Date:

Ben Eager will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

He reportedly won't be back with the Oilers, which isn't surprising considering he spent most of the 2013-14 season with Oklahoma City in the AHL. Eager skated in just seven games with Edmonton.

Ben Eager has been demoted by the Edmonton Oilers.

Eager has an assist and two penalty minutes in seven games with Edmonton this season. He has 407 career games worth of NHL experience and is traditionally a great source of penalty minutes when he's allowed to play for any extended period of time.

Ben Eager was summoned prior to Tuesday's game.

Eager has no points and four penalty minutes in six AHL games this season. He made his 2013-14 NHL debut on Tuesday, logging just 5:27 minutes in Edmonton's 4-3 win.

The Edmonton Oilers have waived Ben Eager.

Eager had two points and 25 penalty minutes in 14 games with Edmonton in 2013. He was a healthy scratch in the Oilers' season opener.

Ben Eager made some nasty threats to the Canucks a couple of days after two Edmonton players were victimized by Vancouver skaters.

He told Sportsnet's Mark Spector: "We play them a lot down the stretch, and we're going to go after their skill players also." The Oilers are clearly still fuming after Dale Weise went after Taylor Hall with a high hit and Zack Kassian's stick broke the jaw of Sam Gagner during Saturday's preseason contest.

Signed as free-agent three years ago, Ben Eager had trouble gaining traction with Edmonton but a job on the Oilers' bottom two lines is the left winger's to lose now.

The key is proving to head coach Dallas Eakins and the rest of the coaching staff that he can still be an effective big-bodied, physical presence. So far, so good, sources say. In both of his previous two seasons with Edmonton, Eager suffered early concussions, which set him back. Many figured his days with the Oilers were over after being put on waivers by the club last season. However, when Eager went unclaimed, he began the road to redemption, working his way from AHL Oklahoma City back into the Oilers' good graces.

Ben Eager is going to get a chance to crack the Oilers' lineup next season.

He was sent to the AHL during the season and has one year left on his contract. He could provide Edmonton with some extra grit. "I think Ben is at the ‘show-me’ stage," said Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish, adding a job is his to win, not lose. "He’s not going to be given the job and have to prove that he can’t do it. He has to really have a good training camp and really make a case to Dallas (Eakins) that he’s going to be able to contribute in those areas."

Ben Eager has been placed on waivers by the Edmonton Oilers.

Eager has two points and 25 penalty minutes in 14 games this season. He comes with a $1.1 million cap hit through the 2013-14 campaign, so he'll probably clear waivers.

Ben Eager netted his first goal of the season on Thursday.

Eager has two points in 10 games. He's a solid source of penalty minutes when he plays regularly, but he doesn't do much offensively.

Ben Eager recorded his first point of the season on Thursday.

Eager has been limited to just seven games this season due to a concussion. He isn't expected to have much offensive upside this season and he doesn't get enough penalty minutes to make him worth considering in standard leagues.

Coach Ralph Krueger has been impressed with Ben Eager's game.

The fourth liner was signed before the 2011-12 season and the thought was that he was an enforcer first and foremost. But Krueger loves the way Eager hits as evidenced by his 15 hits in five games. "Our depth players, our penalty-killers, the physical guys have been playing with such a passion," said Krueger. "These are the things that we need. In the Western Conference, the kind of toughness we need is the kind (Eager) is bringing us. We need players who will go through you every single time you have the puck. That's what we’re really demanding of him and I'm pleased with the way he's come off the injury to give us that. That's a lot of weight coming at you at a very high speed." His fantasy value is still tied up in penalty minutes but if hits are a category, then Eager provides you with a little more value.

Ben Eager was activated from the IL and played in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Red Wings.

Eager suffered a concussion during a fight with Vancouver's Zack Kassian in the season opener and had not played since. He skated for about six minutes in the game. Activate him if you're looking for penalty minutes.

Ben Eager (concussion) is projected to return this weekend.

Eager sustained the injury during a fight with Vancouver's Zack Kassian on Jan. 20. Eager had eight goals and 13 points in 63 games last season.
