Andy Greene scored the game-winning goal as the New Jersey Devils beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-0 on Saturday.

The 32-year-old now has two goals and 14 points in 63 games this season. Greene seemed like the favorite to be New Jersey's best offensive defenseman this season, but it really hasn't been the case.

Andy Greene scored his first goal of the season on Saturday.

Greene had gone 71 games since his last goal after scoring eight times in 2013-14. "He scored his first goal, but with what he does and what he brings, scoring is not something we worry about," Lou Lamoriello said. "What he and Adam [Larsson] have done playing as a pair, playing against the top line each and every night, you can’t ask for more than what they have brought."

Andy Greene is still looking for his first goal of the season.

Greene had a season-high eight goals in 2013-14, but he's been unsuccessful in 40 shots on goal over 36 contests this season. He's also been limited to nine assists, which leaves him with little to no fantasy value in standard leagues.

Andy Greene (undisclosed) was able to play in New Jersey's season opener.

Greene had an assist and a plus-two rating in 19:42 minutes of ice time. He inked a five-year, $25 million extension in August, but that deal won't kick in until 2015-16.

Andy Greene was back at practice Friday after missing three days with an undisclosed injury.

The Devils signed Greene during the off-season to a five-year contract and they couldn't be happier as he is thought to be their number one defenseman. He had 32 points last season and should be considered a good 3-4 defenseman in deeper pools.

The New Jersey Devils were thrilled to get Andy Greene signed to a long-term deal.

He inked a five-year, $25 million deal in late July. "No question it was important for us to have Andy long-term," GM Lou Lamoriello said. "If you look at the top defensemen, he carries the most minutes. We have to try and keep ice time away from him to make sure late in the game he isn't tired. Another thing, his leadership goes unnoticed. He's a quiet leader and respected by the players. The young defensemen look up to him. And also, as he mentioned, he's a pure Devil. This is the only team he's been with and this is the team he wanted to be with." Greene will have a new defense partner in 2014-15 after Mark Fayne signed with Edmonton this off-season.

Andy Greene's new contract with the Devils is a five-year, $25 million contract.

Greene still has one season left on his four-year, $12 million deal before his new agreement will take effect. He had 32 points in 82 games last season, making it the second time in the last four 82-game seasons that he's breached the 30-point mark.

Andy Greene has agreed to a long-term deal with the New Jersey Devils.

The Devils didn't disclose the terms of the agreement. Greene had eight goals and 32 points in 82 games in 2013-14. Greene still has one year left on his previous deal, so he will come with a $3 million annual cap hit in 2014-15.

The Devils would like to get Andy Greene locked up to a contract extension this summer.

"We will be talking to Andy," GM Lou Lamoriello said. "Right now, we're letting Andy settle in. He's getting married. We will definitely do our best to keep Andy, by all means." Greene has one season remaining on his current contract.

New Jersey Devils coach Pete DeBoer thinks Andy Greene should have made the United States' Olympic roster.

"I think guys like that have a harder time getting recognized for what they do just because they don't have that flash, unless you watch them closely," DeBoer said. "And there are a lot of players in the league like that. That's probably the case with him." The Devils have been leaning heavily on Greene this season, giving him an average of 25:40 minutes per contest. He has seven goals and 24 points in 57 games this season.

Andy Greene had a goal and two assists on Saturday.

Greene is having an excellent fantasy season with six goals and 20 points in 37 games. He has been hot of late with two goals and five points in his last three tilts. Greene is worthy of a roster spot on your fantasy team in deeper leagues that require at least three defensemen.

Andy Greene had a couple of cuts on his lower lip courtesy of a high stick from Ryan Callahan.

Greene is considering putting on a cage but that remains to be seen. He has four goals and 14 points in 31 games this season so he makes a good 3-4 defenseman in deeper pools.
Sun, Dec 8, 2013 07:52:00 AM

Andy Greene scored the lone goal for New Jersey in a 3-1 loss to Detroit where the Devils mustered just 11 shots on goal.

Greene played nearly 25 minutes and recorded his 14th point in 30 games this season. The Devils could not get anything going after Greene’s first period marker.
