Blues defenseman Roman Polak is upset with his play on the eventual game-winning goal for the Kings Friday.
With second remaining in the second period of a 1-1 game, Kings forward Dustin Penner fired a long shot on goal in desperation, but Polak's attempt to block it screened goaltender Brian Elliot and led to the go-ahead marker for Los Angeles. "It was a bad play by me," he said. "There were just two seconds left. I tried to block it and I just got a piece of it." May 11 - 7:49 AM

Roman Polak (knee) will return to the Blues' lineup on Saturday.

Polak doesn't get a lot of points, but he is a great defensive defenseman. "He's a dangerous guy to play against, he's reckless, he's physical and I think we need that in our lineup right now," Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. "We got a little bit away from it and he brings that edge to us. He gives us a real stable third pair, which is exactly what we need."

Roman Polak has left the club in Phoenix to go back to St. Louis to have his sore knee re-evaluated.

The Blues just want to make sure nothing serious is going on in the joint. Polak, who will obviously not play against the Coyotes Sunday, should be considered day-to-day for now.

Roman Polak has been forced to skip practices in the interests of keeping him fresh and likely to rest a suspected injury.

Polak is believed to have sustained the injury on December 27th, but he's playing through it. "We decided after the Detroit game that if we're going to get 100 percent from (Polak) during the games this period of time, we needed to not beat on him," Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. The coach added that he knew Polak wouldn't want to take time off, so Hitchcock didn't make it optional.

The St. Louis Blues have inked Roman Polak to a five-year, $13.75 million contract extension.

The deal will carry an annual cap hit of $2.75 million, which will pay him $2 million in 2011-12, $2.45 in 2012-13 and $3.1 million in each of the final three years. "We're really excited about where he's at in his career," said GM Doug Armstrong. "And to have him locked up for what we believe is the prime of his career, it's an exciting time for our organization and an exciting time for Roman." Polak had 12 points, 33 penalty minutes and a minus-4 rating this past campaign, but he missed 24 games with a severed tendon in his right wrist. Even if he stays healthy in 2011-12, he likely won't have much of an impact from a fantasy standpoint.

Roman Polak logged 22:29 minutes of ice time in his fourth game since returning from a severed tendon in his wrist.

Polak was sidelined for 24 games because of the wrist injury. "I'm getting there," Polak said. "Better timing, better reads, play more minutes, more games. ... every game, I'm getting better. I felt good the first game, too, but just mentally I wasn't ready. I didn't make good reads, but I'm getting there." Polak registered an assist in his first game back from the ailment, but he's been held off the soresheet in his last three contests.
