Carl Soderberg admitted that going to Colorado was an easy decision after the Bruins told him they wouldn't bring him back next season.
"I was waiting for Boston to come back to me," Soderberg, a casualty of the Bruins' salary cap problems, said in a phone interview from Sweden. "When they didn't have room for me, my agent told me Colorado was interested in me. There was no doubt for me. Colorado is a great hockey club. I said go ahead, and then everything went really fast." The Colorado Avalanche have signed Carl Soderberg to a five-year, $23.75 million contract.

Boston shipped Soderberg, who was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, to Colorado for a 2016 sixth round pick. The Avalanche are getting a solid center that scored 13 goals and 44 points in 82 contests with the Bruins in 2014-15. He excelled in Sweden for years before making the leap to North America and though he only has two full NHL seasons under his belt, he'll turn 30 in October. Although getting Soderberg is a plus, Colorado certainly paid a high price for him and that deal might be to the Avalanche's determent in the last year or two.

Colorado has acquired Carl Soderberg from Boston in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.

That selection was actually previously acquired from the Bruins in the Max Talbot deal. Soderberg notched 13 goals and 31 assists in 82 games with Boston last season. He is eligible for unrestricted free agency, but now the Avalanche can try to negotiate a contract with him before July 1.

Newly-appointed Bruins' GM Don Sweeney confirmed that Carl Soderberg's return to Boston is highly unlikely.

Well if the GM goes public and says a player is highly unlikely to re-sign you can almost bank on that turning out to be the case. After registering 44 points and playing fine two-way hockey, Soderberg will be much in demand. The Bruins are counting on Ryan Spooner to be one of their top three pivots next season and are hoping Finnish forward Joonas Kemppainen will be a suitable replacement on the roster for Soderberg at a fraction of the price.

The Boston Bruins are unlikely to re-sign Carl Soderberg.

Soderberg is a scheduled to become a free-agent on July 1st. He scored a respectable 13 goals and 44 points during the 2014-15 season, but he faded badly down the stretch. Teams are always looking to add depth at center, so Soderberg should have several suitors if he does indeed hit free agency.
Jun 7 - 10:49 AM

Carl Soderberg, one of Boston's five unrestricted free agents, has stated that staying in Boston is his first preference.

Soderberg had a nice season as the Bruins' third-line center (tied for 3rd in team scoring with 44 points) and will likely cost the team more than they are willing to spend ($3-4 million per season). There may also not be a spot for Soderberg given the emergence of Ryan Spooner and with both Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci ahead of him on the center depth chart. Our best guess is that despite Soderberg's desire to remain in Beantown, he signs with another team for two years and $6 million.
Apr 18 - 8:48 AM

Carl Soderberg is one of Boston's five unrestricted free agents this summer.

He had 27 points in the first few months of the season, but his production dipped afterward. Ryan Spooner's emergence in the second half may make Soderberg expendable.
Apr 13 - 10:12 AM

Carl Soderberg’s goal and assist on Thursday night helped the Bruins grind out a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

The 29-year-old now has a pretty four-game point streak going, with two goals and four assists in that span. In total, Soderberg has 13 goals and 42 points in 78 games this season.
Apr 2 - 10:52 PM

Carl Soderberg snapped his 24-goal goalless slump on Thursday night.

He scored just 59 seconds into the first period to tie the game at 1-1. It was a quick response for the Bruins after Kyle Turris opened the scoring 19 seconds into the match. Soderberg added an assist in what would become a wild 6-4 loss to the Senators.
Mar 20 - 7:57 AM

Carl Soderberg had a great chance to end his goalless drought, but he misfired on an empty net from the neutral zone on Tuesday night.

He hasn't found the back of the net for 20 consecutive matches. Soderberg has contributed just five assists during that time. He started the year as one of the team's most consistent offensive performers, but he's been ice cold offensively for the past few months.
Mar 11 - 10:56 AM

Although he has played well in Boston's last two games, Carl Soderberg's goaless streak is still intact.

The Swedish foreward has not scored a goal in 15 games. With David Krejci sidelined for six weeks, the Bruins are hoping Soderberg can supply a little scoring punch. To date, it hasn't happened. We expect Soderberg to break his streak any game now so long as he continues to play well with Loui Eriksson and Daniel Paille.
Feb 28 - 9:27 AM

Carl Soderberg picked up an assist Tuesday night.

Daniel Paille was added to a line with Soderberg with Loui Eriksson and he scored Boston's only goal in a 2-1 loss to Vancouver. Soderberg didn't have a point in his previous seven games. He hasn't scored a goal since Jan. 17 and the Bruins need much more from him with David Krejci out of the lineup.
Feb 25 - 9:47 AM

Carl Soderberg hasn't found the back of the net in his past 11 games.

He also has failed to record a point in his last five matches. Soderberg has been mentioned as a possible trade candidate, but he isn't helping his value on the market right now.
Feb 19 - 10:12 AM

Carl Soderberg won't be suspended for his hit on Blue Jackets' forward Matt Calvert.

Soderberg wasn't penalized on the play, but Jackets coach Todd Richards was outspoken about the hit in his post-game press conference. Calvert stayed in the game and eventually scored the game-winner. Bruins' forward Brad Marchand was suspended for two games because of a slew foot earlier in the week.
Jan 18 - 12:07 PM

Carl Soderberg scored the only goal for the Bruins in their 3-1 loss to the Blue Jackets on Saturday night.

Soderberg’s 10th of the season came 11:34 into the game via assists from Loui Eriksson and Chris Kelly. Soderberg has been a very effective player for the Bruins, and should be able to top his highs of 16 goals and 48 points set last season. He has 30 points thus far. Dougie Hamilton had four penalty minutes in the loss.
