It will be the end to what has been a disappointing season for Varlamov. The last time he won a start was March 30.
Apr 27 - 2:47 PM

Semyon Varlamov stepped in for an injured J.S. Giguere late in the third period, made six saves in overtime and two in the shootout to earn a 5-4 win over the Coyotes Friday night.

In the Avs last road game of the season, Varlamov finally earned his first road win of the season. This was Varlomov’s first win in four games.
Apr 27 - 7:44 AM

Semyon Varlamov was beaten three times on 34 shots in a 3-1 loss to St. Louis Tuesday.

Varlamov has lost his last four outings and two in a row since returning to the lineup from a hip injury. He's not a safe option for the remainder of the year even with the Avalanche trying to play the role of spoilers down the stretch.
Apr 23 - 11:23 PM

Semyon Varlamov will start against St. Louis on Tuesday.

Semyon Varlamov has only started in three games this month, largely due to a hip injury. That being said, Varlamov has also allowed three or more goals in each of those games.

Apr 18 - 4:00 PM

The Colorado Avalanche have activated Semyon Varlamov.

Varlamov, who suffered a hip injury in the morning skate a week ago and could not go against the Flames, will back up Jean-Sebastien Giguere Monday and should see action later in the week. He has a 3.02 GAA and a .902 save percentage to go with a 10-18-3 record. He should not be in your starting lineup even when healthy as there have been plenty of better goaltending choices this season.

Apr 15 - 7:43 AM

Semyon Varlamov has a hip injury and won't travel with the Avalanche to California.

Varlamov was a late scratch for Monday's game against the Calgary Flames with the injury. The fact that he's not traveling with the team means he'll miss at least the next two games against Anaheim and Los Angeles, although it remains to be seen how much time he'll miss after the road trip. Sideline him for now and we'll update you as soon as we know more.
Apr 9 - 3:00 PM

Semyon Varlamov will start against the Calgary Flames on Monday.

Varlamov will attempt to bounce back after allowing seven goals in his previous two starts. He has an ugly 3.02 GAA and .902 save percentage in 31 games this season.

Apr 8 - 4:59 PM

Semyon Varlamov made 24 saves on 28 shots and took the loss in Saturday’s 5-0 defeat at the clutches of the Phoenix Coyotes.

You’re fantasy team probably isn’t in very good shape if you’re depending on Varlamov to earn a win and put up solid goalie stats, as that is a very rare occurrence these days.
Apr 7 - 1:44 AM

Semyon Varlamov will play between the pipes on Saturday against the Phoenix Coyotes.

Varlamov will attempt to bounce back after surrendering three goals on 13 shots against the Detroit Red Wings on Monday. He has a 3.37 GAA and .880 save percentage in five career starts against the Coyotes.
Apr 6 - 5:06 PM

Semyon Varlamov was pulled in the second period of Colorado's 3-2 loss to Detroit after allowing three goals on 13 shots.

Like it or not, Varlamov is still the Avalanche franchise goaltender for now. When he's on his game, he's elite. He has the potential to be a solid netminder in the NHL but is inconsistent and still prone to soft goals. Varlamov has been pretty inconsistent this season and has received little help in front of him, both offensively and defensively. He’s only worth a look in favorable matchups against low scoring teams.
Apr 1 - 10:11 PM

Look for Semyon Varlamov to get the start Monday.

Varlamov was outstanding on Saturday in the Avs 1-0 overtime win over Nashville and will get the chance to go back-to-back Monday when the Avalanche take on the Red Wings in Detroit. He is 10-16-3 with a 2.93 GAA and a .906 save percentage for the lowly Avs.

Apr 1 - 7:28 AM

Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov is receiving big praise from his teammates for his performance in Saturday's shutout win over Nashville.

"Might be one of the best games I've ever seen a goalie play," said defenseman Tyson Barrie of Varlamov. "He made five, six, seven highlight-reel saves." The Colorado netminder stopped all 34 shots he faced for the win and many were of the difficult variety. Coach Joe Sacco also credited the goaltender, saying "That's what you need to help you get out of a ditch sometimes."
