Thomas Greiss will get the nod for Pittsburgh Thursday night.

He was expected to get his first start with the Penguins this week, as the team plays three times in four nights. Marc-Andre Fleury played in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to Philadelphia.
Oct 23 - 6:58 PM

Thomas Greiss should play this week.

Greiss won't start on Wednesday, but he'll get some playing time on Thursday or Saturday. He hasn't participated in a contest yet this season.
Oct 21 - 2:57 PM

Coach Mike Johnston wants to get Thomas Greiss some playing time early on.

The problem is that the Penguins play only twice in each of the first two weeks and only nine games in the month of October. Greiss beat out Jeff Zatkoff for the backup role behind Marc-Andre Fleury and should see action in 25-30 games this season. He makes a nice handcuff for Fleury as the Penguins starter is prone to periods of tough starts.
Oct 11 - 8:51 AM

Thomas Greiss will be the back up to Marc-Andre Fleury this season.

This was confirmed on Saturday when the Penguins placed last year's back up Jeff Zatkoff on waivers for the purpose of sending him to the minors. Look for Greiss to see action in 25-30 games this season, providing Fleury with some much needed rest.
Oct 5 - 9:41 AM

Newly-acquired Thomas Greiss looked sharp for the Penguins in Tuesday's 2-0 preseason loss to Columbus.

Greiss is locked in a battle with Jeff Zatkoff for the backup spot behind Marc-Andre Fleury and acquitted himself well by stopping 26 of 27 shots in the defeat.
Sep 23 - 9:51 PM

Thomas Greiss is battling Jeff Zatkoff for the backup job to Marc-Andre Fleury in Pittsburgh.

It should be quite the battle and the unfortunate part is that the loser will not necessarily play for the AHL team as both need to clear waivers to play in the AHL. Greiss was signed as a UFA after playing in Phoenix last season while Zatkoff replaced the injured Tomas Vokoun as the backup in Pittsburgh last season. Stay tuned as it should come down to the wire.
Sep 20 - 11:54 AM

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed goaltender Thomas Greiss to a one-year/$1 million deal.

The Penguins just got better in net as Greiss will back up Marc-Andre Fleury with last year's back Jeff Zatkoff moving to the third spot. Greiss was 10-8-5 with the Coyotes as he had a 2.29 GAA and a .920 save percentage. The Penguins will have no problem handing Greiss the reins in net if Fleury slumps at any point in the season.
Jul 1 - 1:16 PM

Eight teams have contacted Thomas Greiss’ agent so far this offseason, according to Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic.

Greiss’ agent, Ray Petkau, says they are in talks with a few of those teams. Griess, 28, had a solid season backing up Mike Smith, posting a 10-8-5 record with a 2.29 goals-against average and .920 save percentage. The unrestricted free agent could probably handle a bigger workload, and that’s what Greiss probably going to weigh in any contract offer.
Jun 28 - 5:54 PM

Phoenix goalie Thomas Greiss needed to make only 16 saves en route to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Dallas Stars Sunday night.

It was his 10th win of the season, and the final one ever for the Phoenix Coyotes. The franchise will become the Arizona Coyotes for the 2014-15 season. They did not make the playoffs this season. Greiss, backup to Mike Smith, ends the regular season with a record of 9-8-5, a GAA of 2.35 and a save percentage of .920.
Apr 14 - 12:02 AM

Thomas Greiss did his best to prevent it, but the Coyotes dropped a 2-0 decision to the Predators on Thursday night.

Greiss has played well in the absence of starter Mike Smith, but his teammates have stopped scoring and the backup netminder has lost six consecutive decisions. His record now stands at 9-8-5 while his GAA is 2.35 and his save percentage is .920.
Apr 11 - 12:41 AM

Thomas Greiss allowed four goals on 30 shots in Phoenix's 4-3 overtime loss to the Blue Jackets on Tuesday night.

Greiss has not provided adequate relief for the Coyotes since Mike Smith went down, owning a 2-2-4 record and a five game losing skid since taking over the crease. The 28-year-old's strong start keeps his line looking good at a 9-7-5 record with a .920 save percentage and 2.36 goals against average. But Phoenix has lost control of its own playoff destiny with Greiss in goal.
Apr 9 - 12:14 AM

Thomas Greiss still is looking to be a starting goaltender in the NHL.

Greiss is now getting every opportunity to show what he can do as Mike Smith is out of action as the Coyotes head down the stretch. Greiss is 2-2-2 since taking over but he has played very well in the Coyotes cage. Greiss inked a one-year contract with Phoenix in the off-season and is slated to become a UFA at the end of the season. Smith is unlikely to return before the end of the regular season and the Coyotes have faith that Greiss can continue to do the job.
Apr 6 - 9:38 AM

Thomas Greiss was unable to single-handedly slow down the Oilers in Friday's 3-2 shootout loss.

Greiss did his best to carry his team to victory, stopping 24 of 26 shots through 65 minutes of play, but he suffered a defeat nonetheless. His record now stands at 9-7-4 while his GAA is 2.28 and his save percentage is .923. He has been a more-than-adequate replacement for the injured Mike Smith.
Apr 5 - 1:20 AM

Thomas Greiss let in four goals on 32 shots in Phoenix 4-0 loss to Los Angeles Wednesday evening.

Greiss lost his third straight game and the Coyotes could not afford to lose if they want to make it to the playoffs. Greiss now has a 9-7-3 record with a 2.31 goals-against average and .923 save percentage. Greiss will continue to start for the Coyotes as long as Mike Smith is injured.
