Alex Burrows is a late scratch in Thursday's game against Anaheim.

Burrows is out because of an upper body injury. He has four goals and nine points in 16 games this season. The 33-year-old has missed three games this season because of a suspension.
Nov 20 - 10:02 PM

Alex Burrows found the back of the net in Vancouver's 2-1 shootout victory over Anaheim.

Burrows has three goals and eight points in 13 games this season. He's managed to bounce back from his disastrous 2013-14 campaign and is a fair bet to surpass the 40-point mark.
Nov 10 - 11:02 AM

Alex Burrows has served his three-game suspension.

Burrows was being punished for his high, late hit on Montreal's Alexei Emelin. Look for him to get right back into the Canucks' lineup on Thursday against San Jose.
Nov 6 - 9:37 AM

The NHL has suspended Alex Burrows for three games for his high, late hit on Montreal's Alexei Emelin.

Burrows will be eligible to return on Thursday. The NHL ruled that the "hit is so late that it can not be made at all." However, the league also specified that it would have been an illegal check to the head even if the hit was made in a timely manner. Burrows struggled mightily last season, but he was off to a good start in 2014-15 with two goals and six points in 10 contests.
Oct 31 - 6:14 PM

Alex Burrows is expected to have a phone hearing for his questionable hit on Montreal's Alexei Emelin on Thursday.

Burrows hit appeared to be both late and to the head, so it wouldn't be surprising if he ends up being suspended. He has two goals and six points in 10 games in 2014-15.
Oct 31 - 11:31 AM

Alex Burrows was a force to be reckoned with in St. Louis on Thursday night.

In the game's opening minute he intercepted an Alex Pietrangelo touch-pass to TJ Oshie and was in 2-on-1 with Chris Higgins who would eventually put it home. Later in the third, he'd begin another rush that finished with Nick Bonino giving the Canucks a 2-1 lead, they'd go on to win 4-1.
Oct 23 - 11:49 PM

Alex Burrows seems to have found some chemistry with linemates Christopher Higgins and Nick Bonino.

After playing four seasons with the Sedin twins, Burrows lost his spot on the line to off-season acquisition Radim Vrbata. He is now seeing second line duty and he could be worth a pick up on the waiver wire if he reverts to his form of previous years, rather than last season's five goal and 15 point disappointment in 41 games.
Oct 11 - 9:42 AM

Alex Burrows scored a goal in Vancouver's 4-2 victory over Calgary on Wednesday.

Burrows didn't have a great training camp, so this is another example of why it's not advisable to read too much into the preseason. Burrows is looking to bounce back from a rough season where he scored just five goals and 15 points in 41 games.
Oct 9 - 9:13 AM

Alex Burrows did not have a good training camp.

This comes on the heels of a poor 2013-14 season in which he was hurt and managed to find the back of the net only five times in 49 games. Burrows has scored 35 goals in the past but it's looking more and more that the 33-year-old is losing his status as a top-six forward. Hopefully he can turn it around at the start of the regular season but we suggest passing on him for now in drafts.
Oct 5 - 10:52 AM

The displacement of Alex Burrows in the Vancouver lineup is a feeling he's all too familiar with.

With the arrival of winger Radim Vrbata to play alongside Henrik and Daniel Sedin, Burrows will be bumped to Vancouver's second line, but this isn't the first time Vrbata has skated ahead of him on the depth chart. The two players were teammates for the Shawinigan Cataractes of the QMJHL in the early 2000s where Vrbata played a much more prominent role than Burrows. "He was a first-liner drafted by Colorado," Burrows recalls. "I was a fourth-liner that no one really knew about. We had a good time that year, but we lost in the final, which was disappointing." Whichever line he plays on, look for Burrows to bounce back this season after a difficult 2013-14 that was primarily caused by poor luck.
Aug 9 - 1:36 PM

Alex Burrows isn't concerned by his projected spot on the second line.

"The team winning games is way more important than me scoring goals with the twins," he said. Radim Vrbata is slated to play with Daniel and Henrik Sedin this coming season, while Burrows will skate alongside Nick Bonino and Zack Kassian or Jannik Hansen. New head coach Willie Desjardins met with him during the off-season and he told Burrows that he wants him to take on a leadership role and contribute more offensively. That could be a difficult task if he doesn't catch fire with Bonino.
Aug 8 - 11:48 AM

Alex Burrows will likely skate on the second line with Nick Bonino in 2014-15.

Radim Vrbata is projected to play with the Sedin twins, so Burrows will get Bonino and either Zack Kassian or Jannik Hansen as his linemates. "I think we want to have more balance on our four lines and more scoring depth," said GM Jim Benning. "So if we can move Alex, say, from the first line to the second line, it makes our second line better. I think now we have depth at the forward position where every line can contribute in scoring and that's one of the things we set out to do." Burrows struggled mightily last year, while earning five goals and 15 points in 49 appearances.
Jul 4 - 9:42 AM

Team Canada coach Dave Tippett said that Alex Burrows (knee) "probably" could've played Tuesday against Norway if "we needed him to play."

That's good news as it looked like Burrows was seriously injured when he collided knee-on-knee with Joachim Ramoser of Italy on Friday. Tippett expects him to be fine to play when Canada plays in the quarterfinal round this week.
