Petteri Nokelainen has signed a one-year contract with Brynas IF of the Swedish Hockey League, according to The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta.

Petteri Nokelainen is apparently ready to return from a back injury, so the Canadiens have placed him on waivers.

He'll get to work is way back into game shape in the minors if he clears. However, he may not have a spot with Montreal once he's gotten some games under his belt.

Petteri Nokelainen (back) participated in Tuesday's practice and took part in all the drills.

He hasn't played yet this season because of a lingering back issue, but this session may suggest that he is close to being available. This is just an FYI though, as Nokelainen won't have any fantasy value once he was able to return to the lineup.

The 27-year-old checking forward had been out of action since the beginning of the campaign with a lingering back issue. Nokelainen has been cleared for contact but there is no timetable yet for his return.

Nokelainen had three goals and four assists in 56 games in 2011-12. He isn't expected to have any fantasy value in standard leagues next season.

Petteri Nokelainen scored his first goal as a member of the Montreal Canadiens Friday in a 3-1 loss to the Flyers.

Nokelainen's first period goal gave the Habs a short-lived 1-0 lead as three second period goals cemented the Flyers win. Nokelainen started the season as a member of the Phoenix Coyotes but was dealt to Montreal for Brock Trotter and a seventh round pick as Garrett Stafford was also sent to Montreal. Hal Gill and Josh Gorges had assists on the goal. Nokelainen has no fantasy value at this time.

He will be making his Canadiens' debut following a trade with Phoenix on Sunday. Mathieu Darche and recent AHL call-up Michael Blunden will skate alongside him.

The Habs have traded Brock Trotter and a 7th round pick to Phoenix for Petteri Nokelainen and Garrett Stafford. Nokelainen played last season with Jokerit Helsinki of the Finnish Elite League where he had 27 points and 116 penalty minutes in 46 games. He had 1 point in five games this season with the Coyotes.

Petteri Nokelainen is happy to be back with the Phoenix Coyotes for the 2011-12 season.

Nokelainen played last season with Jokerit Helsinki of the Finnish Elite League where he had 27 points and 116 penalty minutes in 46 games. He then helped Finland win the gold medal in the 2011 IIHF World Championships. Nokelainen played with the Coyotes in 2009-10 but went back to Finland last season to "get better as a hockey player." He should make the team as a bottom six forward and will have little, if any, fantasy value this season.
