Ondrej Pavelec has some serious competition building up behind him in Winnipeg's crease.
Pavelec was able to wrestle the starting job back from rookie Michael Hutchinson late in the season, but his rocky play in the postseason has allowed his doubters to resurface again. Winnipeg also appears to have a great prospect in Connor Hellebuyck, who enjoyed a spectacular year in 2014-15, and Eric Comrie is in the fold as well. That's plenty of young competition to either push Pavelec to be better or to replace him in the immediate future. He has two seasons remaining on his contract. Jun 24 - 11:30 AM

The Czech Republic lost to Canada 2-0 in the WHC semifinal, but it would be silly to blame Ondrej Pavelec.

Pavelec allowed a goal he would've like to have back against Jason Spezza, but a 2-0 deficit could have been much larger if not for him. He stopped 39 out of 41 shots in this loss.
May 16 - 4:15 PM

It certainly wasn't Ondrej Pavelec's fault that the Czech Republic couldn't defeat Canada in the IIHF World Hockey Championships on Saturday.

The host Czechs were hoping to advance to the gold medal game but lost to Canada 2-0. Pavelec, however, was spectacular in the Czech net stopping 39 shots and kept his countrymen in a game they had no business competing in. Pavelec finished the 2014-2015 season strong. He has teased us before with his potential but perhaps he has finally turned the corner. If so, Pavelec will make a nice mid-round selection in most hockey pool formats next season.
May 16 - 1:35 PM

Ondrej Pavelec allowed four goals on 34 shots in the Jets season ending 5-2 loss on Wednesday.

The third goal to Ryan Kesler was the biggest back-breaker for the Jets in this contest. Pavelec did not have a good series, allowing 15 goals over the four games. He was outplayed in every single game by his counterpart Frederik Andersen. His career playoff record is 0-4 with a shoddy 3.71 GAA and .891 save percentage.
Apr 23 - 2:29 AM

The Jets will turn to Ondrej Pavelec once again for Wednesday night’s Game 4 matchup with the Ducks.

Down 3-0 in the series, the Jets will need Pavelec to be much better than he has been so far through three games. He has allowed 11 goals on 103 shots so far and has succumbed to a blown lead in the third period in each game. Pavelec will try to get the franchise’s first playoff win since moving to Winnipeg back in 1996, including their time as the Atlanta Thrashers. They’re 0-7 all-time in the postseason.

Apr 22 - 5:32 PM

Ondrej Pavelec led the charge to break Winnipeg fans' hearts again, stopping just 26 shots in their 5-4 overtime loss to Anaheim. The Ducks now lead the series 3-0.

This is the third straight game the Jets have blown a lead in the third period, and the fact is that Pavelec needs to be better if Winnipeg is to even have a prayer at a miracle run, or at least exit with dignity. Pavelec has stopped just 92 of 103 shots through three games.
Apr 21 - 1:35 AM

Ondrej Pavelec will be between the pipes for Game 3 Monday night against the Ducks.

The Jets are trying to tread water against the top seed in the Western Conference, but Pavelec will not be to blame if the Jets lose the series to the Ducks. The Jets 27-year-old netminder has been peppered with 72 shots in two games versus the Ducks, stopping 66 of them; his only two playoff games of his career.
Apr 20 - 5:19 PM

Ondrej Pavelec stopped 37 shots as the Jets fell to the Ducks 2-1 in Game 2 of their first-round series Saturday night.

Two games, two third-period comebacks for the Ducks. In Game 1, the Jets held a 2-1 lead in the third, and here they led 1-0. Pavelec was brilliant in this game, even if he didn’t get the win. Anaheim scored the goals on 17 third-period shots, and he kept them in the game in the first, when he also faced 17. Pavelec had a 2.28 goals-against average and .920 save percentage during the regular season. The series shifts to Winnipeg with the Jets down 2-0.
Apr 19 - 1:38 AM

Ondrej Pavelec is starting between the pipes for the Jets on Saturday against the Ducks.

Not surprising as Pavelec played well down the stretch for Winnipeg. He gave up four goals on 33 shots in Game 1, however. In 50 games during the regular season, Pavelec had a 2.28 goals-against average and .920 save percentage.
Apr 18 - 10:11 PM

Look for Ondrej Pavelec to get the start in Game 2 against the Ducks Saturday night.

Not a big surprise as Pavelec was one of the major reasons the Jets made it into the playoffs in the first place. He is coming off a 29-save 4-2 loss in Game 1, though, and will have to be better against a very strong Anaheim squad especially in the third period when he allowed three goals on just 10 shots.
Apr 18 - 1:02 PM

Ondrej Pavelec was only able to make 29 saves during Thursday's 4-2 Game One loss to Anaheim.

While one could say that Pavelec didn't receive enough help at either end of the ice, he simply did not look comfortable in net. He was beaten three times on 10 shots in the third period, including two power play tallies. It was Pavelec's first career playoff game, so perhaps cut him a bit of slack heading into Game Two.
Apr 17 - 1:59 AM

Ondrej Pavelec will get the start in game one of Winnipeg's first round series against Anaheim on Thursday.

The 27-year-old has had an up and down NHL career, but he really took off at the end of the regular season. Pavelec has never played in an NHL playoff game but he does have some post-season experience in the minors. He posted a 16-8 record with a 2.34 goals-against-average and a .921 save percentage with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL playoffs in 2007-08. It will be interesting to see if he can translate his regular season success to playoff success.
Apr 16 - 6:11 PM

Ondrej Pavelec was perfect through overtime, making 21 saves. However he was anything but in the shootout as the Avalanche took the game 1-0 on Thursday night.

Pavelec was sharp, stopping all 17 even strength shots and all four special teams shots sent his way. Unfortunately, he couldn't make a save in the shootout. The loss drops Pavelec's record to 22-16-8 with a .920 save percentage and a 2.28 GAA.
Apr 9 - 11:58 PM

Ondrej Pavelec will get the start in Thursday's game against the Colorado Avalanche.

Pavelec is playing the best hockey of his career as he's posted back-to-back shutouts against Minnesota and St. Louis coming into tonight's action. The Jets control their own destiny but they have yet to clinch a playoff spot just yet (a win tonight would do the trick). The 27-year-old has a 22-16-7 record with a 2.34 goals-against-average and a .919 save percentage in 49 games.
Apr 9 - 6:16 PM

Ondrej Pavelec blanked the Blues on 30 saves in Tuesday's 1-0 win.

Don't look now, but Pavelec is now the hottest goalie in the NHL. And the Jets are now three points up on the Kings for the final Wild Card slot. It was Pavelec's fourth shutout of the season, and his record improves to 22-16-7 with a .919 save percentage and a 2.34 GAA. He's also 9-3-0 over his last dozen starts with three shutouts and 19 combined goals against.
