The Winnipeg Jets have decided to release Ian White from his professional tryout offer.
White is coming off of a rough season and wasn't able to secure a contract over the summer. All the same, White is capable of being a solid defenseman that can contribute offensively. It wouldn't be surprising to see him sign with a team before or shortly after the start of the 2013-14 campaign. Fri, Sep 20, 2013 04:42:00 PM

Ian White is trying to earn his way back into the NHL after a frustrating season with Detroit in 2013.

He produced four points in 25 games and was a healthy scratch for 18 games. He's looking to make the best of his tryout deal with the Winnipeg Jets. "Your mindset's gotta be that you're going to fight for a job, and show you deserve to be here and can help the team win," White said. "I know I have a lot of game left. I'm only 29, and as a D-man, that's kind of where guys start really getting into their comfort zone.

Ian White will attend Winnipeg Jets training camp on a pro tryout offer.

The 29 year-old defenseman will look to rebound after a disappointing 2013 campaign where he tallied just four points in 25 games. The Jets blue line is already pretty crowded with right shooting defensemen but White’s above average puck carrying skills and shot could help the power play.

Look for Ian White to become an unrestricted free agent on July 5.

White was thought to be a vital member of the Red Wings defensive corps going into the 2013 season but was a healthy scratch the last nine games of the regular season and did not play in any of Detroit's 14 playoff games. The defenseman is only 28, so he should find employment somewhere in the NHL as he does have offensive skills that are good enough for regular employment in the league.

The play of defensemen Brendan Smith and Dan DeKeyser have made Ian White and Carlo Colaiacovo superfluous in Detroit.

The Red Wings are excited about their young defensemen and Ian White has now been a healthy scratch the last six games. He has only played in 25 games with two goals and a couple of helpers and it appears that his time with the Red Wings is now short.

Ian White has not requested a trade from the Red Wings.

White, who has two points in 15 contests, will be a healthy scratch for the eighth time in nine games Friday night against the Oilers. "I just want to play,'' White said. "I'm going to come to the rink every day and be a good teammate and try to make my teammates better. I haven't asked for a trade. That's up to management, what personnel they want around and what changes they want to make to the team. So, I just show up and work hard and try to help everyone get better, help this team get wins.''

Ian White expects to be in the lineup against the Oilers Friday night.

He had missed Wednesday's game with some kind of a stomach virus but appears good to go against Edmonton. If you need White, feel free to activate him.

Ian White missed Wednesday's game for personal reasons.

White should be back on Friday. The timing is unfortunate, given that White just got back into the Red Wings' lineup on Sunday after spending six straight games in the press box.

Ian White returned to the Detroit lineup on Sunday after being a healthy scratch for the previous six games.

White saw 16:04 minutes of action and was plus-one. White has struggled offensively this season with only one goal and two points in 15 games after a seven goal, 32 point effort last season, although he did have only eight points in his last 31 games. Keep him reserved for now. Brian Lashoff was a healthy scratch.

Ian White has reached out to Red Wings GM Ken Holland and coach Mike Babcock as he continues to spend games in the press box.

White is scheduled to be a healthy scratch for a fifth straight game on Thursday, but he hasn't asked for a trade. "No, we’re not there yet. We’re not there yet," White said. "But I was just voicing this is game five, and you play so many games in such a fast period that it can get away from you pretty quick. You look, after the weekend, it’ll be seven straight games if you don’t play. And for (Babcock's) sake, where do I fit? And for him, we have (Carlo) Colaiacovo coming back right away, too. So you just try to get a determination of where (Babcock) thinks you fit and where Ken thinks you fit -- now and going forward, as well." White, who is capable of being a solid offensive defenseman, has just two points in 14 games this season.

Ian White is expected to spend his third straight game in the press box on Sunday.

Red Wings coach Mike Babcock doesn't want to alter his lineup after Thursday's 2-1 victory over Thursday. White was surprised when he was initially made a healthy scratch, but he will eventually get another shot with Detroit.

Ian White will be a healthy scratch Wednesday night.

"I am taken aback," White said after learning about the decision. "I didn't see this coming. I feel like I'm playing the same way I've played the last seven years. I work as hard as I can every night. Maybe I don't have the stats this year that I've had in the past, but I feel I'm working hard and playing the same way I always have." The Wings will welcome back Brendan Smith and Kyle Quincey to the lineup against Los Angeles, but their return comes at the expense of White and Kent Huskins. White has posted two points, 16 shots and a minus-2 rating in 14 games this season.

Ian White was back in the Detroit lineup Tuesday after missing five games with a leg laceration.

White's return after only two weeks on the sidelines places him at the short end of his initial timeframe of 2-3 weeks. He played 18:49 in the game and didn't record a shot on goal. Feel free to activate him if you normally would.

Ian White (leg laceration) is hoping to return to action this week and perhaps as early as Tuesday.

White suffered the injury on Jan. 22 and the worry still is that the laceration will re-open if his knee bends too much. The Red Wings are having plenty of trouble this season with most stemming from the retirement of Nicklas Lidstrom, so they could really use White back on the point. He is worth putting in your lineup as soon as he is healthy enough to play.

Ian White (leg) is hoping to return to Detroit's lineup on Tuesday.

White will still miss his fourth straight game on Friday and fifth consecutive contest on Saturday. He had seven goals and 32 points in 77 games last season.
