Travis Zajac has produced three goals and three assists in his past seven games.
He has responded well to some changes that co-coach Adam Oates has requested he make to his game. "He challenges you in different ways than a regular coach just the way he sees the game and interprets the game," Zajac said. "I haven't had many coaches who think the way he does. I like to think of myself as a cerebral player and I think having him here just gets me thinking a little differently in some situations. He challenges me to make some plays and I like that." His confidence is growing and Oates has him working on the point on the power play as well. Jan 14 - 2:20 PM

Travis Zajac scored a goal and registered an assist in a 4-1 win Tuesday night.

Zajac has six goals and 13 points in 34 contests in 2014-15. It's been a poor season by his standards, but he has five points in his last five games. Although we wouldn't bet too heavily on the possibility, it wouldn't be surprising if Zajac has a solid second half despite his early struggles.

Devils center Travis Zajac contributed a goal and an assist in the New Jersey Devils' 3-2 victory over the the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins Monday night.

It was the first win for Scott Stevens and Adam Oates, who were named co-coaches by general manager Lou Lamoriello on Saturday after the firing of Peter DeBoer on Friday. New Jersey (13-18-7) lost to the New York Rangers 3-1 on Saturday. Devils forward Jaromir Jagr scored late in the second period Monday and that turned out to be the game winner. It was his 126th game-winning goal, extending his NHL record. Zajac's goal was his sixth of the season. He also produced his fifth assist on Adam Henrique's 10th goal of the season.

Zajac missed eight games due to the injury. His return is likely bad news for Scott Gomez, who has been centering the Devils' top line in his absence. Zajac has four goals and eight points in 23 games in 2014-15, but he's capable of doing significantly better than that.

Travis Zajac was also suffering from the mumps while he was sidelined with a lower-body injury.

"Travis had it, but he's over it," GM Lou Lamoriello said Wednesday. "This (the confirmation) only came about the last two days." The process to confirm took five to seven days, so he was recovered by the time it was announced. Zajac has been on he ice for the past couple of days.

Travis Zajac will remain sidelined Monday night versus the Hurricanes.

Even though Zajac has been a bit unproductive for the Devils this year, they would still love to get him back in the lineup. But unfortunately, it won't come Monday night as he is still dealing with a lower-body-injury. He has eight points (four goals) in 23 games.
