Valtteri Filppula will be looking for a multi-year contract when he becomes a UFA on July 1.
The 34-year-old veteran is coming off an 11 goal, 33 point season for the Flyers as he has completed his five-year/$25 million deal. Look for the Flyers to offer him a one or two-year deal at best for around $2.5 to 3 million per season. It appears that if that is the offer, Filppula will take his chances on the open market. He has little fantasy value at this stage of his career. Jun 3 - 7:16 AM

Flyers GM Ron Hextall is hoping to re-sign Valtteri Filppula.

Filppula is set to become an unrestricted free agent after completing his five-year, $25 million contract. He had 11 goals and 33 points in 81 contests in 2017-18. Filppula is the only pending UFA that Hextall has informed that he'd like to re-sign, though we imagine that the Flyers are looking to sign him at a reduced rate compared to his previous contract.
Apr 26 - 3:21 PM

Look for Valtteri Filppula to remain on the Flyers' top line between Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek.

All Filppula did in this role Friday night wa score a goal and regster two assists pacing the Flyers to a 4-2 win to stave off elimination. The Flyers' other lines in the win were as follows: Nolan Patrick between Michael Raffl and Travis Konecny, Sean Couturier between Scott Laughton and Wayne Simmonds and Jori Lehtera between Matt Read and Dale Weise. Flyer coach Dave Hakstol's tinkering resulted in a victory so we would expect that the Philly lineup will look the same come Game 6 Sunday.
Apr 21 - 11:20 AM

Valtteri Filppula scored one goal and added two assists in a 4-2 win against Pittsburgh in Game 5 on Friday night.

Filppula replaced Sean Couturier on the team's top line and the move worked like a charm for bench boss Dave Hakstol. Filppula had a jump in his step, leading the team with four shots on goal, while dishing out two hits and stepping in front of a shot defensively. He should be in line for top-six forward duty in another elimination game on Sunday back home.
Apr 20 - 9:49 PM

Valtteri Filppula will center the Flyers' top line in Game 5 against the Penguins.

Sean Couturier (lower body) is in the lineup, but he's playing on the Flyers' third line. Filppula is filling in on the top line with Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek. The veteran has no points and a minus-1 rating in four games.
Apr 20 - 6:45 PM

Valtteri Filppula will be in the Flyer lineup Sunday afternoon against Boston.

Filppula injured his arm in Wednesday's contest against Colorado but he practised on Friday and seems good to go against the Bruins.
Apr 1 - 9:43 AM

Valtteri Filppula registered an assist in the Flyers' 2-1 overtime win against Washington on Sunday.

Filppula is on a three-game point streak as a result. He has 10 goals and 21 points in 47 contests in 2017-18. That level of production is more-or-less par for the course for Filppula.
Jan 22 - 9:30 AM

Valtteri Filppula posted a goal, an assist and a plus-2 rating with two blocked shots and a hit in Monday's 5-2 win in Calgary.

It had been exactly a month since Filppula lit the lamp against the Avalanche on Nov. 4, and it is his first goal on the road since Oct. 28. Don't get too excited about Filppula's fantasy appeal after this multi-point performance, his first since Oct. 10, as he entered with five straight scoreless outings.

Valtteri Filppula registered an assist in a 5-2 loss to Vancouver on Tuesday.

Filppula has registered a point in each of his last two contests. Unfortunately, before that he endured a run where he had one goal and no assists over seven games. He has six goals and 11 points in 21 contests this season.

Valtteri Filppula has held his position on the Flyers' top power-play unit.

In fact, Filpuula has scored two goals when the Flyers have the man advantage. Although Filppula is not a great offensive hockey player, his opportunities on the power-play make him marginally interesting from a fantasy perspective.

Valtteri Filppula scored a pair of goals in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Nashville Predators.

Both of his goals were scored while the Flyers were on the man-advantage. His second-period marker tied the game at three, while his tally in the third gave the Flyers a 5-3 advantage at the time. Unfortunately for Philadelphia, they allowed Nashville to score the final three goals of the game. Filppula now has two goals and a minus-2 rating in four games. Don't let the two-goal performance fool you, he isn't worth adding in fantasy leagues.

Valtteri Filppula and Andrew MacDonald will be alternate captains for the Flyers this season.

Filppula will wear the 'A' during home games while that designation will be assigned to MacDonald during road games. Wayne Simmonds is also remaining an alternate captain while Claude Giroux will continue to wear the 'C'. Filppula and MacDonald were picked via a team vote. They're replacing Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, who is with Vegas.

The Philadelphia Flyers were happy with the play of Valtteri Filppula after they acquired him from Tampa Bay at the trade deadline.

Filppula had five goals and eight points in 20 games but GM Ron Hextall is looking forward to next season when he has him for all 82 games. "I felt like later in the year, we had more bullets in our gun," Hextall said. "(Jordan) Weal comes in and does a good job. Filppula comes in and really gives us stability. Really upgraded our top nine. So when you're talking 5-on-5 play, just to depend on five or six guys, all of a sudden you have nine guys you can count on." Filppula ended the campaign with 12 goals and 42 points so look for similar numbers next season if he remains healthy.

Valtteri Filppula put an end to his 11-game goalless drought in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Penguins.

Filppula's second-period goal allowed the Flyers to jump ahead 2-1 in the game and they never looked back. He has nine goals and 29 assists in 72 games this season. He doesn't need to be owned in standard fantasy leagues.
