Andrew Alberts was moved to the fourth line from the blueline for Thursday's game against Detroit.
Alberts was originally scheduled to be a healthy scratch but when Christopher Higgins was unable to go due to the flu, Alberts drew into the lineup. He played only 2:47 minutes and saw no action in the third or overtime period. Fri, Feb 3, 2012 10:41:00 AM

Andrew Alberts had a tough time on the wing Thursday.

Alberts is a defenseman and hadn't played up front in six years, since his Boston Bruins days and that was only for a few shifts. "I just got caught switching in our zone," he said. "The coaches can tell you ideas of what to do in certain situations. But when it comes down to it, you have a million things going on in your head. What do you do with the puck? Where do you go? It's a lot different when you've been playing D for 25 years and switch over. Defensively, I know where the forwards are supposed to be to make breakout passes. But when you switch it around, and I'm (at forward), it's all lost in translation." Alberts could be back up front on Saturday, depending on whether or not Chris Higgins is able to return from a staph infection.

Andrew Alberts is slated to play as a forward on Thursday night in Montreal.

The Canucks don't have wingers Chris Higgins and David Booth due to injuries, so Alberts will skate alongside Manny Malhotra and Dale Weise on the fourth line. He has two points and 12 penalty minutes in 15 games this season.

Andrew Alberts has agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the Canucks.

In 42 games with Vancouver, Alberts posted seven points and 41 penalty minutes. He also led all Canucks blueliners in hits with 113.

Andrew Alberts (undisclosed) will probably play in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals.

Alberts didn't take a shift in the last five minutes of Game 6, but it sounds like Canucks coach Alain Vigneault expects him to play on Wednesday. Alberts has no points and a minus-seven rating in eight playoff contests.

Andrew Alberts left the bench in the third period and although he returned, he didn't take a shift in the last five minutes of Monday's contest.

Of course, Game 6 was already a lost cause for Vancouver at that point, so even if Alberts was just a little hurt, they could have kept him out for precautionary reasons. At the same time, we don't know anything for certain yet. Vancouver is already missing blueliners Dan Hamhuis and Aaron Rome and it looked like defenseman Alexander Edler sustained an injury in Game 7. If it turns out that Edler and Alberts can't play in Game 7, then Vancouver's defense could be a huge weakness.

Andrew Alberts will probably play in Game 3 on Sunday.

Alberts was given the opportunity to play in Game 2 because of an injury to Dan Hamhuis and he went onto record six hits in 11:40 minutes of ice time. Hamhuis isn't expected to be able to play on Monday, which should allow Alberts to stay in the lineup.

Andrew Alberts is relishing the fact he may play in a Cup Final.

Alberts would play if Dan Hamhuis is still out. All indications point to Alberts playing over puck-moving D-man Keith Ballard. The reason would be for his physicality against a rough Boston squad. "I get shivers just thinking about it. When you're a kid in the basement shooting the tennis ball around you're always thinking it's the Stanley Cup finals and you've got the last shot. It's a dream to be here and hopefully I can attain that goal," Alberts said. Expect him to line up with Christian Ehrhoff as the two have played together in the past.

If Dan Hamhuis (mid body) can't play on Saturday, Andrew Alberts might be inserted into the lineup.

Alberts hasn't played since May 3rd, but he skated alongside Christian Ehrhoff during Friday's practice. Alberts had just seven points during the regular season, but he also registered 113 hits and blocked 49 shots in 42 contests.

Andrew Alberts was a healthy scratch in Game 4.

Alberts has played very well but with the return of Sami Salo to the blueline, coach Alain Vigneault decided to sit Alberts and keep Aaron Rome in the lineup as Salo's defensive partner. Keith Ballard, Jeff Tambellini and Victor Oreskovich were also healthy scratches for the Canucks.

Coach Alain Vigneault is very pleased with the play of defenseman Andrew Alberts in the playoffs.

Vigneault was quite complementary to the defenseman and Alberts will likely remain in the Vancouver lineup even with the impending return of Sami Salo to the lineup. Keith Ballard and Aaron Rome will likely sit on Thursday if Salo is able to return, but expect to see Alberts in the lineup for Game 4 as part of the third defensive pairing.

Andrew Alberts was a healthy scratch for Game 1 on Wednesday.

Jeff Tambellini and Aaron Rome joined Alberts in the press box. Alberts played 42 games for the Canucks this season, scoring once and adding six assists. He is worth a very late pick in deep playoff pools if you think the Canucks are going to the finals.

Andrew Alberts (wrist) returned to practice on Saturday.

The defenseman has been out for the last six weeks after breaking his wrist on Feb. 14. He has seven points and 41 penalty minutes in 42 games this season. Alberts would like to play at least once this week to give him a chance to play before the playoffs begin in 10 days. He is worth a late pick in playoff pools as Vancouver is expected to go to the Stanley Cup finals.

Andrew Alberts will undergo wrist surgery on Tuesday.

Alberts is expected to miss the next six to eight weeks as a result. He has seven points and 41 penalty minutes in 42 games this season.

Andrew Alberts suffered a broken wrist during Monday's game.

Vancouver now has five blueliners on the sidelines due to a variety of ailments. Alberts will be out indefinitely, coach Alain Vigneault. The Canucks are expected to place Alberts on the long-term injured reserve list in the near future. We'll keep you posted.
