The Washington Capitals demoted D.J. King to the AHL a few days after he cleared waivers.
King has only played one game this season and hasn't seen much NHL action since playing 61 games with the St. Louis Blues in 2007-08. He isn't really useful for much beyond penalty minutes anyway, so it's hard to see him as a factor even on a very deep fantasy team. Sun, Nov 6, 2011 03:14:00 PM

Washington forward D.J. King cleared waivers on Tuesday.

King’s lone action this season was Oct. 15 against Ottawa. The 27-year-old has stated his desire to play and leave D.C. if it means receiving ice time elsewhere. King, who could be sent to Hershey (AHL), played only 29 games at the NHL level the previous three seasons thanks to injuries and being a healthy scratch.

D.J. King has been placed on waivers after requesting that the Washington Capitals move him.

King has only played in one game with the Capitals this season and he's hoping that there's another NHL team out there that will use him more. "I need to play hockey," King said. "It is what it is. If I want to prolong my career in the NHL I’ve got to play hockey and no one can prolong their career if they’re only playing 15 games a year." The Capitals might keep him on their active roster if he successfully clears waivers. For what it's worth, Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau doesn't blame King for making the request. We'll keep you posted.

D.J. King will be in the lineup on Saturday when Washington takes on Ottawa.

When asked about King's role, coach Bruce Boudreau said King is in the lineup for "protection". It is sure to be wild and physical on Saturday in the nation's capital.

D.J. King isn't sure what his role with the Capitals will be this season, but he's focused on getting ready for training camp.

King was brought in to serve as a fourth liner in 2010-11, but he ended up spending the majority of the season in the press box. He had two assists and 30 penalty minutes in just 16 games. He was placed on waivers in February, but remained with the team after going unclaimed. "It wasn't quite the fit," King said. "Who knows what's going to happen this year? All I can do is what I did last year: come to the rink and work hard. If I get the call, I get the call." He could record more than 100 penalty minutes if he plays regularly, but he has no offensive upside.

D.J. King will likely be a healthy scratch for Saturday's contest against the Thrashers.

This should come as no big surprise. Although we bet some of the Thrashers' heavyweights are a little disappointed about this news.

D.J. King will probably dress for the Capitals on Tuesday.

King spent Washington's previous two contests in the press box. Derek Boogaard, who has been battling an illness, is also expected to play for the Rangers. The two have reportedly fought each other four times over the course of their careers.

The Capitals may go with D.J. King against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.

The Flyers are the heavyweights of the East and the Capitals must match them physically. D.J. King could represent the Capitals on the physical side of play. If he did play it would be his sixth game of the season. Keep in mind all of this is speculation. "We have to do what we do best," coach Bruce Boudreau said. "Not worry about what Philadelphia does but worry about what we do. Hopefully we get better than them."

King has no points and 10 penalty minutes in five games this season. King gets a fair amount of penalty minutes when he plays, but he spends too much time in the press box to have any fantasy value.
