Blake Comeau could find himself with an expanded role now that Matt Calvert has gone down with a broken finger.
Comeau is the most likely candidate to replace Calvert on a line with Brandon Dubinsky and Cam Atkinson and given that the former Flame has scored in back-to-back games despite limited ice time, we like his chances of succeeding in this role. Apr 20 - 8:51 AM

Blake Comeau scored a goal on Wednesday.

Comeau has now found the back of the net in two straight games. Since being acquired by the Calgary Flames, Comeau has averaged just 9:01 minutes per contest, so we can't recommend taking a chance on him even given his recent success.
Apr 18 - 9:56 AM

Blake Comeau, acquired by Columbus from Calgary on Wednesday for a fifth-round pick in the June draft, played on the fourth line for the Blue Jackets Friday night.

"We’ll have to wait to really see his game, but his role is probably going to be, No. 1, just a checking role," coach Todd Richards said. "He is a guy that does have some offensive ability, so if somebody is not (doing well) above him, he is easy to move up." Comeau, 27, had four goals, three assists and 14 penalty minutes in 33 games with the Flames this season. But he has been a more productive player in the past, with 41 goals and 40 assists in 138 games with the New York Islanders from 2009 to 2011.
Apr 6 - 11:42 AM

Blake Comeau will play in his first game as a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday.

Comeau had four goals and seven points in 33 games with the Calgary Flames before being traded. He is projected to play on the fourth line.
Apr 5 - 12:58 PM

The Calgary Flames have traded Blake Comeau to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Columbus will give up a fifth round pick to the Flames. Comeau had one good season with the Islanders in 2010-11 when he potted 24 goals but has done little since as he has four goals and seven points in 33 games this season.
Apr 3 - 3:01 PM

Blake Comeau has been getting his confidence back of late after struggling the last two seasons trying to find the back of the net.

Comeau has scored seven times in his last 98 games over the past two seasons after scoring a career high 24 goals during 2010-11 for the Islanders. He is currently playing alongside Jiri Hudler and Mikael Backlund and has scored in each of his last two games. "I don't think I'm a different player than I was a couple years ago in New York," Comeau said. "I just think maybe the confidence got lost a little along the way. But it's slowly starting to come back. I just have to keep rolling with it."
Mar 18 - 6:06 AM

Blake Comeau netted a goal in Wednesday's 5-2 win over Detroit.

Comeau ended a lengthy goal scoring slump on March 6 and he didn't have to wait long before finding the back of the net again. It looks like he's put his slump behind him, but that's only noteworthy news in particularly deep leagues.
Mar 14 - 8:35 AM

Blake Comeau netted his first goal of the season on Wednesday.

It proved to be the game-winner in Calgary's 4-1 victory over San Jose. "I feel that no one puts more pressure on themselves than I do," Comeau said following the contest. "It was a good feeling to get on the board. Maybe I’ll be able to sleep a little bit better tonight." Comeau has three points in 20 games this season. He has regressed since scoring 24 goals and 46 points in 77 contests in 2010-11, but he was averaging 18:41 minutes that season. He's logging just 10:51 minutes per game in 2013 and unless that changes, he won't have any fantasy value.
Mar 7 - 8:47 AM

Blake Comeau is expected to line up at centre between Jarome Iginla and Curtis Glencross for Sunday's game against Dallas.

Comeau has registered only one assist in 11 games this season, but he'll be given the chance to change that with this opportunity."I’m excited for the challenge," he said. "I don’t think I’m that bad of a player where I think it’s outrageous that I’m playing centre with Jarome and Glennie. I didn’t think of it as a joke at all. I’m not just happy about being on the line. I want to make an impact, and I want to stay there."
Feb 17 - 10:39 AM

Blake Comeau sounds genuinely optimistic about the current state of the labor talks.

"It was definitely a lot easier to get out of bed this morning and get a workout done before a skate," Comeau said Wednesday. That was even before Wednesday night's marathon negotiating session between the players and owners. Anything can happen, but Comeau said that right now "there’s more optimism than there has been throughout the whole process."

Blake Comeau has inked a one-year deal with Calgary worth $1.25 million.

The Flames didn't offer Comeau a qualifying offer prior to Monday's deadline, as they wanted to re-sign him at a lower price from the $2.5 million he made last season. Comeau notched five goals and 15 points in 58 games with the Flames after he was claimed off waivers from the New York Islanders.

Despite not qualifying Blake Comeau, the Flames still hope to re-sign the forward -- just at a cheaper price.

Comeau struggled last year, collecting just five goals and 17 points in 74 games, and general manager Jay Feaster didn't want to bring him back at $2.5 million. "We continue to be cautiously optimistic that we may be able to come to an agreement with Blake prior to him becoming a UFA," Feaster said. "We would very much like to keep Blake."

Blake Comeau did not receive a qualifying offer from the Calgary Flames.

Comeau is now expected to test the unrestricted free agent waters on July 1. He had five goals and 15 points in 74 games between the New York Islanders and Flames in 2011-12.

Blake Comeau, who is scheduled be a restrict free agent this summer, is hoping to have a strong finish to the season.

"I'm 26 years old, I still feel like I'm improving," Comeau said. "There's parts of my game that I can improve. Especially being put on waivers this year, it was very humbling." If the Flames want to keep Comeau, then they need to present him with a qualifying offer of $2.5 million. Otherwise he'll be an unrestricted free agent when the free agent period starts on July 1st. Given that Comeau has just 14 points in 72 games this season, we wouldn't be surprised if he has to look for employment with another team this summer.

Blake Comeau registered an assist in his return from a shoulder injury on Tuesday.

Comeau was out for four straight games. Flames coach Brent Sutter didn't make his decision about Comeau's availability until after the team's warm-up. Comeau has four goals and 12 points in 46 games this season.
