James Wisniewski is upbeat going into the Lightning's training camp.
Wisniewski will be competing for a spot on the squad after agreeing to a professional tryout offer. "(GM Steve Yzerman) told me they really wanted a right-shot power play defenseman," Wisniewski said. "I've been in that role the last six years or so. So what better team to come to than a team that loves being here?" Wisniewski had 51 points in 2013-14, but he endured a steep decline in 2014-15 and then he missed almost all of last season due to a torn ACL. He's still just 32-years-old, but he certainly has a lot to prove. Sep 15 - 5:40 PM

James Wisniewski will be competing for a depth spot on the Lightning at training camp.

He could earn a spot on the roster as the seventh defenseman if his professional tryout leads to a contract with Tampa Bay. Wisniewski has to prove that he is back to 100 percent after a torn ACL kept him out of nearly the entire 2015-16 season. If he lands a spot on the team then it would give the Bolts some great depth on the back end.

James Wisniewski has accepted a PTO with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

He only played 47 seconds last season because of a torn ACL and he was bought out by Carolina in June. The Lightning will give him a chance to impress at training camp.

Don't be surprised if the Maple Leafs pursue free agent James Wisniewski.

The Buds are in the market for a moderately-priced all purpose veteran defenseman and Wisniewski and Kris Russel fit the bill. Stay tuned.

The Carolina Hurricanes have bought out James Wisniewski.

Wisniewski's tenure with the Hurricanes' was just one game in length due to a torn ACL. By buying out his contract, Carolina will add $2 million in cap space for the 2016-17 campaign, but they'll have an extra $1 million against the cap in 2017-18. In the meantime, keep in mind that Wisniewski is still just 32 years old and recorded 51 points as recently as 2013-14. A comeback campaign is not out of the question under the right circumstances.

James Wisniewski (knee) should be fully cleared in the near future.

Of course the season is over for Carolina, but if Wisniewski is healthy soon that will allow him to prepare for the 2016-17 campaign without complication. Wisniewski only played in one game this season.
Apr 12 - 12:03 PM

James Wisniewski (knee) might be back at practice with the Hurricanes before the end of the season.

Coach Bill Peters said the team wants to be cautious with the defenseman, so he won't be rushed back before he is ready. Wisniewski suffered a torn ACL in the first game of the season and he hasn't played since.
Mar 21 - 12:22 PM

James Wisniewski (torn ACL) has resumed skating.

This shows that Wisniewski is making progress, but he's still not expected to return until April. In other words, it's entirely possible that he won't play again in 2015-16. The silver lining is that if he's fine by April then this shouldn't impact his ability to get ready for the 2016-17 campaign.
Feb 18 - 2:08 PM

That hasn't been any word on the status of James Wisniewski, who injured his knee in the first game of the regular season.

He suffered a torn ACL after playing just 47 seconds with Carolina. Wisniewski was given a six-month timetable, so he might be available just before the regular season ends.
Jan 27 - 3:28 PM

The Carolina Hurricanes have placed James Wisniewski (knee) on the injured reserve list.

Wisniewski tore his ACL four minutes into the start of the NHL season and his first campaign in Carolina. The offensive defenseman will have surgery to repair the tear on his left knee Tuesday and is expected to be out of action for about six months. It is more than okay to drop him in redraft leagues.

James Wisniewski will have surgery on his left knee due to a torn ACL.

Wisniewski suffered the injury early in Carolina's season opener on Thursday. He's expected to miss the next six months, which means that he might not play again this season. This is a big blow to the Hurricanes as Wisniewski had the potential to play a significant role with the team after recording 34 points last season. Carolina dealt Anton Khudobin to Anaheim during the offseason to acquire Wisniewski.

James Wisniewski is already familiar with some key personnel within the Carolina Hurricanes' organization.

Wisniewski previously played for head coach Bill Peters back when they were both with the AHL Rockford IceHogs in 2008-09. He also has known Hurricanes director of hockey operations Mike Vellucci for a long time. "He was my first coach in junior hockey and he coached me for three years in Plymouth," Wisniewski said. "We've stayed in touch, played golf together. He knows me as a player but also as a person. Coming to Carolina should be a good fit for for me." The Hurricanes acquired Wisniewski from Anaheim in exchange for Anton Khudobin.
