Joel Ward's two-point game wasn't enough for the San Jose Sharks, who fell to the Dallas Stars by a score of 5-3 on Saturday.

Ward scored a goal and an assist in this one. Ward now has six goals and four assists for 10 points in as many games, certainly delivering nicely as he gets his feet wet with San Jose.

Joel Ward is leading the Sharks in goals and points, eight games into the season

Hands up if you had Joe Ward penciled in as the leader in goals and points among the San Jose Sharks, eight games into the season. All eight points have come at even strength. The utilitarian winger scored his second career hat trick including his 100th career goal in his last game versus Carolina, while adding two more over a four-game span playing with Tomas Hertl and Patrick Marleau. Early dividends are paying off as he starts off year one of a three-year contract inked over the summer.
Oct 28 - 8:49 PM

Joel Ward recorded his second career hat trick in the Sharks’ 5-2 win against the Hurricanes on Saturday night.

Ward scored the game’s first two goals in the first period, then completed the feat with an empty-netter late in the third. He has proved to be an excellent addition, now with five goals and eight points in eight games. Though, we do not expect this pace to continue as Ward has never eclipsed 25 goals or 50 points in his career. Tommy Wingels and Joe Pavelski got the other goals, with Patrick Marleau and Brent Burns recording two assists apiece.
Oct 25 - 1:21 AM

Joel Ward saw first line time on the power play in practice Friday.

Coach Peter DeBoer said it was a reward for playing well on Thursday as Ward was the Sharks only goal scorer. It remains to be seen if it will carry through to Saturday's game against the Hurricanes. Ward has two goals and five points this season in seven games. He is worth a shot on the waiver wire in deep leagues.
Oct 24 - 9:51 AM

Joel Ward scored his second goal of the season, unfortunately it wasn't enough as the Sharks fell to the Kings 4-1 on Thursday.

It was a sweet goal by the veteran winger, who went backhand-shelf from with a defender all over him to get the Sharks their only tally of the game. He now has two goals and five points on the young season.
Oct 23 - 1:27 AM

Joel Ward will face his former team, the Washington Capitals, on Tuesday.

Ward signed a three-year, $9.75 million contract with San Jose in July. He's off to a great start with the Sharks as he's registered two assists in two games. "Obviously I've been there a few years so a lot of friends and teammates, and even in the community. It’s going to be a good time," Ward said. "I'd really like a big win, for sure. Hopefully we can get two points, but it will definitely be fun to be back there again."
Oct 13 - 11:29 AM

Joel Ward is projected to make his San Jose debut on the second line.

That will place him alongside Patrick Marleau and Logan Couture. Ward signed a three-year contract worth $9.75 million with the Sharks in the summer.
Oct 7 - 5:08 PM

Joel Ward lit the lamp for the Sharks in their 2-1 preseason loss to the Ducks on Saturday night.

Ward is a fringy fantasy option at best as he posted 19 goals and 34 points last season. Martin Jones sticked aside 19 of the 21 shots he faced in the loss.
Sep 26 - 11:41 PM

Joel Ward is expected to provide the Sharks with some depth scoring in 2015-16.

San Jose has had issues in that regard over the past few seasons. Ward may line up alongside Logan Couture on the second line or with Chris Tierney on the third unit. He generated 19 goals and 34 points in 82 games with Washington last season. In 2013-14, Ward collected 24 markers and 25 assists. If he plays with Couture then he could be worth a flier.
Aug 26 - 2:20 PM

Joel Ward has signed a three-year contract worth $9.75M with the San Jose Sharks.

Ward is coming off a four-year, $12M contract with Washington where he set a career high in goals (24) and points (49) in 2013-14. In all, Ward accumulated 57 goals and 121 points over four seasons and 276 games with Washington. Therefore he doesn't represent a great fantasy option now in the West for standard leagues. For deeper leagues, bear in mind Ward is entering his age-35 season.
Jul 3 - 5:21 PM

The Washington Capitals signing of Justin Williams makes it highly unlikely that Joel Ward will be returning to the team.

Ward is also an unrestricted free agent and while he was a valuable asset to the Capitals last season with 19 goals and 34 points, he will likely be taking his talents elsewhere. He reportedly had six teams interested in his services last week so it remains to be seen where he will end up.
Jul 2 - 10:08 AM

Joel Ward is attracting interest during the free agent window shopping period.

He reportedly has six teams, with four in the East and two out West, that have asked to meet so far. Ward can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 after he potted 19 goals and 34 points in 82 games last season.
Jun 25 - 1:08 PM

Joel Ward looks like he will become an unrestricted free agent.

The two sides don't appear to be seeing eye-to-eye when it comes to the term of the deal. Ward is believed to be seeking a four-year pact. He generated 19 goals and 34 points in 82 games this past season.
Jun 22 - 4:53 PM

Joel Ward wouldn't hesitate to sign with the Capitals before July 1.

Of course for that to happen Washington would have to meet his contract demands. If a new deal isn't reached before Ward becomes an unrestricted free agent then he is still interested in coming back to the Capitals.
