Semyon Varlamov has sustained what the Avalanche are calling a "very minor" ankle injury.
This is just an FYI as Varlamov obviously has months to recover even if it turns out to be more serious. As it is, the Avalanche think Varlamov will be able to resume skating in the near future, so we aren't concerned. Jul 15 - 5:00 PM

Semyon Varlamov allowed five goals on 35 shots in Colorado's 5-4 overtime loss to Minnesota in Game 7 of their first round playoff series.

May 1 - 3:26 AM

Semyon Varlamov let in three goals on 21 shots in Colorado's 5-2 loss to Minnesota in Game 6 of their first-round series.

Varlamov played a solid game and couldn't do much for Parise's two goals, which were both deflections in front of the net. Varlamov now has a 2.45 goals-against average and .923 save percentage in the postseason.
Apr 29 - 3:21 AM

Semyon Varlamov set aside 29 shots in Colorado's thrilling 4-3 overtime win against Minnesota in Game 5 of their first-round series.

Varlamov continues to be the backbone of this team, one that doesn't always possess the puck enough and is therefore forced to spend a lot of time in its own end, defending. After Game 1 in which he allowed four goals, Varlamov has given up eight goals over his last four games. He has a 2.33 goals-against average and .931 save percentage in the playoffs. The Avs are a win away from advancing to the second round.
Apr 27 - 12:53 AM

Semyon Varlamov has been named as a finalist for the Vezina Trophy.

Ben Bishop and Tuukka Rask are his two competitors. Varlamov had a 2.41 GAA, which is the worst of the three, but he had a strong .927 save percentage. He also led the league in wins (41) while facing more shots (2,013) than any other goalie. He's the first Avalanche nominee for the award since his current coach Patrick Roy was a finalist in 2001-02.

Apr 25 - 12:06 PM

Semyon Varlamov turned aside 30 of 32 shots in Colorado's 2-1 loss to Minnesota in Game 4 of their first round playoff series.

Apr 25 - 3:18 AM

Goaltender Semyon Varlamov was superb for the Avalanche Monday night despite suffering a loss in a 1-0 overtime defeat to the Wild.

The Avalanche were badly outplayed on this night and only their netminder kept the score knotted at 0-0 through three periods. In the end, Varlamov allowed just one goal on 46 shots in the contest and certainly deserved a better fate than he received.
Apr 22 - 1:50 AM

Semyon Varlamov set aside 30 shots in Colorado's 4-2 Game 2 win over the Wild on Saturday night.

Varlamov gave up the game's first goal 4:18 into the first, then didn't allow one until 1:19 left in the contest. Even though Colorado wound up with a win in Game 1, Varlamov was certainly not at his best. This one was a different story and that should give the 25-year-old confidence as the Avs hit the road. Even more promising for the Avalanche is that they posted the best road record in the league this season and Varlamov has been just as sharp away from his home building, posting a .927 save percentage.
Apr 20 - 12:44 AM

Semyon Varlamov stopped 29 of 33 shots in Colorado's 5-4 overtime win over Minnesota Thursday night at Pepsi Center.

Varlamov finished the regular season with 41 wins and he should be one of the candidates to win the Vezina trophy. His first playoff game with the Avalanche wasn't his best performance of the season, but he will be between the pipes again on Saturday.
Apr 18 - 3:37 AM

Semyon Varlamov will start in goal Sunday against Anaheim.

He will be gunning for a very impressive 42nd win which will extend the team record he set Thursday night. Execept for some personal problems with his girlfriend that led to charges that were utlimately dropped, Varlamov has had a dream season under Patrick Roy in 2013-14.
Apr 12 - 12:56 PM

Semyon Varlamov broke Patrick Roy's single-reason win record for the Avalanche with his 41st victory Thursday night.

Colorado's current bench boss had the previous record at 40, which he set during the 2000-01 campaign. "I'm excited about it, I'm not going to lie," he said. "I just want to say thanks to my team because without them, I can't break that record. It's a big deal for me."

Apr 10 - 12:06 PM

Semyon Varlamov may get the nod for Colorado in Sunday's regular season finale after all.

Coach Patrick Roy said he might change his mind about giving Varlamov that game off because it could have playoff-seeding implications. Colorado has a chance to win the Central Division.

Apr 9 - 9:23 AM

Coach Patrick Roy plans to give Semyon Varlamov the last two games of the regular season off.

That would put Reto Berra in goal against San Jose on Friday and Jean-Sebastien Giguere against Anaheim on Sunday. Giguere was also planned to start Tuesday's game in Edmonton, so Varlamov may face Vancouver on Thursday in his last game of the regular season.
