Alexandre Giroux has inked a two-year deal with Dynamo Riga of the KHL.
He appeared in 65 games with Columbus' AHL affiliate in Springfield this past season, in which he picked up 28 goals and 54 points, and in nine contests with the Blue Jackets. Giroux led the AHL in scoring during the 2009-2010 campaign, as a member of the Hershey Bears, with 103 points in 69 contests. Giroux has enjoyed plenty of success at the minor-league level, but he hasn't been able to stick around and produce in the NHL. He has 12 points in 48 career appearances with four different teams. Alexandre Giroux has been sent down to AHL Springfield.

Giroux was a healthy scratch on Saturday, which made him the Blue Jackets' best player in their 9-2 loss to Philadelphia. He has a goal and eight penalty minutes in nine games this season.

Alexandre Giroux will start on the second line Saturday, alongside Antoine Vermette and R.J. Umberger.

The Blue Jackets are placing the 30-year-old winger on a scoring line and giving him every opportunity to succeed at the NHL level as he replaces Cam Atkinson who was sent to the minors. "The area we looked at with Alex is that he’s a big body, a veteran guy, He knows how to play on the walls," coach Scott Arniel said. "He knows how to play the system. With Cam, we’re still teaching some of those things, and he’s going to get good at it. Having that size on the wing is going to probably help us. It’s going to help us around the net. Alex doesn’t need many chances to score goals. He’s proven that." Giroux will look to get Umberger and Vermette going as neither player has a point this season. Giroux is worth looking at in deep leagues as there may no be too many top-six forwards available on the waiver wire.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled Alexandre Giroux from the minors.

Giroux will take the spot of Cam Atkinson in the Columbus lineup. Giroux had a very good training camp but was sent down to the minors as one of the last cuts. He is expected to be in the lineup Saturday. He has little fantasy value at this time despite being a big scorer in the AHL as he is already 30 and has never done much in the NHL.

Alexandre Giroux has been assigned to the minors.

This probably means that Derek MacKenzie will be ready to return from a sprained knee in Friday's opener against Nashville.

Alexandre Giroux might start the season with the Columbus Blue Jackets despite clearing waivers.

The Blue Jackets are waiting to see if Derek MacKenzie (sprained knee) will be available for the season opener. Teams have to submit their rosters by 3pm ET on Wednesday, so we'll know Giroux's fate soon enough. Giroux is a star in the AHL, but he'd likely serve as a fourth liner if he stays with Columbus.

Alexandre Giroux cleared waivers today but remains with the team for the time being.

The high scoring AHL forward has struggled mightily with his consistency at the NHL level but remains with the team for the time being.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have place Alexandre Giroux on waivers.

Giroux is the ultimate AAAA player. He is a great AHL forward but can never seem to make the transition to the NHL. He had a decent preseason, even playing on a line with Jeff Carter and Rick Nash. He must clear waivers in order to be sent back to the AHL.

Alexandre Giroux skated on a line with Jeff Carter and Rick Nash in Sunday's preseason game.

That's a bit of a surprise, seeing as Giroux isn't expected to make the team. He's an amazing scorer at the AHL level, but he's never been able to secure a permanent roster spot with an NHL club. He turned 30 in June, so the odds are stacked against him to ever become an impact player with an NHL club. For what it's worth, Giroux did register an assist on Carter's power-play goal in the first period.

Alexandre Giroux scored an overtime goal in a 4-3 preseason victory against the Washington Capitals.

Giroux is an amazing player at the AHL level, but at the age 30 he's not expected to ever get regular playing time in the NHL. Jeff Halpern and Roman Hamrlik each had a goal and an assist for the Washington Capitals. Maxim Mayorov also scored a goal and recorded an assist with the Blue Jackets.

Center Alexandre Giroux has signed a one-year, two-way contract with Columbus.

The high scoring AHL forward has struggled mightily with his consistency at the NHL level. Should he play with the big club this season he would receive a salary of $825,000, however that number falls to $625,000 if he spends the season in the minors.

The Edmonton Oilers will probably try to re-sign Alexandre Giroux.

Giroux has become a star player at the AHL level and the Oklahoma City Barons could certainly use him, especially with Brad Moran expected to return to Sweden. Giroux will probably continue to put up great numbers in the minors, but it's unlikely that he'll ever secure a spot on an NHL roster.

Alexandre Giroux has been sent down to AHL Oklahoma.

Giroux has 29 goals and 67 points in 63 AHL games this season. He's one of the top AHL's top players, but he'll turn 30 in June and we wouldn't count on him ever having much fantasy value.

The Edmonton Oilers have recalled Alexandre Giroux from the Oklahoma Barons of the AHL.

Giroux was sent down on Monday and quickly recalled. He had a goal and two points in five NHL games this season and led Oklahoma City in points with 67 in 63 games. He will get a chance to play a lot but at age 29 this could be his last opportunity in the NHL.

Alexandre Giroux has been sent down to the minors.

Giroux is one of the AHL's best players, but he's had trouble finding work at the NHL level. He'll turn 30 in June and he's only appeared in 36 NHL contests.
