Thomas Greiss made 31 saves in a 4-1 loss to the Islanders on Saturday night.

Thomas Greiss is projected to start on Saturday.

Marc-Andre Fleury will play on Friday and the plan right now is for the goaltenders to split those two games. Greiss has a 1.96 GAA and .938 save percentage in three contests this season.
Nov 21 - 12:39 PM

Thomas Greiss made 30 saves in Pittsburgh's 2-1 win against Toronto.

The Penguins jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Cody Franson beat Greiss in the third period. Greiss has been a solid backup goaltender behind Marc-Andre Fleury this season. He's now 2-0-1 with a 1.95 goals-against-average and a .938 save percentage.
Nov 14 - 11:13 PM

Thomas Greiss will play between the pipes on Friday.

It's just Greiss' third start of the season as Pittsburgh has leaned heavily on Marc-Andre Fleury so far. Greiss has a 2.42 GAA and .923 save percentage this season.
Nov 14 - 2:15 PM

Penguins backup goaltender Thomas Greiss was solid Tuesday as he blocked 33 of 34 shots en route to a 4-1 victory over the Wild.

Considering how well Minnesota has played this year it was impressive to see the Penguins manhandle them. If the supporting cast can remain dominant, either Greiss or Marc-Andre Fleury will be in line for a number of easy wins. Greiss's record improves to 1-0-1 with the win while his GAA is 2.43 and his save percentage is .943.
Nov 5 - 1:06 AM

Thomas Greiss will start for Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

Greiss is making just his second start of the season. He turned aside 27 of 31 shots in his first opportunity on Oct. 23.
Nov 4 - 2:32 PM

Thomas Greiss is waiting for his next chance to play in goal.

Greiss gave up four goals 10 days ago to Detroit on 31 shots and with Marc-Andre Fleury shutting out the Kings and the Sabres over the last two games, coach Mike Johnson will continue to go with the hot hand of Fleury.
Nov 2 - 7:38 AM

Thomas Greiss allowed four goals on 31 shots in the Pens' 4-3 loss to the Red Wings on Thursday night.

Greiss nearly had the win sewn up but allowed a goal in the final minute of regulation, and another in the final minute of overtime. The 28-year-old is looking to build off a solid year with the Coyotes last season on a solid team in Pittsburgh.
Oct 23 - 10:46 PM

Thomas Greiss will get the nod for Pittsburgh Thursday night.

He was expected to get his first start with the Penguins this week, as the team plays three times in four nights. Marc-Andre Fleury played in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to Philadelphia.
Oct 23 - 6:58 PM

Thomas Greiss should play this week.

Greiss won't start on Wednesday, but he'll get some playing time on Thursday or Saturday. He hasn't participated in a contest yet this season.
Oct 21 - 2:57 PM

Coach Mike Johnston wants to get Thomas Greiss some playing time early on.

The problem is that the Penguins play only twice in each of the first two weeks and only nine games in the month of October. Greiss beat out Jeff Zatkoff for the backup role behind Marc-Andre Fleury and should see action in 25-30 games this season. He makes a nice handcuff for Fleury as the Penguins starter is prone to periods of tough starts.
Oct 11 - 8:51 AM

Thomas Greiss will be the back up to Marc-Andre Fleury this season.

This was confirmed on Saturday when the Penguins placed last year's back up Jeff Zatkoff on waivers for the purpose of sending him to the minors. Look for Greiss to see action in 25-30 games this season, providing Fleury with some much needed rest.
Oct 5 - 9:41 AM

Newly-acquired Thomas Greiss looked sharp for the Penguins in Tuesday's 2-0 preseason loss to Columbus.

Greiss is locked in a battle with Jeff Zatkoff for the backup spot behind Marc-Andre Fleury and acquitted himself well by stopping 26 of 27 shots in the defeat.
Sep 23 - 9:51 PM

Thomas Greiss is battling Jeff Zatkoff for the backup job to Marc-Andre Fleury in Pittsburgh.

It should be quite the battle and the unfortunate part is that the loser will not necessarily play for the AHL team as both need to clear waivers to play in the AHL. Greiss was signed as a UFA after playing in Phoenix last season while Zatkoff replaced the injured Tomas Vokoun as the backup in Pittsburgh last season. Stay tuned as it should come down to the wire.
Sep 20 - 11:54 AM

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed goaltender Thomas Greiss to a one-year/$1 million deal.

The Penguins just got better in net as Greiss will back up Marc-Andre Fleury with last year's back Jeff Zatkoff moving to the third spot. Greiss was 10-8-5 with the Coyotes as he had a 2.29 GAA and a .920 save percentage. The Penguins will have no problem handing Greiss the reins in net if Fleury slumps at any point in the season.
