General Manager Bob Murray said that the shoulder injury suffered by Nate Thompson was a bad one.
Thompson required surgery to repair two labral tears and do not expect the feisty forward to be back in action until November or December. He will likely not be at 100 percent upon his return. His big fantasy value is in faceoff wins so we would take a pass on him this season. Jun 28 - 8:03 AM

In the second period, Thompson helped set up Kyle Palmieri's goal to give Anaheim a 2-0 lead. With the Ducks nursing a one goal lead in the third period, Thompson beat Hawks goaltender Corey Crawford to put the game away. May 17 - 6:09 PM

Nate Thompson and Ryan Kesler have been very valuable in the face off circle for the Ducks this season.

Anaheim struggled last season at the dot so they went out and picked up both in the off-season. The Ducks were outstanding in the first two rounds of the playoffs as it took only nine games to dispatch Winnipeg and Calgary. "Like anything and any playoff situation, every round gets harder in every aspect and it’s going to get harder in the faceoff circle," Thompson said. "Guys like Toews and Vermette are both extrememly good on draws, and they are every year. Even a guy like (Marcus) Kruger, he’s pretty good on draws as well. It’s not just going to be the centers that have to do the job. It’s going to be everyone on the ice because they’re pretty good at getting 50-50 pucks and their wingers help them out. So we’re going to have to do the same thing."
