Frans Nielsen (leg) is questionable for Tuesday's game.

Nielsen sustained the injury on Sunday, although he was able to return before the conclusion of that contest. If he can't play, then the Islanders might dress seven defensemen and 11 forwards, which would likely lead to Brian Strait coming out of the press box.
Feb 23 - 2:07 PM

Frans Nielsen is expected to have his left leg evaluated on Monday.

Nielsen briefly left Sunday's contest due to the ailment. Islanders coach Jack Capuano cautioned though that this ailment might not be behind Nielsen. "We'll see how he is [Monday] before we decide what to do," Capuano said. Nielsen has 11 goals and 36 points in 61 contests this season.
Feb 23 - 11:16 AM

Frans Nielsen had a goal and an assist in a 6-5 loss to the Rangers on Monday.

Nielsen has six points in his last six games. That's brought him up to 11 goals and 33 points in 57 contests in 2014-15. Despite his recent hot streak, he's likely to come up well short of his 2013-14 totals of 25 goals and 58 points in 80 contests.
Feb 17 - 11:12 AM

Frans Nielsen will play in his 500th career NHL game on Sunday.

Nielsen leads all Danish players in games played and is having a nice season with nine goals and 28 points but it's not close to the 25 goal and 58 point effort of last season. Of course, he played on the top line in 2013-14 and is not doing so this season so that's a big reason for the decline. Congratulations to the 30-year-old on his accomplishment.
Feb 8 - 10:05 AM

Frans Nielsen scored a goal in the Islanders' 3-0 win over the Rangers on Tuesday.

Nielsen snapped a five-game point drought. He has nine goals and 22 points in 43 contests this season.
Jan 14 - 9:26 AM

Frans Nielsen scored two goals and collected an assist in the Islanders' 5-2 win over the Jets on Wednesday night.

Nielsen's first goal was as lucky as it gets, as Johnny Boychuk's stick exploded on a slapper but sent the puck directly to Nielsen on the backdoor anyway. It was essentially a first period empty net power play goal. His second goal though was on a sweet one-timer feed from Ryan Strome to give the Isles their second two-goal lead. Nielsen now has nine of his 21 points on the power play.

Frans Nielsen’s goal was the difference-maker in the Islanders’ 1-0 win over the Coyotes on Saturday night.

Nielsen scored with 2:31 left in the third period, with assists going to Mikhail Grabovski and Thomas Hickey. The goal marked his first point in six games, and now gives him five on the year, with nine points. He figures to be a solid forward in fantasy leagues as someone who can get around 25 goals and 50 points.

Frans Nielsen scored three times in the Islanders’ 7-5 win against the Stars on Saturday night.

Incredibly, Nielsen, with the help of the empty-netter, recorded his hat trick in the third period. He now has four goals and seven points in eight games this season, and should be able to score around 25 with 55-60 points by the time this campaign comes to a close. A trio of players registered a goal-assist performance: Lubomir Visnovsky, Brock Nelson and Nikolai Kulemin. Anders Lee rounded out the scoring. Mikhail Grabovski got two helpers. Good news for the Islanders: They score seven goals and John Tavares didn’t need to record a point, and in fact, had just one shot on goal.

Frans Nielsen expressed his excitement on the Isles' offseason moves on Thursday after practice, saying that there will be increased competition for ice time with the new free-agent signings.

"I really like what we did," Nielsen said of the Mikhail Grabovski and Nikolai Kulemin signings. "I think we're going to be a really tough team to match up against because we'll have so much offensive firepower, so many guys who can step up and do it." The Isles had a few capable offensive players last season, but after John Tavares and Kyle Okposo, not many produced points consistently. With a 58 point breakout year last season, Nielsen and the newcomers will try and make the Isles a more dangerous offensive team beyond the first line.
