Dustin Penner appeared to score a goal on Tuesday, but it was judged to have came after a quick whistle.
"Well, I’m sure it’s in the rule book," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. "When the whistle goes, right? So what are they going to come and tell us? They’re going to come and say they lost sight of the puck and they blew the whistle." The Kings ended up losing the game 2-1 and now the series is even at 2-2. May 22 - 10:46 AM

Kings coach Darryl Sutter is pleased with the play of forward Dustin Penner thus far in the postseason.

"He matched his season," Sutter said. "He matched his regular season." Penner is notorious for his varying effort levels, but it's clear the Kings trust him once the playoffs roll around. If you selected him in your playoff pool you should feel confident that he'll be a regular in the Kings lineup.

Dustin Penner's goal with less than a second left in the second period stood up as the game winner Friday night.

Penner let loose a wicked slap shot from just inside the blue line as the second period was expiring. The shot seemed to catch Blues goalie Brian Elliott off guard, with Elliott sitting back in the crease instead of challenging the shot. Penner's goal felt like just another piece of bad luck for the Blues, who gave everything they had in the series but were eliminated by L.A. for the second straight season.

The Los Angeles Kings spent much of their practice Friday shooting the puck on net.

The Kings were addressing trying to solve St. Louis goalie Brian Elliott, who came into this first-round playoff series with a record of 0-4-1 against them and a 3.04 goals-against average as wel an .898 save percentage. "He’s only allowed two goals," LA forward Dustin Penner said. "So we’ve got to get more shots. We’ve got to bury our ‘Grade A’ scoring chances."
May 4 - 11:02 AM

Left winger Dustin Penner, a healthy scratch at Detroit on Wednesday, is scheduled to return Saturday as Kings coach Darryl Sutter Sutter tries to beef up the left side.

Penner practiced alongside Jarret Stoll and Justin Williams on Friday. "For us to have any chance in the playoffs, we need to get those guys to be productive players for us," Sutter said of his left wings, "and the way they can do it is to have a good game [Saturday]." Penner praised his new linemates, especially Stoll's faceoff skills. "More times than not, you're starting with the puck," Penner said. "He's always the first guy back. As the centerman, he makes simple, easy plays, tape to tape. And [Williams] has got that creativity in his game, much like Ales Hemsky, who I played with before. He can stickhandle in a phone booth and still hold onto pucks."
Apr 27 - 10:22 AM

Dustin Penner has just two goals and 12 points in 29 games this season.

"There's no deep, dark answer or anything like that," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. "That's what we're trying to do. How's he played? He hasn't played well enough. But that's obvious — we've played 40 games and he's got two goals." There was some hope that he'd have a strong season after aiding in the Los Angeles Kings' playoff run last year. Unfortunately that hasn't been the question so the only question left is if he can once again step up when they Kings' need him the most in the postseason.
Apr 18 - 10:48 AM

Look for Dustin Penner to play on the second line Tuesday when he returns to action after suffering a lower body injury on March 31.

Penner will line up with Mike Richards and Jeff Carter with Kyle Clifford, who took over Penner's spot during his absence, moving down to a bottom-six role. Likely candidates to be scratched in favor of Clifford are Jordan Nolan, Brad Richardson or Colin Fraser. Penner has two goals and 11 points in 25 games this season.

Dustin Penner (lower body) has been activated off of the injured reserve list.

Penner missed a little over a week due to the ailment. He has two goals and 11 points in 25 games this season.

Apr 2 - 10:41 AM

Dustin Penner was a healthy scratch on Monday.

He joined Davis Drewiske and Brad Richardson in the press box. It was the first game that he has sat out since Feb. 10 when he was a healthy scratch for seven of eight games. The rugged winger has only two goals and 10 points in 24 games this season, very close to the seven goals and 17 points he struggled to last year. He is not worth rostering at this time.
Mar 26 - 10:06 AM

Dustin Penner has spent six of the Kings' last seven games in the press box.

At this point, any hope that Penner's strong performance in the playoffs would bleed into the shortened season is gone. He's not worth owning in standard leagues.
Feb 8 - 10:27 AM

Kings left winger Dustin Penner, who said he was "waiting like a dog in a car, waiting to be let out" while scratched from the Los Angeles Kings lineup for the past four games, is set to return Saturday alongside star forwards Mike Richards and Jeff Carter.

Penner said the key for him will be to "keep the RPMs up," and end his tendency to fade quickly. "Especially toward the end of shifts is when I can use my size to my advantage," he said. The Kings will play Saturday against their crosstown rivals, the Anaheim Ducks.
Feb 2 - 10:37 AM

Dustin Penner is expected to play on Saturday after spending four straight games in the press box.

"Yep. He’s ready to go," Kings coach Darryl Sutter confirmed. Penner is projected to play alongside Mike Richards and Jeff Carter. That line had plenty of success in the 2012 playoffs, so it's worth keeping an eye on this situation.
Feb 1 - 5:58 PM

Dustin Penner is eagerly waiting his next chance to play after spending three straight games in the press box.

"I'm waiting like a dog in a car, waiting to be let out," said Penner. He went on to say that he's in "a good place professionally, mentally and emotionally." Eventually Penner will get another shot, but it looks like his strong play in the 2012 playoffs hasn't carried over into any good will this season.
Jan 31 - 10:32 AM
