St. Louis has signed Patrik Berglund to a three-year deal worth $11.1 million.
His new contract will carry an average annual value of $3.7 million. The Blues have a lot of faith in Berglund and they will be looking for more from him next season. "I don't think Patrik was over the moon with his season," GM Doug Armstrong said recently. "Moving from centering to wing, he never really solidified his spot anywhere on our team. We need more from him and he probably needs more from us." He accounted for 14 goals and 32 points in 78 games last campaign. His name has surfaced in trade rumors of late, as St. Louis looks for a star second-line center. Jun 26 - 6:02 PM

"You're walking into a hornets' nest and that's why we're starting him a little bit on the lower side of the roster, to see where he's at from being able to keep up mentally," coach Ken Hitchcock said. "I think the first game back for [T.J. Oshie] was really rich, walking into something like that. We expect the same for Bergy." Berglund won 5-of-8 faceoffs and finished with a minus-1 rating in the Blues' 2-0 loss to Chicago.

As long as I keep going and competing, especially on every shift. I have to do a good job defensively. I'll work as hard as I can to make that happen. Obviously it was nice that it paid off a little bit." He has generated only 11 goals and 27 points in 58 games this season, but it looks like he could finish the year on a positive note.
