Doug Murray recorded five blocked shots in Tuesday's Game 1 victory over Ottawa.
He also chipped in an assist to give him three points in seven playoff games. Murray was paired with Deryk Engelland in the contest. "It was great," he said afterward. "He's very similar to myself. He plays a physical game, a simple game. We make simple plays. He's an easy guy to read off." His offensive support has been a surprising addition to his arsenal, to go with his typical contributions of 11 hits and 15 blocks, which has helped him to slightly exceed expectations. That's two goals in five playoff games for the stay-at-home defenseman. Murray tallied one marker in 43 contests during the regular season.

The Penguins want to be more careful with the puck in Game 4.

The Islanders are a fast team with a quick-strike offense that feasts on turnovers. "We can take care of the puck much better," defenseman Douglas Murray said. "They're a great transition team, and we turn the puck over too much. "I think a lot of it comes down to execution on our part, where we have triggered their offense way too much so far. You have to give them some credit. They've been a lot more aggressive the past two games and made it harder for us. But we still have to execute."

Coach Dan Bylsma thinks that Doug Murray provides the Penguins with physicality that was missing last season.

Murray had five hits and 12 penalty minutes in Game 1. "He's a tough guy who's tough to get by," Bylsma said. "He's strong in front of the net, clearing the net, and he's a physical presence even going back for pucks under pressure. He's a tough guy to hit and affect. He also was a factor physically, certainly a presence all over the rink, even when he's dumping pucks in. Guys are trying to hit him and he's a physical force in that regard, as well. "That's something we wanted to add to our team, maybe I felt we missed last year with how our team played, and he has certainly added that."

Doug Murray registered his first goal of the season in Wednesday's victory over Montreal.

He had not found the back of the net in his previous 146 games. Murray clearly isn't known for his offensive contributions, but he does have three points in nine contests since being acquired by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Doug Murray is slated to play his first game with the Penguins Thursday night.

He has been busy trying to quickly learn the team's system. Murray is expected to get ice time on the penalty kill, but it wouldn't be surprising if his minutes get pulled back a bit as he gets accustomed to his new surroundings.

Doug Murray isn't expected to make his Pittsburgh debut Tuesday night.

He should make his first appearance in a Penguins uniform Thursday when the team hosts Winnipeg. Murray's acquisition is intended to help Pittsburgh's penalty kill, which ranks 21st in the league currently. He averaged nearly three minutes of shorthanded time per game with the Sharks and led the team with 64 blocked shots.

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired Doug Murray from San Jose in exchange for second-round picks in the 2013 and 2014 NHL Entry Drafts.

The big blueliner has three assists, 64 blocked shots, 56 hits and a minus-8 rating in 29 games this season. He'll add some grit and depth to the Penguins' defense corps and his acquisition comes a day after the team added veteran forward Brenden Morrow in the trade with Dallas.

Doug Murray was back in the San Jose lineup Monday.

It was thought he was going to be a healthy scratch for the second consecutive game but he replaced Jason Demers in the lineup. He picked up his first point of the season in the loss to the Blue Jackets.

Expect to see Doug Murray back in the press box on Monday.

The Sharks activated Brent Burns on Saturday and were pleased with their six man unit on the back end of Burns, Dan Boyle, Brad Stuart, Marc-Edouardo Vlasic, Justin Braun and Jason Demers so barring an injury, Murray could have a tough time getting back into the lineup.

Doug Murray watched Saturday's game against the Coyotes from the press box.

The stay-at-home defenseman was a healthy scratch for the Sharks, whose blue line has only become more crowded with the return of Brent Burns. He's not worth a spot on your fantasy club.
Feb 10 - 9:12 AM

Doug Murray has been an important part of the San Jose penalty kill this season.

The Sharks were the second worst team in the NHL at the penalty kill at 76.9 percent. They have moved it up to 85.7 percent this season where power play efficiency is at 19.9 percent so they are well above average as they are tied for the sixth best in the NHL. "Very important," coach Todd McLellan said of Murray's role when the Sharks are shorthanded. "You can see the dynamic that he plays in those situations. Our penalty kill has been successful lately, and he plays a big role in it. But, it's not about the one, it's about the four – or last night in overtime, the three, in that case." His stellar play on the penalty kill is keeping him in the lineup.

Doug Murray has reportedly returned to North America.

Murray had three points and 36 penalty minutes in 14 games with Djurgardens of Sweden's second-tier league. Murray might return to Europe if the lockout wipes out the 2012-13 campaign.

Doug Murray recorded the game-winning goal for Djurgardens in a 2-1 triumph versus Orebro in HockeyAllsvenskan play on Wednesday.

The rugged San Jose blueliner didn't score a goal in 60 games with the Sharks last season, so it's nice to see him able to contribute back in his home country. Douglas' lockout teammate Patric Hornqvist picked up an assist on Djurgardens' other marker of the match.

Swedish defenseman Doug Murray has confirmed he will play with Djurgardens in Sweden during the lockout.

The move was reported earlier in the week, but was not finalized until now. Murray becomes the sixth member of the Sharks to sign with a European team.
