Travis Zajac scored a goal in a 5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 1 of their best-of-seven series.

Zajac redirected Taylor Hall's pass for his first playoff goal since he scored against the New York Rangers in Game 5 of the 2012 Eastern Conference Finals. Zajac's goal got the Devils to within one of the Lightning midway through the final period but New Jersey couldn't muster up anything else offensively. The 32-year-old center has 11 goals and 27 points in 53 career playoff games.

With a playoff spot clinched, the New Jersey Devils have decided to rest four players ahead of tonight's game against the Washington Capitals.

Travis Zajac, Taylor Hall, Kyle Palmieri and Sami Vatanen will all get to rest up before the post-season. The Devils have been fighting for their playoff lives every night and now that they're guaranteed a spot, it makes sense to give their most important players some time off. If the standings remain the same after today's slate of games, the Devils will face tonight's opponents the Washington Capitals in the first round.

Mar 8 - 10:15 PM

Travis Zajac scored two goals and an assist in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Montreal Canadiens.

He managed to put an end to his 14-game goal drought. Zajac did all of his damage during New Jersey's four-goal first period, as he helped set up the first goal of the game by Stefan Noesen. He also extended the lead to 3-0 and 4-0 with a pair of power-play goals in the final two minutes of the frame. The 32-year-old finished the night with an even rating, two penalty minutes, three shots on goal, two hits in 17:19 of ice time. Zajac has 10 goals and 10 assists in 50 games this season.
