A jury sided with Semyon Varlamov on Tuesday in a lawsuit filed by his former girlfriend.

The Avalanche goaltender was awarded $126,000. Varlamov's lawyers said in a statement that Evgeniya Vavrinyuk's claims were "groundless and completely unsupported" but her lawyer intends to appeal the decision and ask for another trial. Varlamov is expected to practice with the Avalanche on Wednesday, but it hasn't been decided yet who will start Thursday's match versus Dallas. Don't be surprised if it is Calvin Pickard.

Closing arguments for the civil lawsuit against him by his former girlfriend are expected to be heard Tuesday and the case would go to the jury after that. Semyon Varlamov told the team's managers that his former girlfriend hit him, which was part of Colorado head coach Patrick Roy's testimony on Thursday.

Roy testified Thursday that Varlamov told him that Evgeniya Vavrinyuk accused him of being with another woman. "When he gave us his side, we were satisfied with his story because he had marks and we felt he was telling the truth," Roy said.
