Steve Downie has not joined the Coyotes on their four game road trip as he is out with an upper body injury.

This does not mean that the rugged forward will not join the team at some point but he did not make the trip to Columbus for Saturday's contest. Downie has three points with 30 penalty minutes thus far making him a nice selection in pools that use the penalty minute category.
Nov 14 - 5:02 AM

Steve Downie (upper body) will not play on Thursday.

Downie was hurt during Monday's contest. He was initially expected to play on Tuesday regardless, but that didn't happen. He's regarded as day-to-day at this point. He has three points and 30 penalty minutes in 14 games this season.
Nov 12 - 1:47 PM

Nov 10 - 4:23 PM

Steve Downie scored his first goal as a member of the Coyotes on Friday night.

Though the Coyotes would eventually fall 4-3, Downie's tally cut the deficit to just 3-2 with about 22 minutes left to play. Through 10 games he now has a goal, three points, 15 hits, and 30 PIMs
Oct 31 - 1:26 AM

Steve Downie picked up 14 PIMs and drew two minors in Thursday's 4-3 loss to Minnesota.

Well it's not like you were counting on Downie to help you with goals and assists, right? Downie had a shot and four hits during his 9:41 of ice time, which somehow included 2:22 on the power play. As for his penalties, he recorded hooking and unsportsmanlike minors plus a 10-minute misconduct. He also drew two minors, for what it's worth. He's now up to 18 PIMs and 16 hits this season.
Oct 16 - 1:01 AM

It sounds like Coyotes coach Dave Tippett is hoping that Steve Downie will cut down on his penalty minutes this season.

"There are some things there that we’ll have a good talk about before the start of the season, but he plays hard," Tippett said. "Guys that play hard and stick up for teammates are going to get some penalties, but there’s some that are warranted and some that he can probably take out of his game." That being said, Downie had 238 penalty minutes last season despite coach Mike Johnston also expressed a desire for him to play a more disciplined game. Assuming the Coyotes play Downie consistently, it wouldn't surprise us if he's once again one of the league leaders in PIM.
Sep 22 - 5:08 AM

Steve Downie has signed a one-year/$1.75 million deal with the Arizona Coyotes.

The NHL leader in penalty minutes last season will take his talents to Phoenix. He had 14 goals and 28 points with 238 penalty minutes with the Penguins last season. Expect similar stats next season.
Jul 1 - 12:55 PM

Steve Downie (upper body) should be available on Friday.

Downie has been out for two straight games. He has 28 points and 236 penalty minutes in 70 contests in 2014-15.
Apr 10 - 11:28 AM

Steve Downie will not be in the lineup when the Pittsburgh Penguins visit the Philadelphia Flyers Sunday afternoon.

Downie has an upper-body injury. The right winger has 14 goals, 14 assists and 236 penalty minutes. His spot in the lineup will be taken by superstar Evgeni Malkin, who will return from an injury.
Apr 5 - 11:59 AM

Steve Downie scored his 14th goal of the season on Saturday and battled Shane Doan.

Downie took on Doan after the Arizona Coyote veteran hit defenseman Kris Letang into the boards. Letang's head hit the boards and he was taken to hospital. Downie leads the NHL with 228 penalty minutes and now has five goals in his last nine home games. He should be in someone's fantasy lineup.
Mar 29 - 10:25 AM

Steve Downie has four goals in his last eight games in Pittsburgh.

Downie must like the home cooking as he now has 13 goals and 27 points to go with an NHL leading 223 penalty minutes.
Mar 28 - 10:53 AM

Steve Downie looked like a first line All-Star when he pulled out a swift backhand-to-forehand plus 180 degree turn for his 13th goal of the season on Tuesday night.

The maneuver has become somewhat common among crease-crowding power play forwards, but no one expected the league's leading penalty minute (223) getter to pull it off. Downie also did not take a penalty for the third time in four games. For the season, Downie now has 13 goals and 27 points this season.
Mar 25 - 12:50 AM

Steve Downie is promising to play a more disciplined game.

The Penguins are concerned with the number of penalties Downie has taken this season. He currently leads the league with 221 PIM, which is nearly 50 more than the second place Cody McLeod. "It's tough (to be physical but avoid the penalty box), but at the end of the day I can't take penalties this time of year," Downie said. "Discipline-wise, I haven't been very good the past two games. But that will change. I will be better now."
Mar 17 - 11:34 AM

Steve Downie will be scratched as Craig Adams tags in on Friday night against the Anaheim Ducks.

No reasoning was given for why Downie will be out of the lineup, but he's been a quality fantasy player nevertheless. Downiew has amassed 11 goals, 24 points, 87 hits, and 191 PIMs this season. Adams meanwhile has contributed just six points, 37 PIMs, and 155 hits and will line up to the right of Nick Spaling and Max Lapierre on the fourth line.
