Apr 1 - 7:46 PM

Semyon Varlamov (lower body) is expected to be out of the rest of the season.

Varlamov was headed for the easy win last night when Chicago's Tomas Jurco crashed into him, knocking him out of the game. Look for Jonathan Bernier to carry the load for the rest of the season and try and get the Avalanche into the playoffs with four games remaining. It's a double whammy with news coming out that Erik Johnson will also miss the next six-to-eight weeks with his own injury.
Mar 31 - 2:16 PM

Semyon Varlamov stopped all 30 shots he faced in Friday's 5-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Unfortunately for the Avalanche, Varlamov was injured in the third period after Blackhawks forward Tomas Jurco crashed into him. Backup netminder Jonathan Bernier played the final seven minutes of the game and was able to preserve the shutout. Varlamov is considered day-to-day for now, but expect the Avs to provide an update on his status in the coming days. He has a 24-16-6 record with a 2.68 goals-against-average and a .920 save percentage this season. Losing him for an extended period of time would be a tough blow for an Avalanche team that has playoff aspirations.

Mar 29 - 5:21 PM

Semyon Varlamov is dealing with an illness.

Varlamov might be unavailable for Wednesday's game as a result. Jonathan Bernier (hand) is not an option, so if Varlamov can't start, then the Avalanche's choices are rookie Spencer Martin or Andrew Hammond, who has been summoned from the AHL. The Avalanche, which are one point behind in the Wild Card race, are scheduled to play against Philadelphia Wednesday night.

Semyon Varlamov allowed three goals on 29 shots in Monday's 4-1 road loss against the Golden Knights.

Varlamov was unable to duplicate his success from the front end of the home-and-home, losing or the second time in the past three outings. Despite the recent rough patch, he is still a solid No. 2 fantasy netminder in most formats heading into the final days of the regular season. He'll try to rebound Wednesday against the Flyers.
