He will be gunning for a very impressive 42nd win which will extend the team record he set Thursday night. Execept for some personal problems with his girlfriend that led to charges that were utlimately dropped, Varlamov has had a dream season under Patrick Roy in 2013-14.
Apr 12 - 12:56 PM

Semyon Varlamov broke Patrick Roy's single-reason win record for the Avalanche with his 41st victory Thursday night.

Colorado's current bench boss had the previous record at 40, which he set during the 2000-01 campaign. "I'm excited about it, I'm not going to lie," he said. "I just want to say thanks to my team because without them, I can't break that record. It's a big deal for me."

Semyon Varlamov may get the nod for Colorado in Sunday's regular season finale after all.

Apr 9 - 9:23 AM

Coach Patrick Roy plans to give Semyon Varlamov the last two games of the regular season off.

That would put Reto Berra in goal against San Jose on Friday and Jean-Sebastien Giguere against Anaheim on Sunday. Giguere was also planned to start Tuesday's game in Edmonton, so Varlamov may face Vancouver on Thursday in his last game of the regular season.

Apr 7 - 4:28 PM

Goalie Semyon Varlamov turned aside 30 shots in the Colorado Avalanche's 3-2 shootout loss to the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins Sunday night.

The loss ended the Avalanche's winning streak at six games. Coupled with the Chicago Blackhawks' 4-2 win against the St. Louis Blues earlier Sunday, the Avalanche's second-place lead on Chicago in the Central Division was shaved to one point (107-105). Colorado (50-21-7) has one game in hand on Chicago (45-19-15) and will play all four of its remaining games on the road. Varlamov now has a GAA of .241 and a save percentage of .927.

Apr 6 - 12:43 PM

Look for Semyon Varlamov to play between the pipes on Sunday.

That was the original plan and we doubt Avalanche coach Patrick Roy is going to deviate from it after Varlamov's 31-save shutout on Saturday. Varlamov has a 2.42 GAA and .927 save percentage in 61 games this season.
