Newly-signed forward Joakim Lindstrom has some ties to the St. Louis Blues.
He played under current Blues bench boss Ken Hitchcock in Columbus and he is friends with Alexander Steen. "So he's got some offensive ability," GM Doug Armstrong said. "I think we're a team that can provide him with an opportunity and he certainly adds to our skill and our depth. Again, I don't want to oversell, but it's a player that has some skill and we'll see how he can fit into our lineup." It's unclear if he'll be able to secure a roster spot on a very deep St. Louis team. May 29 - 2:14 PM

The Avalanche placed forward Joakim Lindstrom on waivers today.

Lindstrom was signed as a free agent in June after spending the last two seasons in Russia (KHL) and his native Sweden. Colorado coach Joe Sacco gave the forward, who will turn 28 on Dec. 5, plenty of chances. Lindstrom played on the top two lines and was used on the point with the man advantage. However, in 16 games, he could only muster 2-3-5 while going minus-9. It was Lindstrom’s fifth shot at the NHL having played parts of four seasons with Columbus and Phoenix prior to going overseas after the 2008-09 campaign.
