Former New Jersey Devil and Atlanta Thrasher Niclas Bergfors assisted on the winning goal in Severstal's 3-1 win over Amur in KHL action Saturday.

Bergfors' best NHL season was with the Thrashers (now the Jets) in 2010-11 when he registered 29 points in 52 games. Other familiar names on the Severstal roster include former Bruins' prospect Mikko Lehtonen and Nashville winger Teemu Laakso.

Niclas Bergfors has cleared unconditional waivers and has been assigned to Milwaukee of the AHL.

Since it was unconditional waivers, Bergfors can sign on with any team as both sides can mutually agree to terminate his contract. "Bergie has some ability. He just didn’t show enough dynamics in terms of the offense," coach Barry Trotz said. "Probably in some ways he’s been more of an offensive player than a defensive player. I just didn’t see enough to warrant going any further." It doesn't look like Bergfors will ever wear a Nashville uniform again, unless it's around the house.

Niclas Bergfors has been placed on unconditional waivers by the Nashville Predators.

He initially cleared waivers and was assigned to the minors on Wednesday. If Bergfors goes unclaimed this time around then he and the team can decide to mutually terminate his contract. He has notched one goal and one assist in 11 games this season.

Niclas Bergfors has cleared waivers and will be heading to the minors.

"There's other players who are playing better or we feel can contribute more who pushed (Bergfors) out of the fold a little bit," coach Barry Trotz said. "That's the good part. The bad part is you have a player on a one-way heading down, and therefore it puts financial restraints on everybody else." He will earn his full salary of $575,000 in the AHL ranks.

The Nashville Predators have placed forward Niclas Bergfors on waivers.

Any NHL team can put in a claim on Bergfors before noon ET Wednesday. If he passes through, the Predators will likely send him to the minors. He has only a goal and two points in 11 games thus far this season as he has been a healthy scratch eight times. He has no fantasy value.

Niclas Bergfors scores his first goal of the season as Nashville shutout Calgary 2-0 on Saturday.

Bergfors played well, picking up a goal early in the second period. It turned out to be all Nashville needed. Sergei Kostitsyn scored the other goal for the Predators. Their all around game was very solid as they shut down any major attempts Calgary had.

Niclas Bergfors is expected to play in Thursday's game against the Vancouver Canucks.

Bergfors has been a healthy scratch four times already this season. Nashville is looking to mix things up and snap out of their three-game losing streak.

Niclas Bergfors will make his Nashville debut on Thursday night.

"I'm going to go out and work hard and prepare myself like usual and go out and do my best," Bergfors said. "I really get it (here). I know the structure and everything. I'm just looking forward to playing some games." The Predators have injuries to Martin Erat (upper body) and Patric Hornqvist (lower body), which has prompted the lineup change.

The Nashville Predators are hoping this season's low-risk, high-reward gamble in Nicklas Bergfors works out as well as their decision to roll the dice on Sergei Kostitsyn last season.

Kostitsyn, like Bergfors, was talented and still relatively young, but Kostitsyn never seemed to be a good fit with the Canadiens. The Predators were willing to gamble that a change of scenery would help Kostitsyn partially because all they had to do was give Montreal Dan Ellis, who was about to become a free agent anyways. In Bergfors' case, the Predators signed him to a one-year/$575,000 contract after the Florida Panthers declined to present him with a qualifying offer. We recommend keeping a close eye on Bergfors, as he could reach the 50-point mark this season if he consistently gets top-six minutes.

The Nashville Predators have signed forward Niclas Bergfors to a 1-year contract in the amount of $575,000.

Bergfors is just the type of low-cost, high upside player the team has had success with in the past. Although he struggled as a member of the Panthers towards the end of last season, he possesses the talent to be a significant offensive contributor in Nashville.

In a somewhat surprising move, the Florida Panthers declined to make a qualifying offer to restricted free agent Niclas Bergfors.

Bergfors was acquired from the Thrashers at the trade deadline and recorded seven points in 20 games with Florida, but clearly didn't do enough to impress Panthers' management. "[Bergfors] just doesn't seem to be the right fit for us with the direction we're taking,'' assistant general manager Mike Santos said. "The money he's going to command just didn't make sense to us.'' With this talent level, Bergfors could make for a nice sleeper this fall, depending on which club he ultimately lands with.

Niclas Bergfors has one goal and three assists in seven games with the Panthers since being acquired from Atlanta.

He is currently playing on Florida's top line with Stephen Weiss and Sergei Samsonov. Bergfors will be a restricted free agent this summer and his audition with his newest team appears to going well for him so far.

Niclas Bergfors will get an opportunity to prove himself as a member of the Florida Panthers.

Bergfors was a healthy scratch on 11 different occasions for the Thrashers, but he'll receive more significant ice time in South Florida, according to Panthers' coach Peter DeBoer. "We're going to give him some quality ice with some skilled people and some power play time,'' DeBoer said. "Hopefully he can [find] some offense. He seems to be a good kid and works hard. He's going to get an opportunity to show his stuff here.'' Bergfors entered the league with high expectations so he's worth taking a chance on in keeper leagues.
