Semyon Varlamov (groin) has been moved to injured reserve.
Colorado needed the roster spot to call up defenseman Karl Stollery. Varlamov made some progress on Wednesday from his groin injury when he faced some shots in the morning. He's still day-to-day. Nov 26 - 3:30 PM

Semyon Varlamov (groin) didn't practice Monday.

Coach Patrick Roy said the team will be cautious with Varlamov. He missed about a week with a groin injury last month. Varlamov has had a rough season, especially compared to last year, but he had been playing better prior to getting injured.

Nov 24 - 5:45 PM

Semyon Varlamov (groin) isn't going on the injured reserve list at this time.

The Avalanche are hoping that Varlamov will be able to return to the lineup in the very near future. He won't be the starter on Thursday though.
Nov 18 - 3:18 PM

Semyon Varlamov is day-to-day with a groin injury.

Varlamov missed three games earlier this season with a groin issue, so the fact that he's back on the sidelines is particularly troubling. For what it's worth, Varlamov also dealt with groin injuries in 2009 and 2010, so this isn't an entirely new problem for him. He has a 2.95 GAA and .918 save percentage in 13 games this season.
Nov 18 - 12:33 PM

Semyon Varlamov sticked aside 23 shots in the Avalanche’s 3-2 win over the Devils on Saturday night.

Varlamov gave up one early in the first and the second midway through the third, giving the Devils a brief 2-1 lead. He now has two straight wins after going four in a row without a victory. Despite the lack of wins (4-5-4), the most important rate stat remains strong: .918 save percentage. The goals against (2.95) is a factor of some poor defense and possession from Colorado.
Nov 15 - 9:41 PM

Semyon Varlamov will get the start Saturday night against the Devils.

Not a big surprise. Varlamov is coming off a 4-3 shootout win over the Rangers and is a must start Saturday night.

Nov 15 - 12:28 PM

Semyon Varlamov won his first game of November on Thursday night, a 4-3 shootout victory over the New York Rangers.

The 26-year-old stopped 30 shots in the win, improving his record to 3-5-4 with a .918 save percentage and 3.03 goals against average. The Avalanche are still in the process of re-discovering the success of last year's division title, and until they do, Varlamov is not going to put up the same elite numbers he did in 2013-14.
Nov 13 - 10:41 PM

Semyon Varlamov will start for Colorado on Thursday versus the Rangers.

The Avalanche rank 29th in the league in shots allowed per game (35.8) and they haven't provided their goaltenders with much offensive support either. Varlamov's numbers have suffered as a result. He owns a 2-5-4 record along with a .918 save percentage and a 3.05 GAA.

Nov 13 - 11:38 AM

Colorado netminder Semyon Varlamov had a night to forget Tuesday as he allowed six goals on 46 shots in a 6-0 defeat to the Islanders.

Varlamov's teammates did him no favors by ceding nearly 50 shots to the Isles, which has become a serious issue for the struggling Avs. The Colorado goaltender now rides a four-game winless streak and possesses a 2-5-4 mark on the season. His 3.05 GAA is a dreadful one, but his .918 save percentage is respectable, proving that he's been facing a tougher-than-normal workload.
Nov 11 - 10:29 PM

Semyon Varlamov will be between the pipes for Colorado on Tuesday in Long Island.

This shouldn't come as much of a surprise, but the Vezina Trophy finalist has been on the bench in Colorado's last two games. "The plan was to play Reto against Philly and not against Toronto," Roy said. "And after discussion with Francois (Allaire), we thought Varly had a lot of shots against Vancouver and might have been a little tired." Varlamov is a workhorse goaltender and should be well-rested going forward.

Nov 9 - 11:02 AM

Semyon Varlamov stopped 32-of-37 shots in 5-2 loss to Vancouver on Tuesday.

Everything was looking good for Varly until the last few seconds of the second period when the flood gates were opened. The Canucks scored five straight unanswered, including four in the third period alone. Can't really hang Varlamov on this loss though as the Canucks took it to the Avalanche in just about all facets of the game. The Avs' starting goalie still has a great save percentage of .925 despite his team struggling to defend on most nights this season.
Nov 5 - 12:31 AM

Semyon Varlamov allowed three goals on 33 shots in Colorado’s 3-2 loss to Anaheim on Sunday night.

Varlamov has now lost four of his last five starts (1-1-3). The 26-year-old Russian is having a good season statistically, but his teammates are having a hard time scoring goals. The Avs have scored three goals or more in just four of 13 games this season. Varlamov only has two wins in 2014-15, but his fantasy owners shouldn’t abandon ship just yet.
Nov 2 - 10:49 PM

Semyon Varlamov will get the start Sunday against Anaheim.

He was in goal for the Avs' 3-2 shootout loss to St. Louis Saturday night but notwithstanding games in back-to-back nights Colorado coach Patrick Roy is going right back to his workhorse goalie Sunday evening.
Nov 2 - 12:24 PM

Semyon Varlamov sticked aside 27 shots in the Avalanche’s 3-2 shootout loss to the Blues on Saturday night.

Varlamov gave up both goals to fellow Russian Vladimir Tarasenko. Stay the course here. Varlamov boasts a 2.42 goals-against average and .934 save percentage. If he continues to perform this well, the wins -- 2-2-4 on the year — will come.
Nov 2 - 12:11 AM

Semyon Varlamov will likely get the start Saturday night against the Blues.

This is a big game for both teams and we would be shocked if Avs' coach Patrick Roy would not turn to his workhorse starter.
