Patrik Berglund (upper body) practiced Monday alongside David Backes and T.J. Oshie, but he's still listed as day-to-day.

He didn't play Saturday night after he received a slash the Blues' season opener last Thursday versus the New York Rangers. Coach Ken Hitchcock liked what he saw from the Berglund-Backes-Oshie combination and there likely to play together when Berglund is able to return. St. Louis doesn't play until Thursday versus Los Angeles, so he has some more time to make himself available.

He sustained an upper-body injury in Thursday's contest and didn't practice Friday but appears good to go Saturday against the Flames. Berglund was playing on the Blues' first line alongside David Backes and T.J. Oshie so make sure he is active.

Berglund didn't have a successful transition from center to the wing last season, but the Blues feel it was because he wasn't given a chance to solidify himself anywhere. Perhaps a move alongside a pair of talented players will help in that regard.

Patrick Berglund scored a goal and added an assist for the Blues in Monday's 4-3 preseason loss to Dallas.

Fresh off signing a new three year pact, Berglund looked good in his preseason debut. Defensemen Ian Cole and Ryan Whitney also tallied for the Blues in the losing effort while Brian Elliott and Niklas Lundstrom shared goaltending duties.

St. Louis has signed Patrik Berglund to a three-year deal worth $11.1 million.

His new contract will carry an average annual value of $3.7 million. The Blues have a lot of faith in Berglund and they will be looking for more from him next season. "I don't think Patrik was over the moon with his season," GM Doug Armstrong said recently. "Moving from centering to wing, he never really solidified his spot anywhere on our team. We need more from him and he probably needs more from us." He accounted for 14 goals and 32 points in 78 games last campaign. His name has surfaced in trade rumors of late, as St. Louis looks for a star second-line center.

Patrik Berglund logged just 11:01 of ice time in his return to the lineup on Monday night in Game 3.

He played with Ryan Reaves and Brenden Morrow in the contest. "You're walking into a hornets' nest and that's why we're starting him a little bit on the lower side of the roster, to see where he's at from being able to keep up mentally," coach Ken Hitchcock said. "I think the first game back for [T.J. Oshie] was really rich, walking into something like that. We expect the same for Bergy." Berglund won 5-of-8 faceoffs and finished with a minus-1 rating in the Blues' 2-0 loss to Chicago.

Not good news for an already injury-plagued roster. Judging by Blues' coach Ken Hitchcock's reaction, Berglund will not play Sunday against Detroit and may in fact not be ready for the playoffs. Stay tuned for further updates.
