The Winnipeg Jets lost all five games of their road trip.

The Jets began their road trip on Nov. 17 at Philadelphia. They lost that game and then dropped decisions in Boston, Carolina, Minnesota and Nashville. At the start of the trip, they were in second place in their division, but now they're out of a playoff spot. "When you're in the midst of a four-game losing streak, you look to your leaders to pull you out of it and that wasn't the game we needed from us," Blake Wheeler said after the loss to Nashville on Friday. "It starts with me. I'm the leader of this team and I need to be better when we're going through a tough time like this. It wasn't good enough."

The Jets opened the scoring, when Shawn Matthias found the back of the net four minutes into the game, but Carolina responded by scoring four unanswered goals to go up 4-1. That's when Winnipeg went to work. Wheeler scored a shorthanded goal in the third period to cut the deficit to 4-2 and he picked up the primary assist on Matthieu Perreault's game-tying goal with 1:29 left in regulation. In the extra frame, Wheeler picked up the only assist on Mark Scheifele's game-winning goal.

Blake Wheeler, new cpatain of the Winnipeg Jets, picked up a goal and an assist in a 4-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators in an exhibition game Monday night.

Nikolaj Ehlers also contributed a goal and an assist to the Jets. Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor potted the other Winnipeg goals. Scoring for Ottawa were Ryan Dzingel and Tom Pyatt. Michael Hutchinson recorded the victory in goal for Winnipeg, saving 27 of the 29 shots he faced. Andrew Hammond also had a strong game in net for Ottawa, making 29 saves on 32 Winnipeg shots.

The Winnipeg Jets have named Blake Wheeler as their new captain.

The last captain, Andrew Ladd, was traded to Chicago before the trade deadline and signed with the New York Islanders this off-season. Wheeler has been with the organization for the last seven years. The 30-year-old finished sixth in league scoring last year with 78 points. Dustin Byfuglien and Mark Scheifele will serve as the alternate captains. "For me, this is obviously a huge honor," said Wheeler. "I really look forward to being a leader on this's not just going to be us three, we have a great group of men in our room.

Wheeler snapped a shot at 3:07 of the overtime on a two-on-one break that trickled in off Gibson and turned into his 24th goal of the season. That's goals in three straight games and five in the last five games overall for the speedster. He's having a magical career year in the midst of an ugly season for the Jets. His 74 points in 80 games has eclipsed his 69 points he had in the 2013/14 campaign.
