Ondrej Pavelec has been called up by the Winnipeg Jets.

He has posted an 8-7-2 record with a 2.78 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage with the AHL's Manitoba Moose this season. Winnipeg has one win in the last six games and the goaltending hasn't been steady this year, so Pavelec could get some playing time.

Don't act so surprised to hear that teams are calling the Winnipeg Jets about their trio of goaltenders.

Even Ondrej Pavelec may represent what some teams, like Los Angeles for example, is running out there on a nightly basis. The collective recoil we all just felt reading that sentence is understandable for a goalie with a career .907 save percentage and GA% well over 100, but if there's one thing he can provide is a goalie fit to handle the workload. If a team like the Kings believe they can support his flaws, and get him on the cheap, a trade may be consummated.

The Jets are allegedly still agressivley shopping Ondrej Pavelec to the Kings.

Although Peter Budaj played well in the Kings' shootout win over the Canucks Saturday night, LA still needs goaltending help with Jonathan Quick out for approximately three months and Jeff Zatkof also on the shelf. The Jets would have to eat some of the $4 million still owed to Pavelec, but it seems they may be willing to do it. Stay tuned.

Ondrej Pavelec has passed through waivers and has been assigned to AHL Manitoba.

Brian Strait, Julian Melchiori and Anthony Peluso cleared waivers Tuesday and they have been sent down as well.

Ondrej Pavelec has been placed on waivers by the Winnipeg Jets.

The Jets plan to send Pavelec to AHL Manitoba if he clears. That means Michael Hutchinson and Connor Hellebuyck will begin the campaign as the Jets' goaltenders. Pavelec still has a season left on his five-year, $19.5 million deal, but while this move is surprising, it's not unreasonable. Pavelec struggled last season with a 2.78 GAA and .904 save percentage in 33 games and has just generally been a mixed bag throughout the life of his contract.

TSN correspondent Gary Lawless thinks there's something "afoot" in Winnipeg in regards to Ondrej Pavelec.

We all know the much-maligned Pavelec's control of the crease has been tenuous at best the past couple of seasons in Winnipeg, and with this being his final season of a contract that dings the cap at $3.9M, it wouldn't be surprising to see a move get made. As Lawless aptly notes, Pavelec has "played one game in six months" and he wasn't Team Czech Republic's netminder either. Lawless also points out that the Jets' pre-season plan was to give each of Pavelec, Michael Hutchinson and Connor Hellebuyck two games but Hutchinson is playing tonight in what would have been Pavelec's second game. Whether it's a trade, waivers, or otherwise, we'll keep you posted.

Coach Paul Maurice is open to carrying three goaltenders at the start of the season.

He emphasized that no decision has been made yet and that scenario was purely hypothetical. Maurice said that a rotation could be used in that case or his starter could play 72 games. There are still plenty of question marks surrounding Winnipeg's goalie situation. Ondrej Pavelec, Michael Hutchinson and Connor Hellebuyck have all played well at training camp while competing for the number one job.

Ondrej Pavelec made 31 stops to foil the Flames Sunday night in pre-season action in Winnipeg's 4-0 win.

Pavelec, who went 13-13-4 last season, will be in a battle for ice time throughout the season with up-and-comers Connor Hellebuyck and Michael Hutchinson. Nonetheless, the 29-year-old showed in 2014-15 that he has the ability to be a good goaltender, and nights like Sunday will help his case staking claim to the Jets' crease.

The Jets' goaltending battle will be a three-way affair with Ondrej Pavelec attempting to fend off challengers Connor Hellebuyck and Michael Hutchinson.

It would be great for the Jets and coach Paul Maurice if one of Pavelec, Hellebuyck and Hutchinson could establish himself and run with the starting job, but it is likely the Jets will at least start the campaign in a job-share situation. It remains to be seen who will share that job with Pavelec. Stay tuned.

Ondrej Pavelec will be joined by Tomas Kundratek and Michal Birnir in the grand stands for Saturday's match with Canada.

Pavelec, who has already been declared as the Czech Republic's third-string goalie, probably won't see much action. Kundratek and Birnir meanwhile ought to stay ready as short tournaments can result in big lineup changes, especially if the losses start piling up.

Ondrej Pavelec has already been declared as the Czech Republic's third goaltender.

The battle for the top job will be between Petr Mrazek and Michal Neuvirth. "The tournament is short and there is no time to let all three goalies play," coach Josef Jandac said. "We are planning to have only two goaltenders in the games and Ondrej Pavelec will be the third one." Pavelec said he "was aware of the situation" and he is "cool with it." He also understands that anything can happen and he could get an opportunity.

Ondrej Pavelec won't play in the World Championships for the Czech Republic.

A report on a Czech news website said that Pavelec didn't pass his end-of-season medical due to a knee problem, but the Jets denied part of that. Pavelec did pass his test, but was advised to rest his ailing knee over the summer because he will be participating in September's World Cup of Hockey.

Ondrej Pavelec ended his crummy season with a 4-3 shootout win over the Kings.

Pavelec turned away 26 of 29 shots, including his lone shot on special teams. His record finalizes at 13-13-4 with a .904 save percentage and a 2.78 GAA.
Sun, Apr 10, 2016 03:02:00 AM

Ondrej Pavelec will face the Kings on Saturday night, and not Michael Hutchinson who has the flu.

Pavelec has had the Kings' number this season, splitting two starts while turning aside 61 of 64 combined shots. Nothing like a hot goalie at the end of the week, and Pavelec has won his last two starts, three of his last five, and registered standings points each during the streak.
