With only five seconds remaining in regulation, defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic scored to give the San Jose Sharks a 3-2 triumph Monday night against the Jets in Winnipeg.

The game was tied at 2-2 when Vlasic delivered the winner on a slapshot. It was his fifth goal of the season. Brent Burns also scored on a slapshot to open the scoring on a San Jose power play at 2:53 of the first period. That was Burns' 11th goal of the season. Burns also registered his 20th assist of the season on a second-period goal by Melker Karlsson. Karlsson now has three goals. Logan Couture assisted on the goals by Burns and Vlasic and now has 19 on the season while Joe Pavelski assisted on the goals by Karlsson and Vlasic, giving him 15 on the season. The Sharks were playing without one of their leaders, Joe Thornton, who was placed on injured reserve earlier Monday with an upper-body injury.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic (upper body) will be a game time decision on Saturday.

Vlasic sat out Thursday's game and while he was able to practice on Friday, his status is still up in the air. "If I feel great, I'll tell them I feel great and after that, it's out of my hands," Vlasic said. He has three goals and eight points with a plus-12 rating in 30 games this season.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic is considered questionable to play Thursday against Minnesota.

"We'll know more in the morning," coach Todd McLellan said Wednesday. "Good day today. When Pickles came in today, he looked good and felt good." If he isn't ready to play Thursday then it doesn't sound like he will be out for very long.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic left the Sharks' bench in the second period of Tuesday's game with Edmonton and did not return.

Vlasic and Sharks' teammate Mike Brown both left with undisclosed injuries in the second period. For Vlasic it does seem possible that the Sharks are just being cautious with three more games to play still this week. Mike Brown had to be helped off the ice though with an apparent leg injury. We continue to monitor the situation.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic might get a chance to play more with the man advantage in 2014-15.

Vlasic averaged just 42 seconds per game worth of power-play ice time last season. He's emerged as one of the league's top defensemen, but that hasn't translated to standard fantasy leagues because he hasn't stood out offensively. If he starts playing a bigger role with the man advantage than that might change.

Sharks defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic feels he will definitely be 100 percent by the start of training camp.

Vlasic suffered apparent head and knee injuries when he was hit by the Kings Jarret Stoll in the first round of this year's playoffs, but he is recovering nicely. Vlasic confirms the head injury is a thing of the past and believes strongly that a bit of time away will get his knee back into game shape. "It’s a question of time – it’s the exact same injury I had two years ago a the world championships and it takes six to eight weeks to heal," Vlasic said. "If I take care of it now, I should be 100 percent come training camp."

NBC hockey analyst Keith Jones thinks Marc-Edouard Vlasic's injury was a major reason for San Jose's first-round elimination against the Kings.

"The strongest point I can make is that if Marc-Edouard Vlasic didn't get hurt, the Sharks are playing right now," Jones said. "The Bruins' series changed after [Krejci's injury in 2010]. The same thing happened to San Jose. I can't emphasize that enough, that's how important of a player [Vlasic] is to that team." Jones was referring to Philadelphia's rally from a 3-0 series deficit in 2010 versus Boston and how it was eerily similar to what happened to the Sharks. San Jose is thinking about retooling their roster, but Jones still thinks they are top contenders.

Vlasics was injured on Saturday when Jarret Stoll gave him a shot to the head in the first period. Vlasic did not return to the game. "We had a meeting, we had a quick practice – I've got to go deal with that as the next thing, coach Todd McLellan said. "He didn't return after the blow he took to the head from Stoll," coach Todd McLellan said after the game. "He's got an upper body injury. You can call it that." The injury really hurt the Sharks who played the remainder of the game with only five defensemen. Stay tuned.
