Ladislav Smid has been sent to AHL Stockton for a conditioning assignment.
Calgary has only used Smid in one game this month and that was back on Nov. 12, so this will give him a chance to stay sharp. He has 12 goals and 72 points in 565 career NHL games. Nov 25 - 10:38 AM

Ladislav Smid will be scratched against the Ducks on Tuesday.

Smid has played in just four games this season, making him and his $3.75M nightly seating an expensive healthy scratch.

Ladislav Smid will draw back into the Flames' lineup on Thursday.

Smid has only played in three games this season and none since Oct. 26. Deryk Engelland has been taken out of the lineup to make room for Smid.
Nov 12 - 1:23 PM

Ladislav Smid and Derek Grant will each be scratched from Tuesday's game with the Avalanche.

Unfortunately, there's not much fantasy value between Smid and Grant to make a recommendation. Thought it may be worth noting that Smid has already accumulated 10 shits and seven blocks, which is about in line with his career averages.
Nov 3 - 8:01 PM

Ladislav Smid and Derek Grant will be scratched against the Oilers on Saturday.

Unfortunately, there's not much fantasy value between Smid and Grant to make a recommendation. They've each played just three games and haven't contributed a point, nor any other meaningful metric.
Oct 31 - 7:57 PM

Ladislav Smid and Brandon Bollig will be scratched from Friday's tilt with Montreal.

Fantasy-wise, Smid's had a nice trio of games since returning from injury with seven blocks and 10 hits while averaging nearly 11 minutes of ice per night. Bollig meanwhile has been a boon for reverse leaguers with 35 PIMs and 22 hits through nine games.

Ladislav Smid was a late scratch against the Ottawa Senators Wednesday night

Smid was scratched in favor of T.J. Brodie's return to the lineup.
Oct 28 - 7:47 PM

Ladislav Smid will pair with Dougie Hamilton to form Calgary's third defensive unit in his first game in nine months on Friday versus Detroit.

"Finally it’s here," Smid said with a grin. "I've put in a lot of work over the summer. A lot of bag skating obviously and a lot of training. Finally it’s here, so there’s a lot of excitement." While Smid has never been a traditional fantasy stud, he's averaged about two hits and blocks per game for his career. Enough for a short-term fill in if your league rewards tough guys and you like comeback stories.

Ladislav Smid (neck) might be back on Friday.

It would be Smid's first game since Jan. 19. "I don’t want to confirm it 100%, but there was some discussion with Bob, and he said there is a really good chance that I could be in the lineup," Smid said. If he is inserted into the lineup, he will likely play alongside Dougie Hamilton.

Ladislav Smid (neck) is hoping to see game action this week.

Smid hurt his neck in January and has yet to return but should get medical clearance as early as Sunday. "Hopefully, I'm going to get activated in the next couple of days," Smid said. "Obviously, it's not going to be easy, right? I haven't played in almost nine months, so it's going to be important to get the timing back. You can practice all you want, but it's not a game. But I think I've done on the ice as much as I could and I'm as ready as I can be." Smid has little fantasy value but should help the Flames with his defensive play.

Ladislav Smid (neck) is getting close to returning.

"He looks great," Flames coach Bob Hartley said. "I think he feels great, you ask him. But the doctor who performed surgery was very clear on his return date. We’re closer but we're not there yet." Smid had an assist in 31 contests last season. Calgary is also missing T.J. Brodie (hand), so getting Smid back at this time would help round out the defense.
Oct 15 - 9:15 AM

Ladislav Smid (neck) will miss the start of the NHL season.

How long he will be out for is still undetermined as the veteran defenseman as Smid hurt his neck in January and still has not been cleared for action. It was hoped that he could be ready by mid-October but that seems to be in doubt. Smid had only one assist in 31 games last season so his fantasy value is non-existent in traditional pools.

Oct 3 - 6:09 AM

Ladislav Smid (neck) hasn't been cleared for contact yet.

At this point it wouldn't be shocking if Smid missed the start of the season, but he does hope to be ready by mid-October. "I was kind of hoping I’d be ready for the beginning of camp," he said. "But the surgeon suggested I waited a couple more weeks. Hopefully it won't take that long." He had an assist in 31 games in 2014-15.
Sep 18 - 10:35 AM

Although Ladislav Smid (neck) is making progress, he hasn't been given full medical clearance for training camp.

"My sense right now is everything is progressing, but he’s not necessarily going to be ready for contact at training camp," Flames GM Brad Treliving said. "We'll get a better sense of when that might be (when he sees team doctors Sept. 17). It was a positive report. There's still steps to take." Smid had an assist in 31 games with Calgary in 2014-15. When he is healthy this season, he will likely battle with Deryk Engelland for playing time as the team's sixth or seventh blueliner.

Sep 3 - 10:14 AM

The Flames assume veteran defenseman Ladislav Smid will be healthy for training camp, but after a serious neck injury in January, it's anyone's guess.

If Smid is good to go, he will compete with Deryk Engelland for playing time on the Flames' third defense pairing. Calgary’s top-five is already set, with Mark Giordano, Dougie Hamilton, TJ Brodie, Kris Russell and Dennis Wideman occupying the key roles.
