Date:

Curtis McElhinney, making only his second start in net for the Columbus Blue Jackets, had 24 saves in a 3-2 overtime loss to the visiting Colorado Avalanche Monday night.

Sergei Bobrovsky had a rare night off for the Blue Jackets. McElhinney is 0-0-2. His goals-against average is 2.09 and his save percentage is .925. Needless to say, McElhinney is not a wise fantasy option.
Nov 21 - 11:24 PM

Curtis McElhinney will be in goal on Monday night against Colorado.

This will be just his second start of the season. Sergei Bobrovsky started Friday and Sunday, so he will get the night off with Columbus ready to play again on Wednesday.
Nov 21 - 5:08 PM

Curtis McElhinney stopped 28 shots and let two pass in the 2-1 loss of the Columbus Blue Jackets to the St Louis Blues Saturday night.

The Jackets were coming off a three-game winning streak that included Friday night’s trouncing of the Canadiens. McElhinney could not rightly be blamed for the loss, however, as he has a respectable save percentage of .933 after 64:17 minutes on the ice. The winning goal slipped past him at the 4:17 minute mark of overtime on only the second Jackets’ shot.
Nov 6 - 1:39 AM

Curtis McElhinney will face the Blues on Saturday night.

This will be McElhinney's season debut. The veteran backup has seen 148 games worth of action over the years, with 78 of them in a Blue Jackets' sweater. He's 24-32-6 with a .907 save percentage and a 2.90 GAA, so you may wish to find a more favorable matchup.
Nov 5 - 4:53 PM

Curtis McElhinney is expected to start the season as Columbus' backup.

McElhinney's position wasn't guaranteed going into training camp, but Anton Forsberg has been sent to the minors and Joonas Korpisalo has a groin injury. Even with McElhinney now projected to start the season with Columbus, he'll need to be sharp in his starts to hold onto that role. Forsberg and Korpisalo are both viable alternatives and McElhinney is coming off a rough season where he posted a 3.31 GAA and .890 save percentage in 18 contests.

Curtis McElhinney won't give up his roster spot without a fight.

"Plain and clear, I want my job back," said McElhinney. "I don’t take kindly to what happened last season." He backed that up with a 29-save performance in Columbus' 3-2 shootout victory against Boston on Monday. McElhinney ran into injury troubles last season and left plenty to be desired when he was healthy which has left him vulnerable to Joonas Korpisalo or Anton Forsberg taking his roster spot.
Sep 27 - 5:22 AM

Curtis McElhinney will have season-ending knee surgery on Monday.

The 32-year-old suffered the injury during a team practice on Friday. He finishes the year with an ugly 2-7-3 record to go along with 3.30 goals-against-average and a .890 save percentage.
Mar 19 - 5:08 PM

Curtis McElhinney blocked 30 shots in the Blue Jackets’ 6-0 loss to the Flyers on Saturday night.

Woof. McElhinney allowed two goals in each period. But it’s not like he got too much help, either, as his teammates mustered 19 shots on goal. He has a 3.30 GAA and .890 SV% this season. Stay far away.
Mar 5 - 9:57 PM

Curtis McElhinney will face the Flyers on Saturday night.

Unfortunately there's never been a time where McElhinney has been an advisable goalie option, unless your league rewards goals against and losses. Through a myriad of injuries this season the veteran netminder is 2-6-3 in 17 games with 60 goals against.
Mar 5 - 5:58 PM

Curtis McElhinney gave up one goal on 28 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Detroit Red Wings.

McElhinney was good during the regulation and overtime period, but he allowed two goals on three attempts in the shootout. This was the 32-year-old's first start since returning from an ankle injury. He has a 2-6-3 record with a 3.10 goals-against-average and a .895 save percentage in 2015-16.
Feb 23 - 10:55 PM

Curtis McElhinney will start Tuesday's game against Detroit.

Joonas Korpisalo's streak of 12 straight starts will come to an end as a result. McElhinney hasn't started a game since Jan. 2, but he made four saves on four shots in a relief appearance on Feb. 19 against Buffalo.
Feb 23 - 6:27 PM

Curtis McElhinney (ankle) has been taken off injured reserve.

He will back up Joonas Korpisalo on Tuesday night versus the Boston Bruins. McElhinney has been sidelined with an ankle injury since Jan. 2.
Feb 15 - 2:37 PM

Curtis McElhinney (ankle) will travel with the Blue Jackets when they go on their Western Canada swing Monday.

McElhinney suffered an ankle injury on January 2 and has not seen the net since. It is unclear as to whether or not he will be able to play on the road trip but he is close to returning to action. Stay tuned as he could get a few starts if Sergei Bobrovsky remains on the shelf.
Jan 31 - 7:37 AM

Curtis McElhinney skated Monday with his equipment on for the first time since he suffered an ankle injury on Jan. 2.

There's no timetable for his return, but he will keep skating during the All-Star break and plans to travel with the team once NHL action resumes.
