Joel Ward scored a goal midway through the third period to help the Sharks defeat the Ducks 2-1 in a shootout on Saturday night.
Ward has now scored two goals in three games since sitting out five consecutive games as a healthy scratch. He has just the two points in eight games on the season. The Sharks are looking for him to regain his 20-goal season form, but he has to get going soon if he has any hope of reaching that plateau. Nov 5 - 1:27 AM

Oct 20 - 7:00 PM

Joel Ward (shoulder) hasn't gotten into a preseason game yet.

Ward underwent shoulder surgery over the summer. He has been practicing during training camp, but obviously getting into a game would be a better test. San Jose still has two contests before the start of the regular season, so he could get into one of those games.
Sep 26 - 10:09 AM

Joel Ward has undergone shoulder surgery.

Ward was dealing with a minor shoulder injury during the 2017-18 campaign. He had 10 goals and 28 points in 78 contests this season. He should be fine for the start of the 2017-18 campaign.
May 19 - 4:39 PM

Joel Ward is getting Saturday's game off.

That will allow Ward to rest before the playoffs. He found the back of the net in each of his previous two games.
Apr 8 - 10:06 PM

Joel Ward scored the game winning goal Tuesday night as the Sharks devoured the Canucks 3-1.

The most notable thing about this game winning goal is that it was scored at the 30-second mark of the first. Ward’s goal came only 12 seconds after Kevin Labanc sunk a puck only 18 seconds into the game. This was the fastest in franchise history that the Sharks scored two goals.
Apr 5 - 1:45 AM

Joel Ward has been in a real scoring funk.

He has not registered a point in eight games and has only 27 in 75 games this season. This is quite a fall from the 43 points he recorded in his first campaign in San Jose. We are not surprised, however, that Ward has regressed as we thought 2015-16 was an aberration for him.
Apr 1 - 1:36 PM

Joel Ward has been made a late scratch on Friday against the Flames.

Through 75 games this season the veteran winger has picked up eight goals and 27 points along with 54 blocks and 59 hits.

Joel Ward found the back of the net in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Dallas Stars.

He put an end to his nine-game goalless drought in the process. Ward essentially put the game to bed by giving his team a 3-1 lead at the 2:46 mark of the second period. The veteran winger has eight goals and 18 assists in 66 games this season.

Feb 16 - 5:16 AM

Joel Ward picked up a goal and assisted on another in a 5-4 loss to Minnesota on Thursday.

It's just his second multi-point game of the season for Ward who saw time on the top power-play unit in an obvious attempt to get him going offensively. That's just 12 points in 37 games for Ward. Brent Burns added two assists while Patrick Marleau also had a multi-point night.
Jan 6 - 3:33 AM

Joel Ward practiced on the Sharks' top power play unit on Wednesday.

He took Patrick Marleau's spot with Brent Burns, Joe Thornton, Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture. Ward's production has dropped significantly this season, so this might be a way to get him going. He has just two goals and eight assists in 33 games, after posting 21 goals and 43 points last season.

Joel Ward will tag in for Tommy Wingels against the Oilers on Friday night.

These two wingers have had similar season thus far. Ward has posted just nine points with 24 blocks and 30 hits in 31 games. Wingels meanwhile has six points with 51 hits. Ward at least has a history of scoring as a solid second-line player, though.
