The San Jose Sharks were shutout by the Washington Capitals 2-0 today.

The early start time appeared to throw the Sharks off because they didn't seem to ever really get into the game. Defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic led the way with five shots on goal but none could get in behind Phil Grubauer. Vlasic has 29 points in 67 games so far this season. The Sharks lost a big opportunity to get some breathing room ahead of the Los Angeles Kings with both of them losing today.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic posted an assist with a plus-1 rating, two blocked shots and a hit in Tuesday's 5-2 victory against the Canadiens.

After three scoreless outings to open the season, Vlasic has posted an assist in each of his past two games. He sees a healthy amount of ice time on the power play, but his largest contribution to the fantasy line is his willingness to step in front of shots. He recorded 146 blocked shots in 75 games in 2016-17.

The San Jose Sharks have re-signed Marc-Edouard Vlasic to an eight-year/$56 million contract.

The deal will take effect at the start of the 2018-19 season. Vlasic is one of the best defensemen in the NHL but only had 28 points in 75 games last season after an eight goal, 39 point effort in 67 games the year before. Look for a 35-40 point season next year for the blueliner and draft him accordingly.

Marc-Andre Vlasic has points in four straight games.

He has a goal and three helpers in that stretch. Vlasic has only 26 points in 72 games, a big drop from last season where he had 39 points in 67 contests. You should be disappointed if you drafted him as he went higher than he should have gone. Look for 30 points and maybe 35 next season and draft him accordingly.
