Matt Moulson skated on the top line during Sunday's practice.
Moulson's linemates were Ryan O’Reilly and Kyle Okposo. It's quite the step up from when training camp started and Moulson was working on the fourth unit. He has two goals in four games this season despite averaging just 12:42 minutes per game. We'd caution against getting to excited as this might prove to be a short-term promotion, but it will be interesting to see how he does on Tuesday. Oct 24 - 9:55 AM

Matt Moulson has been playing some good hockey for the Buffalo Sabres.

Molson had a disappointing season last season, as he scored just eight goals in 81 games, but this year's been different. He's already scored two goals and his work rate is noticeably better too. "It comes from the work, having an extra spurt here and there to get to pucks," he said. "It's how I want to play, getting a lot of chances. If you do that, you're likely to be more successful."

Matt Moulson potted his second goal of the year in Sunday's 6-2 win against the Edmonton Oilers.

He had three goals in 11 games last October, but scored just eight times in 81 contests. Moulson is looking to be much better in 2016-17 and he is off to a good start with a goal in each of his first two matches.
Oct 17 - 9:58 AM

Matt Moulson found the back of the net in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Canadiens.

Moulson got the Sabres on the board with a power play goal 35 seconds into the third period. Even though his team lost, it's nice to see Moulson score so early in the season. The 32-year-old is coming off a disappointing 2015-16 season that saw him score eight goals and 21 points in 81 games. He should be able to top those numbers this year, but he won't have any fantasy value in standard leagues.
Oct 13 - 10:38 PM

Matt Moulson scored the shootout winner in Buffalo's 1-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Moulson will look to rebound after a terrible 2015-16 season that saw him score just eight goals and 21 points in 81 games. Don't count on Moulson turning his career around. His days as a relevant fantasy player are pretty much over. He's combined to score just 21 goals over the last two years.
Sep 29 - 10:22 PM

If Matt Moulson is to rebound from his disastrous 2015-16 season and regain his scoring acumen, he's going to have to work his way up from the Sabres' fourth line.

That is where Moulson has started during Buffalo's scrimmages to date. He has ranked behind Kyle Okposo, Sam Reinhart and Brian Gionta on the right side and Evander Kane, Tyler Ennis and Marcus Foligno on the left. "I’ve spoken to Dan [Bylsma]," Moulson said. "He’s pretty blunt in what he says. He doesn’t mix words, so I know I have to earn everything, and that’s what I’m here to do". Although we expect a slight rebound from Moulson this season, don't expect any miracles.
Sep 25 - 8:32 AM

Matt Moulson is using his disappointing 2015-16 campaign as motivation.

"I definitely have a chip on my shoulder coming in to prove a lot of people wrong who maybe lost a little belief," Moulson said. He was limited to eight goals and 21 points in 81 contests last season. That's a far cry from his three-straight 30-goal seasons from 2009-10 through 2011-12. We don't expect him to return to his old highs, but a rebound to 40 points wouldn't be shocking.
Sep 23 - 5:30 PM

The Buffalo Sabres will not buy out the final three seasons of Matt Moulson's five-year, $25 million contract.

"I had a long talk with him," Murray said. "He knows that he has to work hard this offseason. He’s very disappointed in himself, his own season. It was a tough season for him." Moulson was limited to eight goals and 21 points in 81 contests in 2015-16. That's a long way from his height with the New York Islanders when he reached the 30-goal mark for three consecutive campaigns from 2009-10 through 2011-12.
Apr 12 - 12:39 PM

Matt Moulson ended his miserable season with a goal against his former club, the New York Islanders.

Moulson posted just eight goals and 21 points in 81 games for Buffalo in 2015-16. While there's certainly more in the tank than that for him, we'd wait until he proves it first next season.
Apr 10 - 1:16 AM

Matt Moulson and Buffalo GM Tim Murray disagree as to why Moulson is having a terrible season.

Moulson believes that he is suffering through a cirsis of confidence. However, Murray believes the winger's problems stem from a lack of work ethic particularly around conditioning. "I see a player that maybe has neglected some things in the last couple years as far as how workouts are changing, how we as an organization are changing with our young players and even our players on the team," Murray said. Murray did say that Moulson's approach has improved over the last few weeks. All that said, Moulson has been a disaster this season and should not be on anyone's fantasy roster.
Mar 5 - 9:10 AM

Matt Moulson scored a goal in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Ottawa Senators.

Moulson put an end to his 44-game goalless drought with his goal at the 6:01 mark of the first period. Jack Eichel and Zemgus Girgensons picked up the assists on Buffalo's only goal of the game. Unfortunately for the Sabres, Moulson couldn't convert on his shootout attempt. The 32-year-old has five goals and 14 points in 57 games this season. It's been a disappointing year for the veteran forward.
Feb 16 - 11:13 PM

Matt Moulson's goaless games' streak has now hit 43.

It is truly unbelievable how far Moulson has fallen in such a short period. He was once a reliable 30-goal scorer. Now he can't buy a goal. His 5-year, $25 million contract is looking like one of the worst deals from a team perspective in the NHL right now.
Feb 13 - 9:27 AM

Matt Moulson hasn't scored a goal in 40 consecutive games.

Moulson just can't buy one right now. The 32-year-old has mainly been playing on the fourth line of late, but he was given a chance on the second line with Jack Eichel in Saturday's game against Boston, but still didn't find the back of the net. "The mere conversation of saying 40 games without one for Matt seems impossible," coach Dan Bylsma said. "It's time for Matt to step up and do something out of the box." Those who took a chance on him in standard fantasy leagues should cut ties with him if they haven't already.
Feb 7 - 10:46 AM

Matt Moulson will play on a line with rookie center Jack Eichel.

This is Buffalo's latest attempt at sparking Moulson. The 32-year-old has no points in his last 18 contests and he hasn't scored a goal in 35 games. This might be the spark/vote of confidence that Moulson needs to start producing. The two are very familiar with each other off the ice. Eichel is living with Moulson and his family this season.
Jan 25 - 7:22 PM

Matt Moulson's goal drought has reached an unbelievable 35 games.

Moulson has dressed for 35 of the Sabres' last 36 games but has not figured out a way to score a goal, which is astonishing given that he is a three-time, 30-goal scorer. Buffalo coach Dan Bylsma, who has given Mouslon some time on the top line as recently as Friday night, has not been impressed with his veteran forward. "I don’t like where his game’s been at," said Bylsma."But we’re in a situation tonight where we’re going to give him a chance to get his game back to where it can be – where it needs to be for us." If you have not dropped Moulson by now, what are you waiting for?
