Nate Thompson found the back of the net for the second straight game Saturday.
This time Thompson actually beat a goaltender as Friday's goal was into the empty net. Thompson's third of the season was a shorthanded effort as Ryan Getzlaf stole the puck behind the net and passed it in front to Thompson who beat Michael Hutchinson. It gave the Ducks a 3-1 lead in a game they would beat the Jets 4-1. Thompson has seven points and a minus-three rating with 27 penalty minutes thus far this season, giving him some value if you play the penalty minutes category. Dec 14 - 5:41 AM

Nate Thompson scored the game-winning goal in Anaheim's 2-1 overtime win over Dallas on Friday.

The goal was Thompson's first as a member of the Ducks. The 30-year-old was acquired by Anaheim in a trade with Tampa Bay during the off-season. Thompson is a solid defensive forward, but he doesn't bring much to the table in terms of scoring. Corey Perry scored the other goal for Anaheim. Perry also got an assist on Thompson's goal.

The Anaheim Ducks used Nate Thompson to take the draw in their own zone with under a minute to go in Friday's game.

The Ducks already had centers Ryan Getzlaf and Ryan Kesler on the ice but coach Bruce Boudreau chose to use Thompson as the faceoff was on the left side. "It’s always good to be relied upon in key situations," Thompson said. "I just keep doing my job and keep getting the job done." If you use faceoffs as a category, then Thompson has some value. He also will chip in with some points and he actually set up Corey Perry for the winner on Friday.
Oct 19 - 4:50 AM

The Anaheim Ducks are expecting Nate Thompson to be a grinding fourth line center.

The Ducks need a shutdown center who is good at penalty killing and at the face off dot and that is exactly what Thompson brings to the table. "I pride myself in situations like that," Thompson said. "That’s what I've been doing my whole career. If I can come in and help this group in those areas, I think it’s a win-win for everybody. They've already got a pretty good hockey club with some pretty good players. I'm just trying to come in and play my game and complement that. Just kind of add that piece to the puzzle that makes us a better team." Look for 20-25 points from Thompson with plenty of face off wins.
Sep 28 - 6:14 AM

The Anaheim Ducks have acquired center Nate Thompson from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for two 2015 draft picks.

The Lightning will get a fourth and seventh round pick for Thompson as the Ducks continue to strengthen down the middle after acquiring Ryan Kesler on Thursday. Thompson will help on the penalty kill and at the face off dot. He chipped in with nine goals and 16 points last season so his fantasy value is negligible.
Jun 30 - 6:52 AM

Lightning center Nate Thompson scored twice but there wasn't much more for Tampa Bay to celebrate in a 6-3 loss to the Avalanche in Colorado Sunday night.

Thompson's goals were his seventh and eighth of the season. Scoring the Lightning's other goal was Tom Pyatt, his second.
Mar 2 - 11:06 PM

Nate Thompson scored a goal in the Lightning's 4-2 win over Dallas on Saturday.

Thompson now has six goals and 12 points in 59 games this season. That's pretty much on par with what we expected from him when the season began.
Mar 2 - 11:00 AM

Nate Thompson scored both goals for Tampa Bay in Saturday's 2-1 overtime triumph over Montreal.

He opened the scoring with a shorthanded marker and supplied the winner in the last 30 seconds of the extra session. Thompson was the unlikely hero of the contest, as he has just five goals and 11 points in 54 games this season. Victor Hedman assisted on both of Thompson's markers.
Feb 1 - 5:03 PM

Nate Thompson returned to action on Thursday January 16.

He missed Tuesday's game with the flu. Thompson had one shot in his return and he won 9-of-17 draws during his 16:14 of ice time.
Jan 17 - 1:44 AM

Nate Thompson didn't play Tuesday because of the flu.

He has nine points and 63 hits in 46 games this season. Consider him day-to-day.
Jan 15 - 8:42 AM

Nate Thompson scored the lone goal for the Lightning in their 2-1 overtime loss to the Jets on Saturday night.

Thompson may be getting his fair share of minutes lately (16:33 on Saturday), but he's not close to being a fantasy factor. He's low-upside bottom-six player, and his two goals and five points attest to that. Martin St. Louis and Radko Gudas had the helpers on the goal.

Nate Thompson was thrilled to win a bronze medal with Team USA at the IIHF World Championship.

He called it "a once in a lifetime experience I will never forget." It was his first medal and second time he has competed for the United States at the tournament. "It was awesome," he said. "With the group of guys we had an how young we were, I don't think anyone would have picked us to do that. We had a pretty resilient group." Thompson generated a goal, three points and a plus-1 rating in 10 games.

Nate Thompson is projected to be OK to play Tuesday night after he sustained a cut above his right eye on Saturday when he took a shot to the face.

The Mike Green slap shot shattered his visor and although he was able to return to the game, he left shortly after. Thompson also sat out Sunday's contest, but it sounds like he'll play Tuesday at Winnipeg.

Nate Thompson took a puck to the face off a slap shot from Mike Green and had to leave Saturday's contest.

Thompson needed eight stitches above the right eye after taking a puck to the face in the first period. The Green shot shattered his shield and left him with a cut over his right eye. Thompson returned but only played three shifts early in the second period before leaving the contest.
