Karri Ramo tested negatively for the mumps.
That was good news as Ramo was only suffering from an illness. He skated with the team on Friday and could return to the cage as early as Saturday in Vancouver. He is 8-5-1 with a 2.69 GAA and a .903 save percentage. With the Flames in a seven game tailspin, coach Bob Hartley could go back to Ramo. Stay tuned. Dec 20 - 7:09 AM

Karri Ramo (illness) took part in Friday's morning skate.

Ramo missed Thursday's practice due to the sickness. He should be fine to backup Jonas Hiller on Friday.

Karri Ramo missed Thursday's practice due to an illness.

Although the Flames have no reason to suspect that Ramo has the mumps, he's being tested for it. The Flames just want to err on the side of caution given the outbreak that's impacted at least 15 NHL players so far. Ramo won't get the start on Friday even if he's healthy as Jonas Hiller was already penciled in to start in that contest.

Dec 19 - 10:01 AM

Karri Ramo got the hook in the second period after allowing four goals on 13 shots in Tuesday's tilt with the Rangers.

The Flames as an entire team looked tired as the speed of the Rangers was apparent on three of the Rangers four goals early in this game. Ramo wasn't the problem but he sure wasn't the solution as the Flames needed a spark to get them going. Jonas Hiller came in to spell Ramo for the rest of the night.
Dec 16 - 10:50 PM

Karri Ramo will be in net for the Flames as they welcome the Rangers Tuesday night.

The Flames have lost five in a row, and have fallen out of the playoff picture during that time. That being said, they sit third in a three-way tie with LA and Winnipeg for both Wild Card slots. Calgary also sits just two points behind San Jose and Vancouver in the Pacific division. So as bad as things are looking, even a brief winning streak can reestablish the Flames as playoff contenders.

Dec 16 - 8:47 PM

Karri Ramo is slated to start Sunday night in Chicago for the Flames.

Ramo will have yet another opportunity to steal the crease away from the would-be primary starter Jonas Hiller as there's only a four-start difference between the two.
Dec 12 - 5:40 PM

Karri Ramo allowed four goals on 19 shots in the Flames' 4-3 loss to Buffalo on Thursday night.

It was a shaky night for Ramo, who has allowed seven goals in his past two games, both losses. The 28-year-old Finn is 8-4-1 this season with a .911 save percentage and 2.50 goals against average.
Dec 11 - 10:35 PM

Karri Ramo kicked away 27 shots in the Flames’ 3-2 loss to the Sharks on Saturday night.

Ramo gave up two in the second and one in the third period. The 28-year-old has gotten the bulk of the starts lately, but it will be interesting to see whether he makes his sixth straight after this performance, Tuesday at the Maple Leafs. Ramo had won six games in a row. He’s at a 2.37 goals-against average and .917 save percentage on the year.
Dec 7 - 1:00 AM

Karri Ramo will be between the pipes when Calgary welcomes San Jose to their barn.

Both teams are coming off wild come-from-behind victories so it'll be interesting to see how this one plays out. Either way, Ramo's .918 save percentage and 2.31 GAA should lend some insight.

Dec 6 - 5:44 PM

Karri Ramo stopped 26-29 Colorado sent his way in Calgary's 4-3 overtime victory.

Full marks to Alex Tanguay's shake'n'bake move to give Colorado the 3-2 lead late in the second, but otherwise Ramo was strong. Ramo now is now 8-2 on the season, just one win behind supposed starter Jonas Hiller.
Dec 5 - 1:25 AM

Karri Ramo stopped 27-of-29 shots to back stop Calgary in a 5-2 win over Arizona on Tuesday.

Ramo came in red hot with two straight shutouts and was solid enough again to help his team earn the win over a punch-less Coyotes team. Ramo has a 7-2-1 record to go with 2.25 goals against average and .921 save percentage this season. He is successfully taking a lot of starts away from Jonas Hiller who was brought in over the off-season to presumably be the starter.
Dec 3 - 12:25 AM

Karri Ramo is approaching the Calgary Flames' shutout streak record.

Ramo has gone 134:34 minutes without allowing a goal. The team record is 164:40 minutes set by Mike Vernon in Dec. 1992. Ramo will have a chance to break that record on Tuesday when he plays between the pipes against Arizona.

Dec 2 - 9:41 AM

Karri Ramo was the third star of the week for the period ending Nov. 30.

He posted a 2-0-0 record and he turned aside all 58 shots he faced in victories over San Jose and Arizona. The goose eggs with Ramo's first two of the season. He's been solid for the Flames when called upon and with Jonas Hiller slumping at the moment, he may get some more opportunities.
Dec 1 - 2:40 PM

Karri Ramo blanked the Coyotes with 26 saves Saturday night in Calgary’s 3-0 win.

Jonas Hiller has given up three or more goals in five straight contests, so it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see Ramo get some more time after his second straight shutout. He has four victories in a row. Ramo has a 2.28 goals-against average and .919 save percentage this season.
Nov 30 - 12:47 AM

Kari Ramo will get the start in goal Saturday when the Flames play the Arizona Coyotes.

Ramo shut out the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday so coach Bob Hartley is going right back to the netminder. Ramo has won three straight games and is 5-2-1 this season for the surprisingly strong Flames. He has a 2.54 GAA and a .911 save percentage. Start Ramo if you normally would.
