Matt Moulson might be a buyout candidate for the Sabres if he isn't claimed by the Golden Knights in the expansion draft.
It's very likely that Buffalo will choose to expose Moulson because he has two seasons left on his five-year, $25 million contract. If he stays with Sabres going into the 2017-18 season then Moulson will hope to get a larger role than the one he had under former head coach Dan Bylsma. Rookie Alex Nylander is making his NHL debut and he'll take Moulson's spot in the lineup. Moulson has 14 goals and 18 assists this season, but he has just one goal in his last nine contests. Justin Falk and Nicolas Deslauriers will also watch from the press box tonight.

He was moved up to a line with Jack Eichel and Kyle Okposo for most of the contest and he posted helpers on both of Eichel's goals. Moulson had been seeing around 10 minutes of ice time or under in each of his previous six appearances. He has 12 points in 28 games this season.

That power-play total places him second in the league behind only Montreal's Shea Weber, who has seven. Buffalo's top unit has consisted of Rasmus Ristolainen, Taylor Fedun, Kyle Okposo, Sam Reinhart and Moulson. He scored just eight goals all of last season, but he has had a much better start to the 2016-17 campaign with nine points in 19 contests.

Matt Moulson scored the second of two Buffalo goals at the 9:43 mark of the third as the Sabres lost to the New Jersey Devils 4-2 Saturday night.

Moulson also scored the lone goal against the Devils Friday night to give him six markers in 15 games this season.

Moulson's opened the scoring with a power play goal at the 10:34 mark of the first period. After scoring just eight goals all of last season, Moulson has produced five goals in 14 games in 2016-17. All five of his goals have been scored on the power play. Kyle Okposo and Ryan O'Reilly assisted on Buffalo's only goal.
