Wheeler compiled 11 assists during that span, including six helpers in the Western Conference Final against Vegas. He didn't pick up a point in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Golden Knights, though. The top line of the Jets combined for four goals and 12 points in Vegas' five-games series victory.

Wheeler helped set up both of Mark Scheifele's tallies in the second and third periods. The Jets captain finished the night with an even rating, two penalty minutes, three shots on goal and four hits in 20:35 of ice time. The 31-year-old now has three goals and a league-high 17 assists in 15 games this postseason. The Jets now find themselves down 2-1 in this best-of-seven series. It's the first time they trail in a series in 2018. Game 4 will be played in Vegas on Friday night.

Blake Wheeler registered three assists in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final.

Wheeler set up two of the three goals that Winnipeg scored in the first eight minutes of the opening frame. Those were scored by Dustin Byfuglien and Patrik Laine (power play). The Jets captain also helped Mark Scheifele's power-play tally in the second frame to extend Winnipeg's lead to 4-1 at the time. Wheeler finished the night with a minus-1 rating and two shots on goal in 17:59 of ice time. Wheeler picked up the primary assist on Mark Scheifele's second-period goal that gave the Jets a 3-1 lead at the time and he also helped set up Scheifele's empty-netter late in the third frame. Blake Wheeler has been chosen as a finalist for the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award.

The award is presented "to the NHL player who exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team on and off the ice during the regular season and who plays a leading role in his community growing the game of hockey." Wheeler had a great season on the ice with a personal best 91 points in 81 contests. Off the ice, he serves as an ambassador for the True North Youth Foundation in a variety of programs. Deryk Engelland of the Vegas Golden Knights and Philadelphia's Wayne Simmonds are the other finalists.
