Andy Greene was back at practice Friday after missing three days with an undisclosed injury.

The Devils signed Greene during the off-season to a five-year contract and they couldn't be happier as he is thought to be their number one defenseman. He had 32 points last season and should be considered a good 3-4 defenseman in deeper pools.

The New Jersey Devils were thrilled to get Andy Greene signed to a long-term deal.

He inked a five-year, $25 million deal in late July. "No question it was important for us to have Andy long-term," GM Lou Lamoriello said. "If you look at the top defensemen, he carries the most minutes. We have to try and keep ice time away from him to make sure late in the game he isn't tired. Another thing, his leadership goes unnoticed. He's a quiet leader and respected by the players. The young defensemen look up to him. And also, as he mentioned, he's a pure Devil. This is the only team he's been with and this is the team he wanted to be with." Greene will have a new defense partner in 2014-15 after Mark Fayne signed with Edmonton this off-season.
Aug 4 - 9:59 AM

Andy Greene's new contract with the Devils is a five-year, $25 million contract.

Greene still has one season left on his four-year, $12 million deal before his new agreement will take effect. He had 32 points in 82 games last season, making it the second time in the last four 82-game seasons that he's breached the 30-point mark.
Jul 30 - 6:51 PM

Andy Greene has agreed to a long-term deal with the New Jersey Devils.

The Devils didn't disclose the terms of the agreement. Greene had eight goals and 32 points in 82 games in 2013-14. Greene still has one year left on his previous deal, so he will come with a $3 million annual cap hit in 2014-15.
Jul 30 - 4:45 PM

The Devils would like to get Andy Greene locked up to a contract extension this summer.

"We will be talking to Andy," GM Lou Lamoriello said. "Right now, we're letting Andy settle in. He's getting married. We will definitely do our best to keep Andy, by all means." Greene has one season remaining on his current contract.
Jul 3 - 7:00 PM

New Jersey Devils coach Pete DeBoer thinks Andy Greene should have made the United States' Olympic roster.

"I think guys like that have a harder time getting recognized for what they do just because they don't have that flash, unless you watch them closely," DeBoer said. "And there are a lot of players in the league like that. That's probably the case with him." The Devils have been leaning heavily on Greene this season, giving him an average of 25:40 minutes per contest. He has seven goals and 24 points in 57 games this season.
Feb 5 - 2:24 PM

Andy Greene had a goal and two assists on Saturday.

Greene is having an excellent fantasy season with six goals and 20 points in 37 games. He has been hot of late with two goals and five points in his last three tilts. Greene is worthy of a roster spot on your fantasy team in deeper leagues that require at least three defensemen.

Andy Greene had a couple of cuts on his lower lip courtesy of a high stick from Ryan Callahan.

Greene is considering putting on a cage but that remains to be seen. He has four goals and 14 points in 31 games this season so he makes a good 3-4 defenseman in deeper pools.

Andy Greene scored the lone goal for New Jersey in a 3-1 loss to Detroit where the Devils mustered just 11 shots on goal.

Greene played nearly 25 minutes and recorded his 14th point in 30 games this season. The Devils could not get anything going after Greene’s first period marker.

Andy Greene has quietly racked up six points during the last five games.

Greene's career-high is 37 points, and he's on pace to set a new standard in that department come April. One of the main reasons for the uptick in his offensive production is due to recent elevated power play ice-time. During this stretch, he's appearing in just under 50 percent of all Devils' power play opportunities, which has been operating at 22.2 percent efficiency. He's in a bit of a timeshare situation with Marek Zidlicky and Eric Gelinas, but if he can manage to get into the 60 percent range, the offensive production could really skyrocket. He's just 11 percent Yahoo! owned, but could be a decent "sleeper" candidate moving forward.

Andy Greene scored his second goal of the season Saturday.

The defenseman now has seven points this season with a minus-one rating. The 31-year-old defenseman had one very good offensive season with six goals and 37 points in the 2009-10 season but is not a great play in fantasy pools as there are plenty of defensemen who score more.

Andy Greene scored once and assisted on another in the Devils 4-3 win Saturday.

All four Devils goals were on the power play and after a slow start, New Jersey has been 8-25 in their last five games. "Power plays are kind of finicky," Greene said. "They go in spurts, up and down. Right now, we are feeling good about it and it's coming up big for us, keeping us in games and giving us chances." It was Greene's first goal of the season and he now has three points.

Andy Greene, leading New Jersey defensemen in ice time at 23:02 per game, posted a Devils-best plus-12 rating and will play several key roles for New Jersey this season.

Greene, 30, is not flashy, but he’s become the D-man New Jersey coach Pete DeBoer knows he can count on most. DeBoer has been using the 31-year-old Greene as a defense partner and on-ice mentor, if you will, for 19-year-old rookie prospect Damon Severson this preseason.

Devils coach Pete DeBoer thinks Andy Greene enjoyed a "breakout season" in 2013.

Greene had four goals and 16 points in 48 games, which isn't a leap for him offensively, but his dependable defense earned him an average of 23:02 minutes. He should be leaned on heavily again in 2013-14, but we don't expect him to do anything remarkable from a points per game perspective.
