Raitis Ivanans has inked a two-year contract with Dinamo Riga of the KHL.
Ivanans skated in just two games over the past two seasons because of a concussion that he suffered in the firs contest of the regular season in 2010-11. He managed to return this past campaign though and appeared in one game with Calgary and 27 with the team's AHL affiliate in Abbotsford. Wed, May 23, 2012 08:11:00 AM

The Calgary Flames have sent Raitis Ivanans to the minors.

Ivanans was recalled earlier in the week and was thrilled to be back in the NHL but the thrill only lasted three days. There is no need to use a waiver claim on the enforcer now.

Raitis Ivanans is thrilled to be back in the NHL.

Ivanans was recalled from Abbotsford of the AHL where the enforcer had three points and 15 penalty minutes in 13 games. He only played once last season as he suffered a concussion in the opening game when he fought Steve MacIntyre, then with the Oilers. "You can’t really explain it," Ivanans said. "It’s feels great. You realize how much you take it for granted when you’re here," Ivanans said. "And then when you’re down and come back, you just want to grab it and never let it go." We wish him the best of luck in his return.

Just to confirm, the Calgary Flames have promoted Raitis Ivanans.

Ivanans cleared re-entry waivers Wednesday afternoon, so it was assumed that he'd be called up. He has three points and 15 penalty minutes in 13 AHL games this season.

Raitis Ivanans has successfully cleared re-entry waivers.

Ivanans can average about two penalty minutes per game, but he doesn't do much else from a fantasy perspective. If Ivanans gets regular minutes with the Flames, it will probably be as a fourth liner.

Raitis Ivanans is on re-entry waivers.

Ivanans already cleared regular waivers earlier this season, but perhaps the appeal of having him for only half his salary and cap hit will entice another team to grab him. Ivanans is good for about two penalty minutes per game, but he has no offensive upside.

Raitis Ivanans has cleared waivers and has been sent to Abbotsford by the Calgary Flames.

Ivanans was an enforcer throughout his career but a concussion in the first game of last season sidetracked his career and he has not played since. He will get a chance to get into playing shape in the AHL and hopefully a return to the NHL isn't out of the question.

Raitis Ivanans has been placed on waivers by the Calgary Flames.

He hasn't played since Calgary's opener last season due to a concussion, but he was cleared for contact drills prior to the 2011-12 campaign. If he clears then he will probably try to get his conditioning back in the minors if he's healthy enough to play.

Raitis Ivanans (concussion) didn't play in the Flames' season opener and he isn't expected to play in Game 2 on Monday.

Ivanans was cleared to participate in contact drills almost two weeks ago, but it could take him a while to get back into game shape after being sidelined since October 7th, 2010. It also remains to be seen if the Flames will use him consistently on their fourth line once he's ready. We'll keep you posted.

Raitis Ivanans (concussion) has received medical clearance for full contact participation.

The Calgary enforcer was knocked out in the first game of the 2010-11 campaign by the Oiler tough guy Steve MacIntyre and he missed the rest of the year with a concussion. Ivanans will have to work his way back into shape now and it's not exactly clear where he fits into the Flames' plans at this point.

Ivanans was hurt in the first game of the 2010-11 season after suffering a knockout punch from the Oilers Steve MacIntyre. Almost a year removed from the incident, Ivanans career could be in jeopardy as his value to the Flames is as an enforcer.

Raitis Ivanans is still questionable for the start of the 2011-12 campaign because of a concussion.

He was hurt in the first game of the year following a knockout punch from former Edmonton tough guy Steve MacIntyre. "He has begun doing some training," said GM Jay Feaster. "He's not doing the full program yet. But he has reported some progress. There's more optimism on our part now than at the end of the season. But we won't know exactly where he stands until he gets into camp and is evaluated by the medial staff."

Raitis Ivanans (concussion) is still not allowed to work out.

Ivanans suffered the concussion on opening night back in early October when he was in a fight with the Oilers Steve MacIntyre. He was allowed to practice back in November but has been shut down since then. "Raitis is not cleared for any activity," acting GM Jay Feaster said. "The protocol on him is he needs complete rest. We want to get him symptom free before he can start doing anything." Just an FYI in case you were looking for an update on the enforcer.

Raitis Ivanans traveled with his Calgary teammates to Detroit for Sunday's game against the Red Wings but has not been cleared to play.

He is recovering from a concussion sustained in a fight with the Oilers' Steve MacIntyre on opening night. The Flames' enforcer is practising, though, and is inching closer to a return. Consider Ivanans day-to-day.

Raitis Ivanans was skating with the Calgary Flames on Saturday during practice.

Ivanans has been out since being concussed by Steve MacIntyre on opening night. "It’s still no-contact practices, including (no) battle drills or anything like that," said Flames coach Brent Sutter. "He’s getting closer. We’ll continue to monitor it day to day. We’ll get him into some tough (post-practice) skates now with the coaches. It’s a good sign." Ivanans will be with the team on their five-game road trip.
