Frans Nielsen has not disappointed as Detroit's second-line center this season.

Detroit didn't fare as well with additions like Stephen Weiss and Brad Richards, but Nielsen has enjoyed a solid start. "He's been what we thought," coach Jeff Blashill said. "He's a competitor, he competes extremely hard. He plays in all different facets of the game. He's very good defensively, very good on the power play. He's been a real good player for us overall." He has been playing with Thomas Vanek and Gustav Nyquist recently, while generating eight goals and 18 points in 34 matches.
