Semyon Varlamov (groin) has been activated off injured reserve and is ready to play Friday night against Vancouver.
"I've had four good days on the ice, so feel ready to go. The pain (went) away," said Varlamov, who will be looking to get his first win of the year. Colorado hasn't gotten off to a good start and Varlamov's numbers have suffered as a result. He has a 0-2-1 record to go with a .910 save percentage and a 3.80 goals-against average. His numbers should improve dramatically, but recapturing the success he had in 2013-14 may prove to be difficult. Oct 24 - 11:01 AM

Semyon Varlamov said he'll be good to go Friday against Vancouver after missing the past three games with a groin injury.

He fully participated in Thursday's practice. Take him off injured reserve if you haven't already done so and get him back in your lineup.

Semyon Varlamov (groin) will be back in Colorado's crease on Friday against Vancouver.

The Avalanche will go with Reto Berra, if he's ready, on Tuesday versus Florida, but he can't play then Calvin Pickard will probably get the nod. Varlamov has missed the past two games with a groin injury.
Oct 20 - 2:50 PM

Semyon Varlamov (groin) is likely to return to practice Monday and could play against the Canucks on Friday, according to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.

Varlamov is dealing with a groin injury and was placed on the injured reserve, but it wasn’t expected to be a long stay. The 26-year-old has a 3.80 goals-against average and .910 save percentage this season.
Oct 18 - 9:38 PM

Well there you have it, Colorado has placed Semyon Varlamov (groin) on injured reserve.

Varlamov skated Thursday morning and it was revealed after the session that he had a slight groin injury. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Oct 16 - 5:38 PM

According to Mike Chambers, the Avalanche may place Semyon Varlamov on injured reserve if he isn't 100 percent to play Thursday night.

Colorado's PR passed along the information to him. This situation is a little strange and it's still unclear who their starter will be for Thursday's game in Ottawa. It suggests that Varlamov's slight groin injury may be worse than we know, but it continues to leave the possibility open that he may play.
Oct 16 - 5:30 PM

Semyon Varlamov has a slight groin strain and his participation in Thursday's game will be a game-time decision.

It would be surprising if Colorado didn't err on the side of caution here and give Varlamov the night off. If that happens then backup goalie Reto Berra would get the start instead. The Avs' reluctance to name a starter for Thursday suggests that Roy wants to go with Varlamov, so he could still get the nod.

Oct 16 - 1:42 PM

Semyon Varlamov stopped 37-of-40 shots in the Avalanche's 3-2 OT loss to the Leafs on Tuesday.

Varlamov was tested all night and probably deserved a better fate in an overall pretty good night for him personally. Brad Stuart didn't help matters as he coughed up the puck on the tying goal and then there was zero defensive help on Phil Kessel's winner in overtime. Chalk this one up as one of those nights.

Oct 15 - 3:42 AM

Semyon Varlamov made 31 saves in the Avalanche’s 3-0 loss to the Wild on Saturday night.

Much better, even in a loss. Varlamov was pulled after two periods when he gave up five goals on 38 shots in the first game of the season, also a loss to the Wild. He is going to be a very busy goalie this season, and how he handles that workload will likely determine where the Avs finish when all is said and done.
Oct 12 - 12:50 AM

After being pulled against Minnesota Thursday night after allowing five goals in 40 minutes, Semyon Varlamov will be back in the Colorado net Saturday night.

He will get the chance to redeem himself against the same Minnesota team. We expect Varlamov to bounce back nicely Saturday so make sure you have him active.
Oct 11 - 12:29 PM

Semyon Varlamov was yanked after allowing five goals on 38 shots in two periods of play during the Avs' blowout loss to the Wild on Thursday night.

Although backup Reto Berra fared much better in the third period, stopping all 10 shots, this loss could not possibly fall on Varlamov. The Wild utterly outplayed the Avalanche, did not provide any goal or defensive zone support for Varlamov and frankly deserved to be blown out by the faster and more inspired Wild squad.
Oct 10 - 2:03 AM

Semyon Varlamov will be between the pipes for Colorado on Thursday in Minnesota.

It's probable that he'll be in goal for Saturday's rematch against the Wild at home as well. Varlamov enjoyed a spectacular season in 2013-14 and while there might be a bit of a drop off, he should still be a great goaltender for your fantasy squad this year.

Oct 9 - 2:10 PM

Semyon Varlamov has sustained what the Avalanche are calling a "very minor" ankle injury.

This is just an FYI as Varlamov obviously has months to recover even if it turns out to be more serious. As it is, the Avalanche think Varlamov will be able to resume skating in the near future, so we aren't concerned.

Jul 15 - 5:00 PM

Semyon Varlamov allowed five goals on 35 shots in Colorado's 5-4 overtime loss to Minnesota in Game 7 of their first round playoff series.

It wasn't a nice way to end his season after he played a tremendous regular season. He is one of the finalists for the Vezina Trophy. Varlamov played seven postseason games with a 2.78 goals-against average and .913 save percentage.
May 1 - 3:26 AM

Semyon Varlamov let in three goals on 21 shots in Colorado's 5-2 loss to Minnesota in Game 6 of their first-round series.

Varlamov played a solid game and couldn't do much for Parise's two goals, which were both deflections in front of the net. Varlamov now has a 2.45 goals-against average and .923 save percentage in the postseason.
