Thomas Greiss will probably play between the pipes on Friday.

Jaroslav Halak is dealing with an upper-body injury, otherwise he would be the team's opening game starter. Greiss had a 2.59 GAA and .908 save percentage in 20 contests with the Penguins last season.
Oct 9 - 8:57 AM

Thomas Greiss has inked a two-year, $3 million deal with the New York Islanders.

He will serve as Jaroslav Halak's backup after playing behind Marc-Andre Fleury last season. Greiss had a 9-6-3 record with a .908 save percentage and a 2.59 GAA with the Penguins.
Jul 1 - 12:15 PM

Thomas Greiss, filling in for first-string Pittsburgh goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, didn't have a particularly impressive game Sunday, stopping only 16 of the 20 shots he faced in the Penguins' 4-1 loss to the Flyers in Philadelphia.

Greiss was outshone significantly by Philly goalie Steve Mason, who made 46 saves for the victory. Greiss now has a record of 9-6-3. His save percentage is .908 and his goals-against average is 2.59. The Pens have lost three games in a row and eight games against Philly dating back to last season.
Apr 5 - 4:41 PM

Thomas Greiss will be between the pipes for Pittsburgh when the Penguins visit the Flyers in Philadelphia Sunday afternoon at 12:30 Eastern.

Greiss, who backs up Marc-Andre Fleury, is 9-5-3 with a .913 save percentage and a 2.51 goals-against average this season. He`s not a viable fantasy option because he doesn`t play enough but Fleury`s been having a tough time lately and is clearly in need of a rest. The Penguins have lost two straight coming into the game Sunday and are 3-7-1 in their past 11 games. They have lost seven consecutive games against Philadelphia dating back to last season.
Apr 5 - 12:04 PM

Thomas Greiss beat his former team as the Pittsburgh Penguins topped the Arizona Coyotes 3-2 on Saturday.

Greiss is 9-5-3 with a .913 save percentage and 2.51 GAA this season. He hasn't received the sort of reps to really prove himself in 2014-15 but should be able to land another backup gig this summer.
Mar 28 - 5:03 PM

Thomas Greiss will get the start against the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday afternoon.

Greiss comes in with a 8-5-3 record with 44 goals through 18 games this season. In five career starts versus Arizona, each with San Jose, Greiss is 2-3-0 with 12 goals against on 145 combined shots.
Mar 27 - 10:05 PM

Thomas Greiss was beaten just once on 19 shots Tuesday, but suffered a loss in a 2-0 shutout decision against New Jersey.

Greiss was given the starting assignment after usual number one Marc-Andre Fleury struggled in his last outing and was given a rest. The Pittsburgh backup has received a regular workload throughout the year and now possesses an 8-5-3 record in 16 starts.
Mar 17 - 9:49 PM

Thomas Greiss will get the start against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night.

Greiss comes in with a 8-4-3 with 43 goals against in 17 games this season. He has split his two career starts against the Devils with five goals against, all even strength, on 48 shots.
Mar 17 - 5:07 PM

The Pittsburgh Penguins couldn't provide any goal support to Thomas Greiss in a 2-0 loss to the Boston Bruins on Sunday.

Greiss only allowed one goal on 29 shots (the other was an empty-netter), but that was enough for a Bruins team that has been increasingly stingy lately. Greiss is now 8-4-3 after his three-game winning streak was snapped.
Mar 14 - 3:47 PM

It looks like Thomas Greiss will start for the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Boston Bruins instead of Marc-Andre Fleury on Saturday.

Greiss, 29, is 8-3-3 on the season, including three straight wins. He last played on March 6, stopping 27 out of 29 shots against the Anaheim Ducks.
Mar 14 - 12:34 PM

Thomas Greiss turned away 27 of 29 shots the Ducks sent his way, and was supported by a 4-0 lead as his Penguins defeated the Ducks 5-2 on Friday night.

It was smooth-sailing the whole way through for Greiss, who saw 15 of his shots through the first two periods. The two goals came off a nice rip, and a fluky deflection that caught him out of position. Not too bad for the backup who was making just his 15th appearance of the season. Greiss improves to 8-3-3 with 41 goals against.
Mar 7 - 1:18 AM

Thomas Greiss will play between the pipes on Friday.

Greiss has a 2.82 GAA and .906 save percentage in 14 contests this season. He's won three of his last four games, but he allowed at least three goals in three of those contests.
Mar 6 - 4:47 PM

Thomas Greiss made 21 saves in the Penguins’ 4-2 win over St. Louis on Saturday night.

Greiss gave up both goals later in the third period. He has won three of his past four games, though this is by far his best start of the four. He has a 2.82 goals-against and .906 save percentage this season.
Feb 22 - 12:29 AM

It looks like the Pittsburgh Penguins will start Thomas Greiss against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.

Greiss is 6-3-3 on the season with a .906 save percentage. He won in his last appearance on Feb. 12, stopping 29 out of 33 shots against the Ottawa Senators. The Blues seem likely to give him a serious challenge tonight.
