Frans Nielsen recorded his third goal of the season in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to Tampa Bay.

The marker ended an eight-game goalless drought. Nielsen was held scoreless in six of those contests and he contributed three assists in the other two. He has collected eight points in 17 matches.
Nov 16 - 10:13 AM

The Red Wings seem to be going with Frans Nielsen on their second power-play unit.

He will skate alongside Andreas Athanasiou, Dylan Larkin, Justin Abdelkader and Brendan Smith. Detroit's first unit was comprised of Gustav Nyqvist, Henrik Zetterberg, Tomas Tatar, Mike Green and Niklas Kronwall. Adjust your roster accordingly.

Frans Nielsen's two assists weren't enough to help the Red Wings in a 5-2 loss to Florida on Sunday.

Nielsen is off to a fine start with the Wings, notching six points in his first 10 games. The 32-year-old is on pace to finish around the 50-point mark once again this season.
Oct 30 - 8:52 PM

Frans Nielsen scored in Detroit's 2-1 shootout win over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night.

Nielsen's shorthanded goal tied the game at one at the 13:54 mark of the second period. The two teams remained tied through regulation and overtime and it took an eight-round shootout to crown a winner (Henrik Zetteberg scored the winner for Detroit). Nielsen has two goals and two assists in eight games in his first season with the Wings.
Oct 28 - 12:49 AM

Frans Nielsen has three points in seven games with the Red Wings.

"He's been excellent for us in a lot of ways," said coach Jeff Blashill. "He makes a lot of good little plays both offensively and defensively. His game will get better as he gets more comfortable." Nielsen had a goal and an assist in his Detroit debut, but he has been quiet offensively since then.
Oct 27 - 8:00 AM

Frans Nielsen collected a goal and an assist in his Red Wings debut Thursday night.

He picked up a helper on Thomas Vanek's power-play goal and scored his even-strength tally in the second to give Detroit a 3-1 lead. However, the Lightning stormed back in the third and claimed a 6-4 victory.
Oct 14 - 8:08 AM

Frans Nielsen will open the regular season with Henrik Zetterberg as his winger.

"They're both veteran players," coach Jeff Blashill said. "Z will spend a lot of time in low coverage, he'll take faceoffs if needed." Detroit still has to fill most of the combinations, but pairings have emerged as the roster starts to take shape. Nielsen and Zetterberg play strong two-way games, so they could see plenty of time against the opposition's top lines in 2016-17.
Oct 6 - 7:54 AM

Detroit is expected to get back Frans Nielsen, Thomas Vanek and Tomas Tatar this week.

The trio represented Team Europe at the World Cup of Hockey. They will probably make their preseason debuts on Saturday.
Oct 4 - 9:46 AM

Wings GM Ken Holland feels newly signed forward Frans Nielsen is a 200-foot player.

"He’s been in the New York Islanders as a top two-line center," Holland said. "He’s had a lot of responsibility, offensively and defensively, we feel he’s a 200-foot player. He fits the type of player we look for here in Detroit and quality person. We did a lot of checking and talked to a lot of people and everything we got on and off the ice was top notch." The 32-year-old had 20 goals and 52 points in 81 games last season.
Jul 3 - 11:22 AM

The Detroit Red Wings have signed Frans Nielsen to a six-year, $31.5 million contract.

Well Wings' GM Ken Holland said he was going to spend the money he saved with the retirement of Pavel Datsyuk, and he did. Nielsen is no star, but he is a solid veteran forward, who at age 32 is still an effective offensive contributor. Over his 606-game career, Nielsen has scored 119 goals and registered 349 points. He should play in the Wings' top six.
Jul 2 - 9:38 AM

Frans Nielsen reportedly turned down a contract offer from the Islanders worth $5.5 million per season.

Sources had indicated that the two sides were closer to a new deal that would likely be six or seven years. Nielsen can become an unrestricted free agent on Friday, but he still could sign with the Islanders after listening to some offers from other teams.
Jun 27 - 5:09 PM

The New York Islanders would love to re-sign Frans Nielsen.

Nielsen is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. GM Garth Snow said that he talked to Nielsen's agent within the last week and while they have moved closer to a deal, nothing is imminent. Nielsen had 20 goals and 52 points and that could be hard to replace should he bolt to greener pastures. Nielsen should be a 20 goal, 50 point player once again next season so draft him accordingly.
Jun 25 - 8:42 AM

Frans Nielsen isn't sure if he'll be back with the Islanders next season, but he would like to be.

"It's going to be a little bit interesting. It's a weird feeling, for sure, not knowing if you're going to be back or not," he said. "I love being here and I would love to be back. We'll see what happens." His agent has been involved in some calls with GM Garth Snow, but there have been no contract negotiations. Nielsen can become an unrestricted free agent in July.
May 16 - 9:10 AM

With the Islanders eliminated from the playoffs, Nielsen has completed his four-year, $11 million contract. He's likely to get a raise after his solid 2015-16 campaign where he scored 20 goals and 52 points in 81 contests.
