Nick Foligno registered a goal and an assist in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Los Angeles Kings.

Foligno's power play goal opened the scoring at the 5:43 mark of the first period, but Kings forward Anze Kopitar tied the game just over a minute later. Foligno also helped set up Oliver Bjorkstrand's goal later on in the frame. Foligno now has a two goals and five assists in eight games this season.
Oct 21 - 10:58 PM

Nick Foligno moved up to the first line during Monday's practice.

Foligno is still serving as a center in contrast to his usual position of left wing, but now his linemates are Artemi Panarin and Cam Atkinson. That's pretty much ideal for Foligno's fantasy value, but we'll have to wait and see if the line sticks. Alexander Wennberg was bumped to the second line in the shakeup.
Oct 10 - 5:26 AM

Columbus coach John Tortorella said on Saturday that Nick Foligno will start the season at center.

The move will allow last season's first round pick and third overall selection Pierre-Luc Dubois to remain with the team at left wing. "Combination of (Foligno’s versatility) and I could tell that Luc just felt comfortable at wing," Tortorella said. "After last year’s camp when he was a little tentative and he looked overwhelmed, I just wanted to give him as much confidence as possible in this camp and he’s improving every day." Look for a 50 point season from Foligno.
Oct 1 - 7:17 AM

Coach John Tortorella is looking at Nick Foligno at center.

Foligno has played on the wing for most of his career but Tortorella had him at center Sunday with Oliver Bjorkstrand and Pierre-Luc Dubois on the wings. Dubois was taken third overall in 2016 because he was the first-line center the Blue Jackets were missing so this is an interesting development. In any case, look for a 20 goal, 50 point season from Foligno.
Sep 25 - 7:02 AM

Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno was named the winner of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy and the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award.

The King Clancy Award is given "to the player who best exemplifies leadership on and off the ice and who has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution to his community," while the Messier Award is presented "to the player who exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice, during the regular season." This season, Foligno and his family committed $1 million to the Nationwide Children's Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital.
Jun 20 - 8:16 PM

After the Blue Jackets struggled in 2015-16, Nick Foligno's leadership was questioned by coach John Tortorella and now the Columbus captain is a finalist for the Mark Messier Leadership Award.

Foligno and the Jackets got back on track this past campaign. "Two years ago, I took everything on myself, and I wasn't playing well enough to justify getting on guys," he said. "I had to get selfish, so to speak. I had to take care of myself first, and let my game justify being the leader I always knew I could be." Foligno registered 26 goals and 51 points in 79 contests, while helping Columbus post the fourth-best record in the league.
Jun 20 - 2:53 PM

Nick Foligno has been nominated for the Mark Messier Leadership Award.

The other two nominees are Anaheim's Ryan Getzlaf and Calgary's Mark Giordano. The award is given "to the player who exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice, during the regular season." Foligno and his wife have pledged $1 million dollars to split between Nationwide Childen's Hospital and Boston Children's hospital. He also formed a partnership with Papa John's Pizza to raise money for the "Janis Foligno Foundation".
Apr 27 - 8:12 PM

Nick Foligno (lower body) will miss Game 5 against the Penguins on Thursday night.

That's a big loss for Columbus, who just achieved their first ever postseason regulation victory in Game 4. The Blue Jackets captain has two helpers in four games this series.
Apr 20 - 6:59 PM

Nick Foligno picked up a helper in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Flyers.

That gives Foligno 25 assists and 51 points in 78 games. Though not quite the 31-goal and 73-point campaign from two seasons ago, it's quite the turnaround from the 12-goal and 37-point showing he had in 2015-16.
Apr 8 - 4:49 PM

Nick Foligno reached the 50-point milestone on Thursday.

Foligno is still a far cry from his 73-point campaign in 2014-15, but this is at least a bounce back from his 37-point showing last season. Ultimately what he's done this season is fairly consistent with what we've seen from Foligno throughout his career and it's likely that 73-point campaign will prove to be an anomaly.
Apr 7 - 10:19 AM

The Columbus Blue Jackets are struggling as the playoffs approach.

Columbus has dipped to 2-4-2 over its last eight games after suffering a 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh on Tuesday. "I don’t know if we’re overthinking every play," Nick Foligno said. "I had one (moment). I had to feed (the puck) to Seth (Jones) from literally five feet from me and I threw it in front of him. It was in the offensive zone. We had a glorious chance. It’s frustrating in that sense, but that’s not going to help us find answers. We all have to get urgent and work our way out of this." Unfortunately for the Blue Jackets they don't have much time left to work through this before they have to shift to playoff contests. The first round will be tough for them too given that they're projected to play against the Penguins.
Apr 5 - 9:56 AM

Nick Foligno scored a goal in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.

The goal puts an end to his eight-game goalless drought. The Blue Jackets captain tied the game at one at the 17:15 mark of the first period, but Chicago responded just 22 seconds later to jump back ahead 2-1. Foligno finished the game with two penalty minutes, four shots on goal and two hits in 20:55 of ice time. He's up to 25 goals and 24 assists in 75 games.
Mar 31 - 11:24 PM

Nick Foligno picked up his third point over his last four games during Saturday's 3-2 overtime win.

The Captain picked up his 24th helper of the season, giving him 48 points in 67 games this season.
Mar 18 - 5:32 PM

Columbus will get Nick Foligno back from an illness on Thursday against Florida.

He has posted 24 goals and 47 points along with 42 blocks, 47 PIMs and 104 hits this season over 67 games, which ought to get him back into all lineups in all formats. He'll skate to the left of Brandon Saad and Alexander Wennberg on the team's second line.
