Nick Foligno has only one goal in 21 games this season.
That's a far cry from the 31 he managed last season as he had a career year with 42 assists and 73 points. Foligno has only eight points in 21 games and is a minus-12. While we expected a drop off from last season, we certainly did not expect to see Foligno crash and burn. Look for closer to 45 points at tops this season for the winger. Nov 21 - 7:00 AM

Nick Foligno played center on Friday as he replaced the injured Brandon Dubinsky.

The Blue Jackets shuffled their lines due to the injury to Dubinsky as Foligno centered Boone Jenner and Brandon Saad while Cam Atkinson took over Foligno's spot on a line with Scott Hartnell and Ryan Johansen. Look for the Blue Jackets to recall a forward from Lake Erie on Saturday.
Nov 14 - 6:00 AM

Nick Foligno has not scored a goal in his last 10 games.

He is not the only Blue Jacket slumping but after a huge 2014-15 season in which he had a career high 31 goals and 73 points, it's the most notable. Foligno has only a goal and six points in 14 games this season with a minus-eight rating, so he needs to bounce back quickly to justify his high draft ranking heading into the season.
Nov 8 - 7:11 AM

Nick Foligno practiced alongside Scott Hartnell and William Karlsson on Monday.

Foligno has been bounced around a bit lately as the Blue Jackets try to turn their season around. He's struggled along with the rest of the team, scoring a goal and five points in 12 contests.
Nov 3 - 9:21 AM

Nick Foligno started Friday's game with Alexander Wennberg and Scott Hartnell but was back on the first line by the third period.

New coach John Tortorella moved Cam Atkinson off the line with Ryan Johansen and Brandon Dubinsky and replaced him with Foligno. Foligno was held off the scoresheet once again Friday and now has a goal and five points in 11 games thus far after a 31 goal, 73 point effort in 2014-15.
Oct 31 - 6:29 AM

Nick Foligno is projected to play on the second line on Friday.

Foligno broke out with 73 points last season, but he has just a goal and four assists in 10 contests in 2015-16. His projected linemates for the upcoming match are Scott Hartnell and Alexander Wennberg.
Oct 30 - 10:25 AM

Nick Foligno hasn't been able to match the hot start he enjoyed in 2014-15.

Foligno has five points in nine games, compared to the 2014-15 campaign when he scored three goals and nine points over the same span. Of course, Columbus has a whole has been struggling so Foligno's less than ideal start is understandable. However, given that he recorded 73 points last season after never previously recording more than 47 in a single campaign, it would also be understandable if his relatively modest start makes some fear that last season was an anomaly. Ultimately it's too early to come to that conclusion though.
Oct 26 - 9:26 AM

Brandon Dubinsky believes the Columbus Blue Jackets made "a great choice" by selecting Nick Foligno to be their next captain.

"It’s a great choice," said Dubinsky. "He keeps our group even-keeled. He takes his time, he thinks before he speaks. He obviously leads with his play. You really saw him elevate his play last year with a lot of key injuries, and we know he’s going to do the same this season because he’s that taletned of a player. I think he’s really matured into a guy who has a great inner-motivation. We’re excited for him. I know he’s happy and looking forward to the opportunity. We all stand behind him."
Sep 20 - 9:38 AM

As expected, Nick Foligno is honored to be the new captain of the Blue Jackets.

"Any time you're named captain of an NHL team, it's something you dream about," Foligno said. "To have this be a reality with a team I care so much about, it's a huge honor. You can't become a leader unless you have respect in the room. It's come naturally and I really enjoy the group we have." His father, Mike, was captain of the Buffalo Sabres for two seasons. Nick feels ready for the responsibility, but he said wearing the "C" won't change him as a player.
May 21 - 3:12 PM

Nick Foligno has been selected as the Columbus Blue Jackets' captain.

He's the sixth player to wear the 'C' in the franchise's history. He's inheriting the role from Rick Nash as Columbus hasn't had a captain since 2012. "He's ready for this next step," Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards said. "We faced lots of adversity, and leaders become visible in moments like that." Foligno is coming off of a breakout campaign where he scored 31 goals and 73 points in 79 games.
May 20 - 11:09 AM

Nick Foligno is expected to be named the sixth captain in franchise history for the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday, and the first since trading away then-captain Rick Nash three seasons ago.

Earlier in the week, coach Todd Richards spoke about the subject of finally having a captain, "we’ve been a very young team for three seasons now, and we’ve talked a lot about waiting for one player to emerge, how that player, when he’s ready, will be obvious to everyone." Foligno appears to be that player. Turning 28 on Halloween and beginning a six-year $33M contract, Foligno had a career year last season for the Blue Jackets by registering 31 goals and 73 points, far exceeding his previous career highs. He also was one of the hometown representatives during the All-Star game.
May 19 - 7:14 PM

In an email sent out to ticket holders two weeks ago, Columbus Blue Jackets president John Davidson announced that the sixth franchise captain will be announced on May 20th.

This will be their first captain since trading Rick Nash to the New York Rangers three years ago. While there's no consensus of whom it will be, there's speculation that it could be 27 year old and newly re-signed to a six-year $33M contract Nick Foligno.
May 15 - 5:49 PM

The Columbus Blue Jacket players think it's time to have a team captain again.

The last captain was Rick Nash who was dealt in 2012. "What it does is allow one guy to have coaches talk to, to have management come down and talk to," leading scorer Nick Foligno said. "It’s a guy that really has the heartbeat of the team in mind. I think that’s really good. That’s why every team has one. We were in such a transition period, I don’t think we really needed one the past three years. But now we’re on to that next phase where we know what type of team we are, and I think it’s important to have a captain who can exemplify that each and every night. It is a guy you can turn to and know he is going to lead us for a lot of years. I know there is a guy in that (dressing) room that can do that." Foligno would be one of the favorites if the team chose to have a captain again.
Apr 13 - 6:55 AM

Nick Foligno picked up a goal in Friday's 4-2 win over Buffalo.

The Blue Jackets have been out of the playoff picture for a while now but they have been really good down the stretch. They are now 11-0-1 in their last 12 games and they appear to be ready to take a big step forward next season. Foligno opened the scoring just 14 seconds into this game. He now has 31 goals and 73 points in 78 games. No one expected him to have that kind of offensive production this season.
Apr 10 - 10:06 PM

Nick Foligno has been chosen as the third star of the week.

He potted four goals and added one assist in three games. He also had his first career hat trick in a a 5-3 win over Pittsburgh. Foligno's efforts helped the Blue Jackets extend their winning streak to nine straight contests.
