Joel Ward picked up a goal and assisted on another in a 5-4 loss to Minnesota on Thursday.
It's just his second multi-point game of the season for Ward who saw time on the top power-play unit in an obvious attempt to get him going offensively. That's just 12 points in 37 games for Ward. Brent Burns added two assists while Patrick Marleau also had a multi-point night. Jan 6 - 3:33 AM

Joel Ward practiced on the Sharks' top power play unit on Wednesday.

He took Patrick Marleau's spot with Brent Burns, Joe Thornton, Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture. Ward's production has dropped significantly this season, so this might be a way to get him going. He has just two goals and eight assists in 33 games, after posting 21 goals and 43 points last season.

Joel Ward will tag in for Tommy Wingels against the Oilers on Friday night.

These two wingers have had similar season thus far. Ward has posted just nine points with 24 blocks and 30 hits in 31 games. Wingels meanwhile has six points with 51 hits. Ward at least has a history of scoring as a solid second-line player, though.

Joel Ward will be a healthy scratch again on Tuesday night.

It will be the second time he has watched from the press box in three games. "I thought he did a good job. I saw some good things," coach Peter DeBoer said of Ward's performance on Sunday. "We talked to him about that. Definitely a step in the right direction." Ward has registered just two goals and nine points in 31 games this season.

Joel Ward scored the game winner at 14:42 in the first period as the San Jose Sharks beat Chicago Blackhawks 2-1 Wednesday night.

Ward’s shot came as the Sharks skated shorthanded and it gave them a two-goal lead as the first period ended. Logan Couture scored the first goal of the night on a power play a little more than three minutes earlier. Don’t expect a lot of production in the next several games, however; this was only the second goal of the season and the first since October 15th. Ward has played in 17 games since.

Joel Ward will play alongside Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski on Tuesday night.

Tomas Hertl had been occupying that spot, but he will be moved to the third line with Patrick Marleau and Mikkel Boedker. Ward has produced just one goal in 12 games this season. He is currently on a 10-game scoring drought.

Joel Ward was okay after being hit by Mike Ribeiro.

It happened in the third period and Ward went to the concussion room as per protocol but was able to return before the end of the game. Ward has only one goal this season in nine games with a nasty minus-five rating. He should not be in your lineup at this time but is capable of getting hot.

Joel Ward scored another big goal Saturday as his third period marker tied the game at two.

The goal was Ward's seventh of the post-season and it sent the game into overtime where Joonas Donskoi popped the game-winner to give the Sharks their first ever win in Stanley Cup Final play. Ward has been terrific in the playoffs and his off-season signing by the Sharks has paid dividends throughout the regular season and into the playoffs. He is a late-round pick at best next season in deeper pools.

Joel Ward believes number 22 should be retired throughout the NHL in honor of Willie O'Ree.

O'Ree was the first black hockey player to play in the NHL. "I definitely think Willie should be recognized for sure," Ward said. "The league obviously does that with task force but I do think that Willie should definitely be a big part of the league for sure for what he did. It’s a no-brainer. Without Willie, it would be tough for me to be sitting here today. I definitely think Willie should be a big part of this." Ward wears number 42 in honor of Jackie Robinson.
