The Montreal Canadiens have assigned Joey MacDonald back to the AHL.

The bigger news here is that Carey Price is presumably ready to return to action. Price was the backup goaltender on Thursday against Ottawa, but he didn't dress for Saturday's game against the Islanders. MacDonald didn't see any action during his call up.

Joey MacDonald has been called up by Montreal.

He's slated to back up Dustin Tokarski on Saturday versus the New York Islanders because Carey Price is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

The Montreal Canadiens have called up Joey MacDonald.

No surprise there. Dustin Tokarski was sent to the minors on a conditioning stint because he hasn't been used since Nov. 29 and Montreal's relatively light upcoming schedule meant that probably won't change in the immediate future. With that in mind, MacDonald isn't likely to get a start during this NHL stint.

Joey MacDonald has joined Montreal Canadiens on a one-year, two-way contract.

MacDonald had a 2.90 GAA and .890 save percentage in 11 games with Calgary in 2013-14. He's a solid veteran option to store in the AHL and call up in the event of an injury.

Joey MacDonald stole the spotlight for the Flames Friday night, stopping 34/35 to lift them over the Panthers 2-1.

MacDonald has won two of his past three, improving his record to 5-4-1 this season with a .893 save percentage and 2.93 goals against average. The 34 year old allowed his only goal of the game while the Flames were shorthanded.

Joey MacDonald let in two goals on just nine shots in Calgary's 6-5 loss to Nashville Friday night.

Joni Ortio started the game, but he was pulled in the second period after allowing four goals on 13 shots. Neither of the Calgary goalies played well which was the primary reason the Flames could not register a point despite scoring five goals. MacDonald now has a 4-4-1 record with a 3.16 GAA and .881 save percentage. Those are pretty awful numbers so it is safe to say Ortio will continue to start until Karri Ramo is healthy again.

Joey MacDonald wants to take advantage of the time he gets in the NHL.

MacDonald played his first NHL game since Nov. 1 on Friday night, making 22 of 25 saves in a 4-3 shootout win. It was his first win since Oct. 11. "It’s just great to get another opportunity to come back again, with 15, 16 games left, to show I can still play in this league," he said. "A month ago I didn’t think that was going to happen. I didn’t know what was going to happen. When you’re playing in the best league you get noticed. For me, if it’s not going to be here, at least there are 29 other teams watching. When you go down to the American Hockey League there are scouts around, but it’s not the same as being on TV every night and 30 scouts watching from different teams, different leagues."

Joey MacDonald made 22 stops and another three in the shootout to anchor the Flames past the Stars 4-3 on Friday night.

MacDonald made his first start since Nov. 1st this season, spending most of the year in the AHL with Abbotsford. The veteran improves to 4-3-1 in the NHL so far in 2013-14 with an .885 save percentage and 3.11 goals against average.

Joey MacDonald will play between the pipes on Friday.

MacDonald hasn't played in an NHL game since Nov. 1, but the Flames are scheduled to play on Saturday as well, so rookie goalie Joni Ortio will get a night off. MacDonald has a 3.17 GAA and .885 save percentage in seven contests this season.

Joey MacDonald was demoted to AHL Abbotsford on Sunday.

MacDonald went unclaimed on waivers, which isn't surprising given his 3.17 GAA and .885 save percentage this season. He might end up spending the rest of the 2013-14 campaign in the minors unless there's an injury.

Joey MacDonald has been placed on waivers by the Calgary Flames.

He owns a 3-3-1 record with an .885 save percentage and a 3.17 goals-against average in seven appearances this season. If he clears then the Flames will have the option to send him down to the minors and recall one of their netminders from Abbotsford.

Joey MacDonald called out his team for its play during the game against the Red Wings.

The Flames netminder allowed a bad-angle goal from behind the goal line to start the third, but he also felt his team had more to give in the 4-3 loss. "The first period, we did a lot of standing around and watching," said MacDonald. "There wasn’t a whole lot going on. We were watching (Pavel) Datsyuk and (Henrik) Zetterberg and (Todd) Bertuzzi pass the puck around. You can do that with guys like that. Look what happens — they find back doors, they find seams. In the second period, we were a lot better. Then in the third, you know what? I didn’t think we had much. I know they got that lucky goal, but we’ve got to turn around and get some chances. I thought we just sat back and played the majority of play in our own end. You can’t do that."

Joey MacDonald allowed four goals on only 22 shots in Calgary's 4-3 loss to Detroit Friday evening.

MacDonald did not have a strong game as he allowed a few questionable goals. As a reuslt, there is a decent chance that Karri Ramo will start the Flames' next game. MacDonald now has a 3-3-1 record with a 3.17 goals against average and .885 save percentage.
