Frans Nielsen said that the Islanders need to make sure that their improvements carry over into next year.
"We've got to realize that what we did down the stretch this year, we have to do it from Day 1 next year and we've got to do it for 82 games," he said Tuesday morning. "It only gets tougher from here. Teams are going to be even more prepared for us." Making the playoffs is a great accomplishment, but it has to be earned each year and the Islanders will need to stay consistent for longer stretches to make sure they remain as a team on the rise. Date:

Frans Nielsen will be in action for the New York Islanders in Game 6 on Saturday.

He's an underrated two-way player with solid scoring ability, so definitely put him in your lineup if available.
May 11 - 7:02 PM

Frans Nielsen's status for Saturday's pivotal Game 6 is unknown.

He sustained a lower-body injury in Thursday's game and did not skate on Friday. At best, we are pegging Nielsen as a game-time decision. If you have other options on your playoff roster we would avail ourselves of them.

Frans Nielsen (lower body) will be a game-time decision for Saturday's do-or-die game against Pittsburgh.

The Islanders have to win to force a Game 7 back in Pittsburgh, but they may have to do it without the services of Nielsen, who was hurt on Thursday.
May 10 - 4:12 PM

Frans Nielsen left Thursday night's game in the third period with a lower-body injury.

There wasn't an update on his status after Game 5 and so it's unclear if he will be available to play Saturday in Game 6 when the Islanders face elimination from the playoffs. Nielsen has 13 shots and two assists in five postseason games.

Frans Nielsen had a goal and registered an assist in a 5-4 shootout win.

Apr 20 - 6:08 PM

The Islanders are getting solid prodcution from their second line featuring Frans Nielsen, Kyle Okposo and Josh Bailey.

For a good part of the season the John Tavares, Matt Moulson and Brad Boyes unit was supplying most of the team's offense. However, over the last 10 games the Islanders are getting contributions from the Bailey line. If Nielsen or any of his linemates are available in your hockey pool consider making a claim for them as they could make fine 10-12th forwards in your lineup.
Apr 6 - 10:57 AM

Frans Nielsen registered two assists in the Islanders’ 3-1 win over the Devils Monday night.

The two-way forward is generally more valuable in reality than fantasy. With the two helpers tonight, the underrated Nielsen now has 20 points in 36 games in this 48-game shortened season. He has some value in very deep leagues that also reward shorthanded points, but his inconsistency and lack of goals limits his fantasy worth.
Apr 1 - 9:40 PM

Frans Nielsen is as good as they come in shootouts and he scored again for the Islanders Sunday in a 3-2 win over Ottawa.

He is most efficient shootout scorer among those with at least 13 attempts since the league adopted the format. Nielsen is 25-for-40 in his career. He has two goals on 44 shots and eight assists in 22 games this campaign.
Mar 4 - 11:51 AM

He will join the team before the end of the week. Nielsen's four-year deal worth $11 million, which was signed with the Islanders in February, will kick in when play resumes.

Frans Nielsen scored his 14th goal of the 2011-12 season, setting a new career-high.

That doesn't sound like much, but that's a nice addition to what he really brings to the table - great two-way play. The New York Islanders must be delighted that they re-upped the underrated forward to a contract extension. He might not be worth much in fantasy terms, though.
