Nate Thompson believes the Senators are ready to win right now.

The Sens shocked the hockey world by making it to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final in the spring, but they won't catch anybody off guard going into next year. "This team now is ready to win," he said. "I don’t think this was a Cinderella team (in the 2017 playoffs), it was the real deal. They have a pretty good window to win games and hopefully do something even more special." Thompson joined Ottawa on a two-year contract worth $1.65 million per season this summer. He won't add much scoring to their lineup, but he'll provide them with some strong physical play and good defensive ability.

Updating a previous report, Nate Thompson has a NTC in his new deal with the Ottawa Senators.

Thompson signed a two-year, $1.65 million per season deal. He is a solid bottom six forward that will improve Ottawa's penalty kill. Thompson will have to provide a 10-team no trade list to the Senators.
Jul 1 - 8:37 PM

The Senators have signed Nate Thompson to a two-year deal worth $1.65 million per season.

Thompson is reunited with head coach Guy Boucher and will be a solid fourth-line pivot for the Sens. He was injured for most of the 2016-17 campaign and only registered two points in 30 games. From a fantasy perspective, unless your league values faceoff wins and shot blocks, you can pass.

Nate Thompson will reportedly sign a two-year, $3.3 million deal with the Ottawa Senators.

The 32-year-old had one goal, one assist and 14 penalty minutes in 30 games with the Anaheim Ducks last season. Thompson missed most of 2016-17 with an Achilles injury. He'll serve as a depth forward that can kill penalties for the Senators. He has no fantasy value.
Jul 1 - 11:29 AM

Nate Thompson was playing through a hairline fracture in his ankle.

Thompson still managed to score two goals and six points in 17 playoff games. He's got plenty of time now to heal up before the start of training camp.

Nate Thompson earned an assist in Friday's Western Conference Final opener versus Nashville.

He had the lone assist on Hampus Lindholm's game-tying goal early in the third period. The Ducks lost Game 1 by a score of 3-2 in overtime. Thompson had two shots, two penalty minutes and two hits in 12:55 of ice time.

Nate Thompson was back on the ice for Wednesday's optional skate and he is good to go for Game 7 versus the Edmonton Oilers.

He didn't skate Tuesday and received maintenance instead. Thompson has two goals and two assists in 10 playoff games.
May 10 - 3:00 PM

Nate Thompson skipped Tuesday's practice for maintenance.

"He will be an option for us," coach Randy Carlyle said. "If nothing changes between now and Wednesday morning, he will be an option for us." It sounds like he will be available for Game 7 Wednesday night versus Edmonton. If he can't play then Sam Carrick may dress in his place.
May 10 - 11:29 AM

Nate Thompson may have been injured in Game 4 against the Flames.

He left the ice wobbly after a big hit to the shoulder and will enjoy the time off between series to recover. It looks like Thompson will be OK by the time Game 1 of the next series rolls around.
Apr 22 - 9:34 AM

Nate Thompson scored his second goal of the playoff series in a 3-1 victory over Calgary Wednesday night.

Anaheim will advance to the second round of the playoffs after defeating Calgary in four straight games. The game-winning goal belonged to Thompson who scored his second of the series. This is double the amount of goals he scored during the regular season. Thompson scored on backup goalie Chad Johnson less than a minute after starter Brian Elliott was pulled after letting in the third shot of the night. Thompson had seven shots on goal, but only four shots on goal in the prior three games. This was Thompson’s second playoff game-winning goal in his career; the last one occurred in his last year’s playoff run with the Ducks.

Apr 6 - 9:31 PM

Nate Thompson is expected to take more faceoffs during Antoine Vermette's suspension.

However, he took just five puck drops in Friday's loss to Florida, as the Ducks leaned on Ryan Kesler for 23 draws. "I think Nate Thompson would be a guy who's going to be expected to play a little more now," said coach Randy Carlyle. "He's another left-handed center iceman who can take some defensive-zone faceoffs." He also could see more time on the penalty kill. Thompson has played in eight games since missing the first 51 matches because of an Achilles tendon injury.
