Thomas Greiss (lower body) does not have a timetable for his return yet, but coach Doug Weight doesn't believe it will be "too long."
Greiss was placed on injured reserve Monday retroactive to Feb. 16. Christopher Gibson has been recalled on an emergency basis to serve as Jaroslav Halak's understudy. Feb 19 - 11:10 AM

Thomas Greiss is day-to-day with a lower body injury.

Greiss was injured during Friday's 45-save shutout win over Carolina. "He’s pretty good," coach Doug Weight said of Greiss. "We are going to do some evaluating and make a final ruling here moving forward. We’re prepared for anything. Obviously, Bridgeport [the Islanders’ minor-league affiliate] is close, so if we need to do something for [Monday], we’ll be fine." Greiss is 11-7-2 this season with a 3.84 GAA and a .892 save percentage.

Thomas Greiss (undisclosed) did not take part in Sunday's practice.

"He just tweaked something. We're going to have it looked at and make a final ruling here moving forward," coach Doug Weight said. "We're prepared for anything. Obviously Bridgeport is close so if we need to do something for tomorrow we'll be fine." Greiss posted a 45-save shutout on Friday against Carolina, but may have been hurt in the process.
Feb 18 - 12:55 PM

Thomas Greiss turned aside all 45 shots he faced in Friday's 3-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

10 of Greiss' saves came while the Islanders were shorthanded. The shutout was his first of the season. It's also the first time in five games that Greiss holds the opposition to less than four goals. The win improves the Islanders netminders record to 11-7-2 with a 3.84 goals-against-average and a .892 save percentage this season. His fantasy value is limited because Jaroslav Halak appears to be the starting goaltender in Brooklyn for now.
Feb 16 - 10:13 PM

Thomas Greiss will start for the Islanders Friday night.

Greiss has allowed 19 goals over his last four games and yet he's 2-2-0 over that span. He has a 10-7-2 record, 4.03 GAA, and .885 save percentage in 23 contests this season.
Feb 16 - 5:46 PM

Thomas Greiss will get the start in Friday's game against the Detroit Red Wings.

He has a 10-7-2 record with a 3.94 goals-against-average and a .887 save percentage this season. Greiss last played on Jan. 31.
Feb 9 - 6:17 PM

Thomas Greiss allowed five goals on 50 shots in Wednesday's 5-0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

This was Greiss' first appearance since Jan. 15, and the Maple Leafs made sure to keep him busy. The Islanders were never in this one, as they found themselves down 2-0 in the first period and 4-0 in the middle frame. The loss drops Greiss' record to 10-7-2 on the season. He'll enter his next game with a 3.94 goals-against-average and a .887 save percentage. Greiss isn't worth owning in any fantasy format.
Jan 31 - 11:01 PM

Thomas Greiss will get the start in Wednesday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Greiss has a 10-6-2 record with a 3.89 goals-against-average and a .886 save percentage this season. He hasn't played in a game since beating the Canadiens on Jan. 15.
Jan 31 - 6:33 PM

Thomas Greiss is the Islanders' probable starter for Saturday night's contest against the Blackhawks.

Greiss was spectacular in his last start, a 5-4 overtime win over Montreal in which he stopped 52 shots. Jaroslav Halak has lost his last two games allowing eight goals on 75 shots. That sounds like a recipe for a Greiss start to us.
Jan 20 - 11:26 AM

Thomas Greiss turned aside 52 of 56 shots in Monday's 5-4 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens.

The Canadiens were buzzing around the Islanders' net all night and it showed in their shot total. Greiss faced a lot of rubber, but he didn't need to be outstanding in this one. The Isles netminder has a 10-6-2 record with a 3.89 goals-against-average and a .886 save percentage this season. Greiss has given up an alarming 14 goals in his last three full games.
Jan 15 - 11:04 PM

Thomas Greiss will start Monday night versus Montreal.

Greiss last played on Jan. 4 when he surrendered five goals in a 6-4 loss to Philadelphia. He has struggled this season despite having a 9-6-2 record. Greiss owns a 3.89 goals-against average and .882 save percentage in 20 appearances.
Jan 15 - 10:44 AM

Thomas Greiss has started just one of New York's last four games.

Jaroslav Halak has been getting most of the starts for the Islanders. They have both struggled, but Halak has been the better of the two. Greiss has 18 starts compared to Halak's 25. He will be on the bench again Saturday afternoon against Rangers when Halak gets the nod.
Jan 13 - 10:52 AM

Thomas Greiss allowed five goals on 31 shots in a 6-4 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.

The game was lost in the second period for the Islanders when Greiss allowed three goals in a span of 4:48. It's fair to wonder how great this Islanders team could be with competent defensemen and an above average starting goaltender. Greiss has now lost four of his last five starts, dropping his record to 9-6-2 with a 3.89 goals against average and .882 save percentage.
Jan 4 - 11:22 PM

Thomas Greiss will start for the Islanders on Thursday.

Greiss has struggled mightily this season. You would have to go all the way back to Nov. 11 to find the last time he allowed less than three goals in a start. At this point he has a 3.82 GAA and .884 save percentage in 19 contests, though despite that he does have a respectable 9-5-2 record.
Jan 4 - 10:53 AM

Coach Doug Weight still has confidence in his goaltenders even though they have struggled this season.

"Yes I have confidence in my goalies of course I do ... I'm pissed off," said a frustrated and irritated Weight when he defended his netminders against a reporter's question. "They're having a rough time right now. Yes they're struggling and every shot seems like it's perfectly placed; the last two I'm looking at them, I don't think anybody in the world saved them. But it gets in your head and you feel like you can't give any up. They're working." Thomas Greiss has permitted at least three goals in each of his last nine starts and he has one victory in six appearances this month. He has a 3.83 GAA and an .883 save percentage this season. Jaroslav Halak hasn't been much better with a 3.07 GAA and a .903 save percentage.
