Mike Green has reportedly received a pair of short-term contract offers from the Detroit Red Wings.
Green is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this summer after completing a three-year, $18 million contract. The offers he received from Detroit are one-year and two-years, respectively. It wouldn't be surprising if there was a better offer out there for Green as an unrestricted free agent, so he might end up testing the market. Jun 13 - 12:18 PM

The Detroit Red Wings are reportedly interesting in bringing back potential unrestricted free agent Mike Green.

GM Ken Holland met with the veteran's agent during the combine in Buffalo. Green had eight goals and 33 points in 66 games before finishing the season on injured reserve after undergoing surgery on his cervical spine. Bringing him back would be an interesting decision for the Red Wings considering he's an older player coming off a significant injury. Whether they want to admit it or not, Detroit is in the middle of a rebuild, so going with younger players is probably the way to go here.

Mike Green's surgery on his cervical spine was a success.

Green has addressed a problem that he's been dealing with for about a year and had played through. He's expected to be fine for the start of training camp. Green can become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Apr 10 - 1:46 PM

Mike Green is expected to need a minimum of two months of recovery time after he undergoes surgery on his cervical spine.

"This dates back to a year ago," coach Jeff Blashill said. "He's played through it. We knew at some point this was inevitable. We were hoping he was going to be able to get through it. There were different times throughout the year where if he took the wrong hit, it created the symptoms." This explains why the Red Wings were unable to trade Green before the deadline. He had eight goals and 33 points in 66 games this season. Green will be an unrestricted free agent in the summer.
Mar 23 - 10:13 AM

Mike Green (cervical spine) will undergo season-ending surgery.

The Red Wings made the announcement minutes before they took on the Capitals on Thursday night. Green has eight goals and 33 points in 66 games this season. He's scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
Mar 22 - 7:26 PM

Mike Green scored a goal in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks.

Green's tally at the 17:14 mark of the first period tied the game at one. He finished the game with two penalty minutes, five shots on goal and one hit in 21:09 of ice time. He's up to eight goals and 33 points in 64 games this season.
Mar 17 - 9:12 AM

Mike Green (upper body) has declared himself ready for Friday's game.

Green is making his return after spending seven consecutive contests on the sidelines. He has six goals and 29 points in 56 games this season.
Mar 1 - 5:26 PM

Mike Green (upper body) won't make his return on Wednesday.

Green did skate Wednesday morning though. As previously noted, the hope is that Green will return on Friday or Sunday.
Feb 28 - 1:18 PM

Mike Green (upper body) is projected to be back in the lineup this weekend.

It sounds like Green won't be available for Wednesday's match against St. Louis. Green could be good to go at Winnipeg on Friday or when Detroit visits Minnesota on Sunday.
Feb 28 - 9:58 AM

Detroit was not able to deal pending unrestricted free agent Mike Green before Monday's deadline.

Green reportedly attracted interest from Tampa Bay and Washington, but his injury situation was a worrisome issue. "The teams that had interest couldn't justify they were taking on that cap space and maybe spending some assets and run the risk that they wait for Mike to get healthy," GM Ken Holland said. "And if he did get healthy, could he play until the middle of June." Green hasn't played since Feb. 15 due to a neck injury.
Feb 27 - 9:57 AM

Mike Green (upper body) skated Sunday morning, but he won't play against the Rangers.

This will be Green's sixth straight game on the sidelines due to an upper-body injury, but even if the veteran were healthy he might not be in the lineup. He is apparently feeling much better, but he is prime trade candidate ahead of Monday's deadline.
Feb 25 - 6:16 PM

Mike Green (upper body) won't play in Saturday's game against Carolina.

This will be the fifth game in a row that Green misses because of the injury. He practiced with his teammates on Friday, but the Red Wings want to avoid having him aggravate an injury right before the trade deadline. The pending unrestricted free agent will almost certainly be moved before Monday's 3:00 p.m. ET deadline.
Feb 24 - 12:22 PM

Mike Green (upper body) took part in Friday's practice.

With that, Green is considered a game-time decision for Saturday's contest. He's missed Detroit's last four contests.
Feb 23 - 2:06 PM

Mike Green (upper body) will miss Thursday's game.

It will be Green's fourth straight contest on the sideline. The hope is that he'll be able to return on Saturday or Sunday though. There's a good chance that the Red Wings will attempt to trade him before the Monday deadline, so Green returning this weekend would help alleviate a potential complication in that.
Feb 22 - 12:23 PM

Mike Green will not return from an upper-body injury on Tuesday night.

Green participated in the morning skate, but said afterward that he wouldn't play against Nashville. He is eyeing Thursday's match versus Buffalo for a return to the fold.
