Semyon Varlamov is out again with a groin injury.

He has missed nine games on two occasions this season due to a groin issue. Varlamov re-injured his groin at practice. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Dec 8 - 2:44 PM

Semyon Varlamov was pulled after giving up five goals on 30 shots in Friday's 6-2 loss to Winnipeg.

The 26-year-old was pulled in the third period after Bryan Little made it 5-1. Reto Berra entered the game in relief of the Russian netminder. Varlamov has struggled in his two starts since returning from a groin injury. He is now 4-6-5 with a 3.22 goals-against-average and a .909 save percentage. The Avalanche have dropped three consecutive games.
Dec 5 - 11:28 PM

Semyon Varlamov will officially be between the pipes for the Avs in Winnipeg.

Colorado trails Winnipeg by six points in both the Central and for the second Wild Card slot. Needless to say, each game is getting bigger and bigger as the season carries on.

Dec 5 - 7:34 PM

Semyon Varlamov was only able to stop 21-25 in Calgary on Thursday night as Colorado fell 4-3 in overtime.

Varlamov didn't get a lot of help defensively. Dennis Wideman beat Max Talbot to the front of the net to make it 1-0, then later tied it in the dying minutes through multiple screen. In fact, Varly was playing the percentages by shifting to the middle of the net on the game-tying shot. Sure he could have, perhaps even should have played better, but where's the help?
Dec 5 - 1:20 AM

Semyon Varlamov will be between the pipes for Colorado on Thursday in his return to the lineup.

"I feel good. I'm 100 percent," Varlamov said. "I'm ready to play. I've been working hard the last 10 days on the ice." He has been sidelined since Nov. 15 with a groin injury. Coach Patrick Roy said that Varlamov will likely start Friday's game versus Winnipeg as well.

Dec 4 - 12:51 PM

Semyon Varlamov (groin) is expected to return on Thursday, according to Avalanche coach Patrick Roy.

Varlamov should obviously get activated off of the injured reserve list in the near future if that's the case. He hasn't played since Nov. 15.
Dec 2 - 2:17 PM

Semyon Varlamov will not make a return to Colorado's lineup on Monday.

Some believed that Varlamov would be in goal against Montreal on Monday, but it will be Calvin Pickard who starts. Varlamov participated in Sunday's optional skate, but coach Patrick Roy wants him to get a full practice under his belt before he returns. There's a good chance he plays on December 4th against Calgary.

Nov 30 - 3:34 PM

Semyon Varlamov (groin) will likely return to the Avalanche's lineup on Monday.

It's not clear if Varlamov will actually start on Monday or if he'll spend a game on the bench first. He hasn't played since Nov. 15.
Nov 28 - 3:00 PM

Semyon Varlamov (groin) has been moved to injured reserve.

Colorado needed the roster spot to call up defenseman Karl Stollery. Varlamov made some progress on Wednesday from his groin injury when he faced some shots in the morning. He's still day-to-day.

Nov 26 - 3:30 PM

Semyon Varlamov (groin) didn't practice Monday.

Coach Patrick Roy said the team will be cautious with Varlamov. He missed about a week with a groin injury last month. Varlamov has had a rough season, especially compared to last year, but he had been playing better prior to getting injured.

Nov 24 - 5:45 PM

Semyon Varlamov (groin) isn't going on the injured reserve list at this time.

The Avalanche are hoping that Varlamov will be able to return to the lineup in the very near future. He won't be the starter on Thursday though.
Nov 18 - 3:18 PM

Semyon Varlamov is day-to-day with a groin injury.

Varlamov missed three games earlier this season with a groin issue, so the fact that he's back on the sidelines is particularly troubling. For what it's worth, Varlamov also dealt with groin injuries in 2009 and 2010, so this isn't an entirely new problem for him. He has a 2.95 GAA and .918 save percentage in 13 games this season.
Nov 18 - 12:33 PM

Semyon Varlamov sticked aside 23 shots in the Avalanche’s 3-2 win over the Devils on Saturday night.

Varlamov gave up one early in the first and the second midway through the third, giving the Devils a brief 2-1 lead. He now has two straight wins after going four in a row without a victory. Despite the lack of wins (4-5-4), the most important rate stat remains strong: .918 save percentage. The goals against (2.95) is a factor of some poor defense and possession from Colorado.
Nov 15 - 9:41 PM

Semyon Varlamov will get the start Saturday night against the Devils.

Not a big surprise. Varlamov is coming off a 4-3 shootout win over the Rangers and is a must start Saturday night.
