Tom Gilbert was a healthy scratch for the first time in his career Sunday.

Gilbert is minus-13 this season and that is one of the worse plus-minuses in the NHL as he ranks 790th. "Hopefully this is something that spurs him to get it back," Yeo said. "I'm not saying that he's been awful … but I think it was time to make a change. Hopefully this helps him get back on track." Brett Clark was also a healthy scratch as Nate Prosser and Justin Falk drew into the lineup.

Defenseman Tom Gilbert returned to action Saturday for Minnesota.

He contributed two hits and picked up a two-minute penalty in the Wild's 2-0 shutout of the San Jose Sharks.

"I'm ready to go, ready to play," Gilbert said. "I have full confidence going into tomorrow." He has missed the team's last two games with a lower-body injury, but it looks like he'll play Saturday afternoon versus San Jose.

Tom Gilbert (undisclosed) was unable to play on Monday.

Gilbert practiced Monday but couldn't go so Nate Prosser took his place in the lineup. Look for Gilbert to get back in the lineup shortly, especially since he was able to practice.

Tom Gilbert (undisclosed) did not practice with the Wild on Sunday.

Coach Mike Yeo did not seem too concerned as he said that Gilbert is expected to play on Monday. Just an FYI in case Gilbert is on your roster. He has been battling the flu of late so he may have just needed a day off.

Tom Gilbert was back in the Minnesota lineup against the Avalanche Thursday night.

Gilbert was battling the flu but not seems fine as he took 23 shifts and played on Minny's second power play in a 5-3 win over the Avs. Activate him if you need him.

Tom Gilbert (illness) is questionable for Tuesday's encounter against Anaheim.

Tom Gilbert will return to Edmonton for the first time since being dealt by the Oilers almost a year ago.

Gilbert was dealt at the 2012 trade deadline for longtime Wild defenseman Nick Schultz who will also play his first game against his former teammates. It was a good trade for both teams as the Oilers needed a defensive defenseman (Schultz) while the Wild needed some help offensively (Gilbert). "You don't see these type of hockey trades very often," GM Chuck Fletcher said. "Nowadays, a lot of the trades you see are teams moving money or moving a veteran player for picks or prospects. In this case, two defensemen in the prime of their careers were traded for each other. It's a trade that's worked out well for both teams. Tom has played very, very well here. And from what I understand, Nick has played well in Edmonton. That's the way trades should work out. You trade quality for quality, and both teams got what they're looking for."

Tom Gilbert scored his third goal of the 2013 campaign for Minnesota's only goal in a 4-1 loss to Vancouver Thursday night.

Tom Gilbert (groin) is available for the Wild's season opener.

Gilbert is likely to be paired up with blueliner Clayton Stoner. Gilbert had 22 points in 67 games with Minnesota and Edmonton last season.
Jan 19 - 1:46 PM

Tom Gilbert (groin) said he is "good to go" for the Wild's opener Saturday against the Avalanche.

Gilbert did not practice Thursday for precautionary reasons, but he was a participant Friday. The defenseman had five points in 20 games last year. This means Mathew Dumba, who was selected with the seventh pick in the 2012 draft, will have to wait at least one game for his debut.
Jan 18 - 8:19 PM

Wild coach Mike Yeo said Tom Gilbert's groin injury is minor.

Gilbert missed Thursday's practice for precautionary reasons. Yeo feels that, given that the season has been shortened and condensed, that "rest and prevention" are vital.

Jan 17 - 1:07 PM

Michael Russo reports that Tom Gilbert tweaked his groin in a scrimmage.

The Minnesota Wild indicate that it's not a serious injury. In fact, the initial word is that he won't even miss the team's season-opener on Saturday. Gilbert is an interesting depth defensive pick because he could benefit from the infusion of extra talent by way of Zach Parise and Ryan Suter.
