Nate Thompson (Achilles) has reportedly been transferred to the long-term injured reserve list.

Apparently that's how the Ducks were able to stay under the cap while still signing RFA Hampus Lindholm to a six-year, $31.5 million. It makes sense to have Thompson on the LTIR as he might miss almost all of the 2016-17 campaign.

Anaheim GM Bob Murray indicated that Nate Thompson underwent surgery last week to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon.

"We'll be lucky if we see him before the trade deadline, to be honest with you," Murray said. "But he healed faster from the shoulder. This is a tough injury and a tough blow." Thompson missed the first 25 games of the 2015-16 campaign because of off-season surgery to repair two labral tears of his shoulder.

Thompson hasn't played since March 11th due to the ailment. The absence on the trip means the next time he could be available is on March 30th, when Anaheim hosts Calgary. Through 39 games this season Thompson's posted three points, 33 PIMs and blocks, along with 82 hits thus far.

He is sidelined with a lower-body injury. Thompson is considered day-to-day at this point. There's no timeline for his return. He missed practice late last week because he was "banged up" but he managed to play in the following game. It's unclear when exactly he was injured.

The incident occurred on Friday night and it got Thompson ejected for an elbowing major. He will be eligible to return on Tuesday, Dec. 22 versus the New York Rangers.
