Patrick Thoresen has signed with Lugano of the Swiss League.

Thoresen's deal is only for one year and has already stated his desire to return to the NHL one day. Strike him from any fantasy list, if you were ever in a league deep enough to consider a fourth liner.

Patrick Thoresen will return to Europe next season.

Thoresen wanted a one-way contract, but wasn't offered one by the Flyers. "I wanted a so-called one-way contract, which is to say the same salary regardless of whether I played in the NHL or a farm team. That makes things more predictable for me and my family," Thoresen said. He has not signed a contract with a European club, but has offers from teams in Switzerland and Sweden.

Patrick Thoresen will be a game-time decision for Game 2 on Sunday afternoon.

There was concern that he may require surgery to remove one of his testicles after blocking a Mike Green slapshot in Friday's Game 1 loss to the Capitals. However, an ultrasound gave him a clean bill of health, and probably a new lease on life, as he was released from the hospital. "I will not be surprised if he plays tomorrow," general manager Paul Holmgren said on Saturday. "...He's a tough kid." Yeah, no kidding.

Patrick Thoresen was taken to the hospital on Friday night after being struck by Mike Green's shot in the groin.

The replay of this incident alone is not for the feint of heart, as it is the type of incident that no man could ever wish upon another. "He’s going to the hospital to get an ultrasound done on his testicles. [If] It’s bad enough they may have to remove one," said Flyers' GM Paul Holmgren. "Right now, we’re not sure how serious it is, but there’s a chance he may need surgery." For his sake, let's hope not. We wish Patrick a speedy recovery.

The Edmonton Oilers must make a decision on Patrick Thoresen by Thursday.

Thoresen was sent to Springfield of the AHL two weeks ago on a conditioning stint. Should the Oilers elect to keep him in the minors, he must pass through waivers. There would be no problem if they decide to recall the Norwegian forward as he would not have to pass through waivers in that situation. Thoresen has no fantasy value.
