Alex Burrows is fully recovered from the injured ribs he suffered during the playoffs.
He has been skating with prospects Jake Virtanen and Cole Cassels in the early part of training camp. Burrows will probably see some preseason action with them, but when the regular season begins he is likely to play on one of the Canucks' top-two lines. That will either place him alongside the Sedin twins or with newcomer Brandon Sutter. Sep 20 - 11:42 AM

Alex Burrows was disappointed to see Kevin Bieksa moved in the off-season, but he still supports the changes that Vancouver made to get ready for 2015-16 campaign.

"I put my confidence in our management group of [general manager] Jim Benning and Trevor Linden," Burrows said. "They're obviously intelligent people with a plan, and last season was the first year of their plan." He believes the Western Conference is wide open and expects the Canucks to be in the mix for a playoff spot.

Expect to see Alex Burrows get a lot more time on the top line with the Sedin twins next season.

Coach Willie Desjardins liked the rugged winger playing alongside Henrik and Daniel Sedin. "I think the way Daniel and Henrik handle the puck, they need a guy who will go to the net," Desjardins explained. "If they have a guy there, they’ll get the puck there. I think they need a guy who is maybe a little bit hard on the forecheck and will get in there and be a little bit of a physical presence. I think they need a guy who is a pretty good skater on the line to come back (defensively)." This could have an effect on Radim Vrbata who spent most of the season on the top line. While Burrows value could go up next season in fantasy pools, Vrbata's value could take a small hit.

Alex Burrows (ribs) returned to Vancouver with the Canucks on Saturday.

Burrows was forced to stay in Calgary after Game 4 as he suffered a broken rib on Tuesday during practice. He will have until September to recover since the Canucks were eliminated on Saturday in six games.
Apr 26 - 8:35 AM

There's no word on when, exactly, he's eligible to return (beyond after the first round, if applicable), but it's a good sign that Alex Burrows can at least travel with his Vancouver Canucks teammates.

It appears as if his issue is rib-related. The Canucks face long odds in coming back in this series, but if they can, perhaps Burrows can play in future games.
Apr 25 - 3:43 PM

Alex Burrows will miss the remainder of the first round due to his broken rib.

Burrows is also staying in Calgary rather than traveling back to Vancouver for Game 5 on Thursday. Canucks coach Willie Desjardins said that Burrows injury isn't serious though and his decision to stay in Calgary for now is a "comfort thing." Burrows was hospitalized on Tuesday after attempting to participate in the team's practice.
Apr 22 - 5:30 PM

Alex Burrows' upper-body injury is reportedly a broken rib.

Burrows attended Tuesday's practice, but he left the ice and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. He's reportedly no longer in any danger. He won't play on Tuesday of course and it's not yet clear how long he'll need to recover.
Apr 21 - 4:56 PM

Alex Burrows left the Canucks' morning skate with an upper-body injury and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

The Canucks are saying that Burrows is being hospitalized for "precautionary reasons," but haven't provided much more in the way of information. One thing they have confirmed is that Burrows won't play on Tuesday. Sven Baertschi, who was called up on Tuesday, will likely take Burrows place in the lineup.
Apr 21 - 2:56 PM

Alex Burrows won't be suspended for Game 4.

The NHL Department of Player Safety has ruled that the incident was "not related to the score, previous incidents in the game or prior games, retaliatory in nature, or "message sending." Burrows picked up an instigator penalty at the 18:35 mark of the third period and he amassed 21 penalty minutes in Game 3 on Sunday night. He has two assists in three playoff contests.
Apr 20 - 3:19 PM

Alex Burrows accumulated 21 penalty minutes during Vancouver's 4-2 loss to Calgary on Sunday.

Burrows got two minutes for roughing in the second period, but what got him in big trouble was fighting Kris Russell with less than two minutes remaining in the contest. In addition for two-minutes for boarding Johnny Gaudreau, Burrows got a game misconduct, a fighting major, an instigator penalty. The instigator in the final five minutes of the contest comes with a one-game suspension, but it would not be at all surprising if the NHL rescinded the instigator penalty and he was consequently eligible for Game 4 on Tuesday.
Apr 20 - 10:08 AM

Alex Burrows picked up two assists, including one on the power play, in Friday's 4-1 win over Calgary. The series is now tied at one.

Burrows now shares the team lead in points with two, along with Chris Tanev and Bo Horvat. Perhaps the surprising part of Burrows' game on Friday night, is that he played 13:38 with over three minutes on special teams.
Apr 18 - 3:32 AM

Alex Burrows has four goals in his last four games.

He has also chipped in with an assist as well as 17 penalty minutes to give him 18 goals and 33 points with 66 penalty minutes in 67 games this season. While his output of late has been nice, his fantasy relevance this season is average at best in deep leagues.
Apr 6 - 9:13 AM

Alex Burrows of the Canucks rewarded his fantasy owners by stuffing the stat sheet in a 5-4 shootout win over Nashville Tuesday night.

The power forward not only registered a shorthanded goal and an assist in the Vancouver victory, but he was also assessed 15 penalty minutes late in the contest resulting from a collision with Nashville's Paul Gaustad. Linden Vey, Jannik Hansen and Chris Higgins all scored in the victory.
Apr 1 - 12:08 AM

Alex Burrows will indeed play against the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday night.

After taking a crushing hit by the Kings' Tyler Toffoli on Saturday night, Burrows is expected to take his place with the Sedin twins Henrik and Daniel on the Canucks' first line. Burrows has 14 goals, 28 points, 49 PIMs and 61 hits through 59 games this season.
Mar 22 - 7:43 PM

Alex Burrows scored two goals in 17 seconds to help the Canucks get past Philadelphia 4-1 on Tuesday.

It looks like the "maintenance day off" Burrows had on Saturday helped the Canucks forward as he was money on a line with the Sedins again. It is a familiar spot for Burrows and as long as he gets the run of ice-time with the talented Swedes, he is a must start in all fantasy formats. Alex Edler scored and added an assist while Daniel Sedin picked up two assists. Radim Vrbata iced the game for the Canucks with an empty net goal late in the game.
