Nick Foligno potted his eighth of the season Sunday.
Foligno opened the scoring for the Blue Jackets as they eventually won 3-2 in a shootout over the Panthers. Foligno is having a poor offensive season with only 15 points in 43 games. Hopefully this is the start of something good for Foligno but it's tough to keep him in your lineup at this time. Jan 8 - 6:51 AM

Nick Foligno has been having a tough time offensively this season.

The Blue Jackets captain has only seven goals and 14 points in 42 games after a 51 point campaign last year in which he had 40 points in his first 47 games before slumping in the second half with only 11 points in his last 32 contests. "For me, it has never really been about the points," Foligno said. "The process gets you the results. It’s easy to lose sight of in a game. It’s how I play; the points usually follow. That has to get better and it will." For Foligno, it has not been pretty of late as he has not found the back of the net in his last 10 games. Keep him reserved at best at this time.

Nick Foligno found the back of the net in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils.

Foligno tied the game at one with his goal at the 13:46 mark of the first period. Unfortunately for the Blue Jackets, it was the only offense they could muster this evening. Foligno has six goals and six assists in 28 games this season. Seth Jones and Oliver Bjorkstrand picked up the assists on Columbus' only goal.

Nick Foligno scored for the first time in 14 games on Friday.

It was a big week for Foligno who snapped a 12 game pointless streak on Wednesday. He has been having a tough go of it lately but is up to four goals and 10 points in 23 games. He is on a two-game points streak but his fantasy value has been limited this season because of his prolonged slump.

Nick Foligno recorded an assist in the Blue Jackets' 1-0 win over Calgary Wednesday night.

Foligno brought an end to his 12-game scoring drought. He has three goals and nine points in 22 contests this season. Foligno turned heads in 2014-15 with his 73-point campaign, but he's not expected to ever get back to that height. At this point we're hoping for 40-50 points out of him this season.

Nick Foligno has not had a point in his last 11 games.

Foligno got off to a good start this season with eight points in his first nine games but it has been goose eggs since then for the center. Just an FYI in case his name comes up in trade talk in your league and you have been wondering what he has been doing.

Nick Foligno has been skating between Cam Atkinson and Artemi Panarin for the past two practices.

The trio is expected to be together for Wednesday's match against Buffalo. Alexander Wennberg is slated to play with Boone Jenner and Oliver Bjorkstrand.

Nick Foligno registered a goal and an assist in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Los Angeles Kings.

Foligno's power play goal opened the scoring at the 5:43 mark of the first period, but Kings forward Anze Kopitar tied the game just over a minute later. Foligno also helped set up Oliver Bjorkstrand's goal later on in the frame. Foligno now has a two goals and five assists in eight games this season.

Nick Foligno moved up to the first line during Monday's practice.

Foligno is still serving as a center in contrast to his usual position of left wing, but now his linemates are Artemi Panarin and Cam Atkinson. That's pretty much ideal for Foligno's fantasy value, but we'll have to wait and see if the line sticks. Alexander Wennberg was bumped to the second line in the shakeup.

Columbus coach John Tortorella said on Saturday that Nick Foligno will start the season at center.

The move will allow last season's first round pick and third overall selection Pierre-Luc Dubois to remain with the team at left wing. "Combination of (Foligno’s versatility) and I could tell that Luc just felt comfortable at wing," Tortorella said. "After last year’s camp when he was a little tentative and he looked overwhelmed, I just wanted to give him as much confidence as possible in this camp and he’s improving every day." Look for a 50 point season from Foligno.

Coach John Tortorella is looking at Nick Foligno at center.

Foligno has played on the wing for most of his career but Tortorella had him at center Sunday with Oliver Bjorkstrand and Pierre-Luc Dubois on the wings. Dubois was taken third overall in 2016 because he was the first-line center the Blue Jackets were missing so this is an interesting development. In any case, look for a 20 goal, 50 point season from Foligno.

Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno was named the winner of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy and the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award.

After the Blue Jackets struggled in 2015-16, Nick Foligno's leadership was questioned by coach John Tortorella and now the Columbus captain is a finalist for the Mark Messier Leadership Award.

Foligno and the Jackets got back on track this past campaign. "Two years ago, I took everything on myself, and I wasn't playing well enough to justify getting on guys," he said. "I had to get selfish, so to speak. I had to take care of myself first, and let my game justify being the leader I always knew I could be." Foligno registered 26 goals and 51 points in 79 contests, while helping Columbus post the fourth-best record in the league.

Nick Foligno has been nominated for the Mark Messier Leadership Award.

The other two nominees are Anaheim's Ryan Getzlaf and Calgary's Mark Giordano. The award is given "to the player who exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice, during the regular season." Foligno and his wife have pledged $1 million dollars to split between Nationwide Childen's Hospital and Boston Children's hospital. He also formed a partnership with Papa John's Pizza to raise money for the "Janis Foligno Foundation".
