The acquisition of Alex Burrows has paid off for Ottawa so far.
Burrows has four goals and six points in six games with Ottawa and the Senators have won all of those contests. His recent production is in stark contrast to his performance in Vancouver where he had nine goals and 35 points in 55 contests. "It’s fun," Burrows said. "When I came in here, that’s what I wanted. I wanted to win games. I wanted to have success in the playoffs. It’s only a small sample because we still have a lot of work to do, but it’s for sure nice to start on that note." Don't expect Burrows to keep up anything close to this pace though. He's only averaging 13:32 minutes per game with Ottawa. Mar 13 - 10:11 AM

Alex Burrows scored a goal and added an assist to help the Ottawa Senators defeat the visiting Boston Bruins 4-2 Monday night.

Burrows scored two goals in his Ottawa debut in a 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche last Thursday. Against Boston, he made it 4-2 for Ottawa and cemented the victory at 19:10 of the third period. It was his 12th goal of the season. He also collected his 12th assist of the season on the game-opening goal by Derick Brassard at 1:21 of the first period. Brassard also has 12 goals on the season. Jean-Gabriel Pageau increased Ottawa's lead to 2-0 with his seventh goal of the season at 3:25 of the first period. Mike Hoffman picked up his 20th goal of the campaign to give the Sens a 3-1 lead at 7:50 of the third. Two Ottawa defensemen - Dion Phaneuf and Erik Karlsson -- each had two assists. Phaneuf now has 18 assists; Karlsson, 47.
Mar 6 - 10:34 PM

Alex Burrows scored two goals in his Ottawa Senators debut in a 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday.

After the Sens took criticism for giving up too much for Burrows, the 35-year-old winger responded by taking a couple of Mike Hoffman feeds and beating Calvin Pickard for two goals. He is now up to 11 goals and 11 assists in 56 games this season. It'll be interesting to see how much offensive production he has left over the final month of the regular season. We wouldn't start buying in fantasy circles just yet.
Mar 2 - 10:53 PM

Alex Burrows will debut for the Ottawa Senators on Thursday.

The Senators acquired Burrows on Wednesday and then inked him to a two-year, $5 million extension. He's projected to play alongside Derick Brassard and Mark Stone.
Mar 2 - 4:28 PM

Alex Burrows has inked a two-year contract with Ottawa worth $5 million.

He will have a $2.5 million cap hit through 2018-19 as well as a 10-team no-trade list. Burrows was just acquired from the Canucks on Monday and he was going to be eligible for unrestricted free agency in the summer. He had a cap hit of $4.5 million per year on his previous deal.
Feb 28 - 11:23 AM

Alex Burrows is projected to arrive in Ottawa on Tuesday and practice on Wednesday.

His Senators debut could come on Thursday night versus Colorado. Burrows was acquired from Vancouver on Monday for Swedish prospect Jonathan Dahlen.
Feb 28 - 10:31 AM

Alex Burrows won't play in Monday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

This bit of news is fairly obvious. Burrows was acquired from Vancouver earlier today and he clearly wasn't going to be able to make the trip in time. He'll likely make his Sens debut some time this week. Don't expect him to have much fantasy value in standard leagues. Fredrik Claesson will also watch the game from the press box.

Feb 27 - 7:23 PM

The Ottawa Senators have acquired Alex Burrows from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Jonathan Dahlen.

Burrows has nine goals and 20 points in 55 games this season. Ottawa is in a tight race for playoff spots and positioning in the Atlantic Division and as it stands, the Senators are just two points out of the division lead. Burrows provides them secondary scoring on the third or second line.
Feb 27 - 5:41 PM

Alex Burrows is doing his best to isolate himself from the trade rumors.

"I've cut off my Twitter," Burrows said. "I've cut off TSN and Canadian websites. I watch ESPN right now. I'm more aware of the Charles Oakley incident and what happened in the NBA last night (than in the NHL). I'm a huge sports fan; I have to follow sports. But right now, I'm staying away from anything where my name could be." We're still a couple weeks away from the trade deadline, so this might not be a matter that's resolved quickly for Burrows. There's no guarantee that the Canucks will trade him at all, but they're presently shy of a playoff spot and Burrows is in the last season of his contract. That said, Burrows does have a no-trade clause, so at the end of the day, he would have to approve a move.
Feb 14 - 6:30 AM

Alex Burrows picked up a goal and an assist on Sunday.

That's four points on the weekend as he also had a goal and a helper Saturday. He broke a 13 game pointless streak on Saturday and is now up to nine goals and 20 points in 50 games with 49 penalty minutes. He has benefited from the gain of Jannik Hansen to his line with Bo Horvat as the trio struck for 10 points in the two games. He is worth a look in deep leagues because of his penalty minutes.
Feb 13 - 9:48 AM

Alex Burrows has been a huge help to Bo Horvat.

Jason Botchford of the Vancouver Province writes that when both Horvat and Burrows are on the ice, the Canucks score at a 61.5 percent clip but when it's only Horvat, it drops to 40 percent. Burrows only had nine goals and 22 points in 79 games last season but already has seven goals and 16 points in 39 games this season.
Jan 9 - 9:42 AM

There is still a slight chance that Alex Burrows (eye) will not return on Wednesday.

We previously reported that Burrows will return on Wednesday and that's almost certainly going to be true. However, Canucks coach Willie Desjardins put Burrows' chances of playing at 95%, so for the sake of being thorough we're passing along that he's not guaranteed to play. If he does return then Anton Rodin will be a healthy scratch.
Jan 4 - 3:30 PM

Alex Burrows will return to action Wednesday after missing one game with an eye injury.

The move should put Anton Rodin back in the press box. Burrows has seven goals and 15 points in 34 games and really isn't much of a fantasy asset in most pools.
Jan 4 - 10:17 AM

Alex Burrows isn't available on Monday due to a scratch in his eye.

Burrows has seven goals and 15 points in 34 contests in 2016-17. Anton Rodin will draw into the lineup as a result of Burrows' absence.
Jan 2 - 4:45 PM

Alex Burrows picked up a pair of helpers during Sunday's 5-4 overtime win over Dallas.

His two assists gives him four points on the season, all in the last three games. Burrows' high watermark in points is 33 over the last five seasons, indicating that perhaps we shouldn't expect too many more outbursts.
