Date:

Zenon Konopka (foot) will be back in the lineup Tuesday night.

Konopka has been sidelined since April 11 and was seen in a walking cast as recently as last week. Konopka is a good physical presence for the Wild but has no fantasy value whatsoever.

Zenon Konopka (foot) did not travel with the Wild to Calgary.

Konopka is in a walking cast but could be well enough later in the week to meet up with his teammates as they begin a three game road trip in Calgary tonight. Konopka gives the Wild a physical presence as he has 100 penalty minutes in 34 games but has yet to pick up a point. Consider him day-to-day.
Apr 15 - 10:29 AM

Zenon Konopka didn't skate Saturday morning and left the arena in a walking cast.

Michael Russo of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune speculates that Konopka has been playing with a broken foot and he doesn't look like he'll be available for Saturday night's game versus Columbus.
Apr 13 - 4:09 PM

Zenon Konopka was a perfect 10-for-10 at the face off dot Monday.

The Wild were 44-of-65 as a team as they defeated the Canucks 3-1. Konopka has won 95 of 151 draws for a 62.9 percentage and is eighth in penalty minutes with 71. He has yet to pick up a point but his skills in two potential categories give him some fantasy value.
Mar 19 - 10:12 AM

Minnesota tough guy Zenon Konopka says he has no plans to exact revenge on the Oilers' Taylor Hall for the hit he delivered on Cal Clutterbuck last week.

"You let the game play out and you let your actions be dictated by the game," Konopka said. "Our most important thing when we play Edmonton is to win the game in regulation. That's Priority No. 1. Priority No. 1 is not getting Taylor Hall." Given that the Wild enforcer has been a healthy scratch four times in the team's part six games, we wouldn't recommend trying to insert him into your lineup in the hopes of gaining a PIM windfall.
Mar 3 - 9:51 AM

He isn't playing much -- having been scratched from the Wild's lineup in four the team's past six games -- but Zenon Konopka has been voted Minnesota's new player representative.

Since Konopka was the only Wild player to attend a bargaining session during the lockout, it shouldn't come as a shock that no Wild player raised his hand and volunteered to be the new player rep once Darroll Powe was traded last month to the Rangers. So Konopka replaces Powe, who replaced traded Nick Schultz last year. "Everyone else volunteered me for it," Konopka said. "They had a vote without me and voted I should be the new rep." Maybe this is why the Wild signed Konopka as a free agent in the off-season. Couldn't have been for his playing abilities. The guy has no points in 15 games this season.
Mar 2 - 10:22 AM

Zenon Konopka is expected to play on Saturday after spending two games in the press box.

Konopka has no points and 52 penalty minutes in 14 games this season. That pretty much tells you everything you need to know about him. When he plays, he's a superb source of PIM, but he doesn't bring much else to the table for fantasy owners.
Feb 23 - 1:54 PM

Zenon Konopka was cut for 30 stitches when an errant Jan Hejda high stick hit him between the eyes Saturday.

Hejda picked up a double minor for the infraction but Konopka was back on the ice for the remainder of the game and played again Sunday. "He's been cut a few times and he's a warrior," coach Mike Yeo said. "That's what I love. He doesn't blink, nothing; he just goes back out on the next shift and continues to play the same way." Konopka should be at or near the top of the NHL's penalty minutes lead at the end of the season and should be drafted if you use the category in your pool.
Jan 21 - 10:22 AM

The Minnesota Wild signing of Zenon Konopka adds a lot of toughness to the team.

Konopka is one of the toughest players in the NHL, if not the toughest and can also play the game as he can score the occasion goal and is quite efficient on the draw. His toughness will allow players like Dany Heatley, Mikael Granlund and others to have extra room to show their offensive prowess when Konopka is on the ice. Grab him if you need penalty minutes in your pool.
Jan 14 - 9:58 AM

Zenon Konopka has been staying occupied with his other business interests during the lockout.

Konopka has his own wine label and wine aerator. At the same time, Konopka is thinking about playing in Europe. "We’ve been talking with a KHL team the last week or so," he said. "As of right now I’m getting closer and closer to signing that deal." There's not much time left to save the NHL season, so he's probably getting ready in the event that the 2012-13 campaign is lost entirely.

The lockout is threatening some rare stability for Zenon Konopka.

The past two contracts he's signed have been one-year deals. This offseason, though, he signed one for two with the Minnesota Wild. "The guys have been joking with me," Konopka said. "I’ve always been on a one-year contract, The One Year Wonder, and I finally get two years, and if we don’t get things moving, it might be one year again. The key word for the whole season is frustration, but you’ve got to have hope."

A five-hour meeting in Gary Bettman's office between the commissioner, his assistant Bill Daly and five NHLPA representatives Friday night turned out to be a significant step in the right direction, according to Minnesota Wild forward Zenon Konopka.

"It was very educational," Konopka, who represented the NHLPA along with union executives Don and Steve Fehr and two other players, told NSSradiotv.com in an exclusive interview after the meeting. "We explained our last offer and gave a chance to (Bettman) to explain the owners' last offer. Did we solve the problem? No, but it was definitely a positive meeting and a step in the right direction. Hopefully, we established some common ground that we can start building on." Konopka said he is hopeful that the same seven men will meet again in Bettman's office Saturday, Sunday or Monday. "There are gaps," Konopka said, "and we have to think of ways to bridge the gaps. . .But we're cautiously optimistic now that this can be done." Bettman has said the owners will lock out the players if there isn't a new collective bargaining agreement in place by Sept. 15, 2012.

The signings of Zach Parise and Ryan Suter may have been the exciting big-ticket acquisitions for Wild fans this offseason, but they'll appreciate Zenon Konopka's game just as much but in a different way.

The tough guy is one of the most emotional players and willing fighters in the league. "I've always been a very intense person," said Konopka. ''Sometimes that hurts me. But whether it's doing all the little things or dropping the mitts, I like to compete. Konopka was signed to a two-year deal July 1 and is not just a fighter, but an excellent faceoff man and solid defender. "It's not about me, and it's not about fighting," Konopka said. "It's about winning. I'll fight, take faceoffs, tape sticks. I don't care. I just want to get back to winning."

The Minnesota Wild have signed Zenon Konopka to a two-year contract.

Konopka will provide the Wild with some much needed toughness. He finished third in the NHL in penalty minutes with 193 despite playing in only 55 games after leading the league in 2010-11 with 307. No financial terms have been announced. Grab him if your pool uses penalty minutes.
