The Canadiens did not tender Blunden a qualifying offer, so he became an unrestricted free agent, and they'll end up saving a little bit of money as his NHL salary last year was $615,000. The forward had two goals and two assists in his 39 games with the Habs last season.

Canadiens coach Randy Cunneyworth said "there was no real severe damage" when Blunden was boarded by the Devils' Patrik Elias on Thursday. The Canadiens have classified Blunden ailment as a lower body injury, but he appeared to hit his head as a result of the collision.

Michael Blunden left Thursday's game due to what the Canadiens have classified as a lower body injury.

The greater concern is that Blunden appeared to hit his head against the boards when he was checked by the Devils' Patrik Elias just one shift before he left the contest. For now we'll list him as day-to-day, but that's worth keeping in the back of your mind.

Blunden was limited to a team-low 3:12 minutes. He's a physical player who is also willing to block pucks, but he doesn't have much offensive upside.
