James Sheppard (knee) isn't expected to be on the sidelines for long.
The Sharks wouldn't provide a more specific timetable though, so it's not clear if Sheppard is in serious danger of missing the start of the regular season. For now, he's skating on his own and is strengthening his leg muscles in preparation for doing more intensive drills. Sep 19 - 11:10 AM

James Sheppard is projected to start training camp on the sidelines after undergoing offseason knee surgery.

Sheppard will undergo a physical examination on Thursday, so the Sharks will learn more about his status at that time. He inked a one-year, $1.3 million contract with San Jose over the summer.
Sep 16 - 10:49 AM

James Sheppard's role with the San Jose Sharks is up in the air heading into training camp.

Sheppard played well at center after the Olympic break but struggled on the wing before that. The Sharks may want to move Joe Pavelski to the third line spot and if so, Sheppard will be back on the wing or battling Andrew Desjardins for the fourth line center's job. No matter where he plays, his fantasy value is negligible.
Sep 13 - 9:50 AM

James Sheppard is still upbeat about the San Jose Sharks' chances of winning the Stanley Cup in the near future.

The Sharks management seems to be pushing for a more long-term strategy, but Sheppard expects the team to bounce back after blowing a 3-0 series lead to Los Angeles in the playoffs. "It was important to me stay in San Jose because we have all the ingredients for a championship team," Sheppard said. "Players, coaching, organization and of course the fans. After learning an important lesson last year, I think we are in a position to accomplish what we want, and that is to win." He inked a one-year, $1.3 million extension with the Sharks this summer.

James Sheppard's newly inked one-year contract is worth $1.3 million.

Sheppard made $830,000 last season. He's a bottom-six forward that recorded four goals and 20 points in 67 games. He should put up similar offensive numbers in 2014-15.

Apr 18 - 10:32 AM

Todd McLellan is not happy with the play of his third line of late.

The line usually is centered by James Sheppard. "That third group with Shep and whoever is playing with him – Tommy Wingels, or Matt Nieto, or whoever else is on that wing – has to elevate their game, and their level of play to make a difference," McLellan said. "They don't have to score every night, they don't have to carry the team, but their minutes have to be difference-making minutes. I think they can be better in that area." The Sharks enter the final week of the season in second place in the Pacific division and that is likely where they will finish.
Apr 8 - 11:06 AM

James Sheppard is OK after an injury scare during the second period of Saturday's game against Colorado.

His left leg/knee collided heavily into the boards. "I didn't want to stay on the ice, so I was able to get up on that knee. After that, I knew it was OK," Sheppard said. "You never know what it is, and I've had so many different feelings with that knee. I was worried for a good 10 seconds. After that, it was almost like nothing happened." He has three goals and 11 assists in his past 18 games. His success on the third line has allowed the Sharks to play Joe Pavelski on the top line as a winger.
Mar 31 - 6:25 PM

James Sheppard had a goal in San Jose's 2-1 shootout loss to Calgary Monday evening.

Sheppard scored in his second straight game and he now has four goals with 13 assists in 58 games this season. Defensemen Dan Boyle and Matt Nieto assisted the goal. There was some bad news for the Sharks when Logan Couture left the ice in the second period and did not return. The Sharks will play tonight against Edmonton so stay tuned about Couture's injury.
Mar 25 - 3:41 AM

Jan 16 - 4:31 PM

After being a healthy scratch in his last two games, James Sheppard got into a fight in his return to the lineup Saturday.

Sheppard played an even ten minutes Saturday and was minus-one in addition to having fisticuffs with Kevin Klein early in the third period. He has little-to-no fantasy value with only one goal, five points, a minus-two rating and 19 penalty minutes in 27 games.
