinen has seen time on the Penguins' special-teams units but plays mostly on the fourth line, which limits his fantasy potential.
