Thomas Greiss failed to get his second win of the 2013 season as the Phoenix Coyotes beat his San Jose Sharks 2-1 on Wednesday.
Greiss is 1-4-0 on the season, losing or getting a non-decision in every appearance since he began the campaign with a 24-save shutout on Jan. 26. Greiss has only played in three games since March began. The Sharks might decide to give Antti Niemi another breather, however, as the Finn has played a lot lately. Apr 25 - 1:39 AM

Date:

Thomas Greiss will get the start Wednesday night against the Coyotes.

A day after clinching a playoff spot, Antti Niemi will finally get a break. In five games this season, Greiss is 1-3-0 with a 2.64 goals-against average and .909 save percentage.
Apr 24 - 8:19 PM

The San Jose Sharks have activated Thomas Greiss (neck) off of the injured reserve list.

Greiss has also completed his conditioning stint in the minors. He'll resume his duties as Antti Niemi's understudy, which don't involve much playing time.
Apr 1 - 5:36 PM

Thomas Greiss (neck) has been sent to the minors on a conditioning stint.

Greiss hasn't played since March 6. That's part of the reason Antti Niemi has started in 29 of the Sharks' 33 games, although it helps that Niemi wouldn't have gotten too many breaks either way.
Mar 29 - 2:53 PM

Thomas Greiss (neck) skated with his teammates again on Wednesday.

He has missed the last nine games, but coach Todd McLellan is encouraged by his progress. Alex Stalock will continue to fill in as Antti Niemi's backup in his place.
Mar 27 - 3:59 PM

Thomas Greiss (neck) skated in an optional practice on Sunday.

Greiss was injured on March 6 and has not played since then. Greiss has only played four times this season with all coming during back-to-back games. The Sharks play Wednesday and Thursday and Greiss could see some action if he is ready to return. Greiss is 1-3-0 this season with a 2.79 GAA and a .906 save percentage.
Mar 25 - 9:26 AM

Sharks backup goaltender Thomas Greiss will not join the team for Monday's game in Anaheim, but could be available later in the week.

"He's staying back, getting some therapy, getting some treatments," coach Todd McLellan said. "He'll see some doctors this week, and we'll get a better update as the week goes on." Alex Stalock will continue to serve as Anttii Niemi's caddy in the meantime.
Mar 17 - 8:52 AM

Thomas Greiss is out Saturday with neck soreness.

Greiss has a 2.79 GAA and .906 save percentage in four starts. He sustained the injury during Thursday's contest.
Mar 8 - 4:33 PM

Thomas Greiss was unable to make the most of his fourth appearance of 2013 as the Calgary Flames beat his San Jose Sharks.

Greiss allowed three goals on 25 shots in a 4-1 loss. Greiss is 1-3-0 this season after getting a shutout in his first contest of the season. With Antti Niemi one of the league's biggest workhorses, it's hard to imagine his German backup seeing much time this season.
Mar 7 - 12:50 AM

Thomas Greiss will receive the start in net for the Sharks on Wednesday night.

San Jose played on Tuesday night, so it makes sense that it'd give the backup some time against Calgary. Greiss has a 1-2-0 record with a 2.69 goals-against average and .913 save percentage on the year.
Mar 6 - 8:05 PM

We agree with CSN Bay Area's Kevin Kurz that Wednesday's game in Calgary may be a good opportunity for the Sharks to start backup goalie Thomas Greiss.

San Jose played Tuesday night at home versus Vancouver and Antti Niemi backstopped the team to a 3-2 shootout victory. The Sharks haven't confirmed a starter yet.
Mar 6 - 5:54 PM

Thomas Greiss allowed six goals on 36 shots in the Sharks' 6-2 loss to the Blue Jackets Monday night.

It was a night to forget for the Koln native but Greiss has the potential to help out fantasy owners in this 48-game shortened season. He's an ideal spot starter or even third or fourth goaltender for those of you playing in daily transaction leagues.
Feb 11 - 11:19 PM

Thomas Greiss will probably start on Monday.

Greiss has a 1.01 GAA and .964 save percentage in two starts this season. He's a strong backup, but won't get too much playing time behind Antti Niemi.
Feb 11 - 12:50 PM

Thomas Greiss only allowed two goals on 32 shots but it wasn't enough for the win, as the Sharks lost 2-1 to the Anaheim Ducks.

This was only Greiss's second start of the season, and even though he has only allowed two goals in two games, he won't be stealing many starts away from their number one Antti Niemi.
Feb 5 - 5:10 AM

Thomas Greiss will probably start on Monday.

Greiss was the first goaltender off the ice, which is usually a good indicator of who the starter will be. He earned a shutout on Jan. 26, but hasn't played since.
